Now being totally honest, I DONT remember exactly on how I managed to find the masterpiece that is the “Reconnecting” series. I started it on Monday this week, loved it, lost it because google sucks, found it again and read like 15 chapters in 3 days.

I DOO need to read the first part that is more focused on Kinger, but I’m not complaining cuz now I have a bunch more chapters to read hehehe

My non-spoiler opinion about tadc finale?

(I'm gonna talk only about my emotional reaction, no spoilers)

I LOVE every single good scene, like, I'm actually insanely in love with the good part of the movie. Every time Jax was on the screen it was so good, I love it so much

I have never had such mixed feelings about a single piece of media. The quality of this movie was jumping all over the place.

The animation is good. The music is good. Some scenes are so cinematic, some scenes made me clap, laugh, cry, yell, I got emotional.

But there were moments when I cringed. There was one moment when I pointed at the screen with both of my hands and asked loudly "What is this? What is this bullshit?". I rolled my eyes three times. There was a scene so cringe that I got second hand embarrassment and looked away bc I just couldn't watch it.

There are too many good stuff to call it a bad EP. I'm disappointed about a few things, but in general, holistically, my experience with this EP was highly positive. I would give it 7/10. If I start thinking more about some scenes and getting mad about them it would drop to 5/10, but I decided to stay focused on the parts I love. There is a long uninterrupted 20mins scene that is 10/10 and I can't wait to rewatch it.

My fanfics obviously won't change. I'm surprised that Reconnecting was actually pretty close with some stuff.

He froze for a good moment under those words. His grip on the pillow slowly loosened up, giving him barely any space to breathe. In an awfully timid moment, he turned his head toward her, his singular eye half-peeking at her from underneath the pillow.

“…How?” he asked, surprisingly earnestly, his gaze diving into her eyes in search of help.

Her frown faded away, her smile slipped from her lips. Her heart jumped in a silly dance with the butterflies in her stomach, before melting, flooding her insides with warmth.

He was so fucking cute.

Her gaze lingered on his single visible eye, as tension from their previous fights slowly let go of her body, fading away. Not for the first time Pomni felt this pinch of temptation, and yet this time these heavy questions rang in her head with awful calmness.

What if she let him know?

What would he say? What would he do?

I was a really soft-hearted little kid who cried a lot and liked to play games about making big families and nurturing things, which, since I was a boy, meant I got the shit kicked out of me a lot by other boys for being girly. Boys were supposed to be tough and fight and compete and try to be the best, you see, that's how our imagination games were supposed to go. And that's what media aimed at boys when I was a kid focused on - heroes who beat the shit out of people and are tough and don't cry et cetera et cetera.

And I learned to like that and see the appeal in that, sure. There are lots of stories that were made for an audience of little boys that I ended up liking. But I always wanted something that told me boys like me, who didn't want to be violent or competitive, who liked nurturing things and making friends, who avoided fights whenever allowed, were valid.

So I was really happy when Steven Universe came around and was exactly that - the kind of show a sensitive little boy like I used to be would have killed to see. And very shortly after that I was crushed when the growing criticism of the show repeated the refrain that it was bad mainly because Steven was a pacifist who cried and didn't want to be violent and liked nurturing things and making friends instead of killing people. I wasn't surprised, no, it made perfect sense people would hate it for being that, but I was crushed all the same.

Our society only accepts a very narrow definition of masculinity, and kindness isn't allowed to play a very big role in it. That's one of the reasons I quit it.

Anyway, I'm a daycare teacher now, and one of the kids in my class is a really sensitive little boy with big feelings and a bigger heart, who acts very nurturing to his little 3-D printed dragons, and gets very upset at how mean and rude the other little boys can be when they're trying to prove they're mature and tough. Recently he's been talking to me about a show he found and has fallen in love with called Steven Universe, and I've been delighted to hear him regale me about how much he loves it. I bet it's doing him some real good to see that it's ok for a little boy like him to have a big heart and to want to make friends instead of fight all the time. He's making up his own crystal gem OC too, isn't that nice?
