hey um I looked for an faq and couldn't find it... why is incest so unhealthy and bad??
Hello anon! I left your question for a time, and I apologize for that. Iâm also going to apologize in advanced for any grammar, spelling errors, or any strange wording. If you need any clarification for anything, please, tell me. I donât have a proper faq, so Iâll just write it out here.
I advocate against incest due to both biological and psychological reasons. In term of biological, itâs a known fact that incest in between a couple able to bear children, it causes birth defects. A Czechoslovakian study was done where a mother had had a child with a relative (I am assuming first-degree, or father/brother/son), and the health of these children was compared to that of another child they had had where the father was not related to them. While 7% of the children that were not a product of incest held some type of birth defect. This compares to the children who were, that held a 42% rate for severe birth defects/early death, while another 11% held some type of mental disability. Another study, using the information from four smaller studies (including the Czech one), showed that birth defects in first degree relatives is, on average, nearly 50%. There is also the fact that humans have a built in ânoâ factor when it comes to incest to the first, and often the second, degree. This exists in many animal species as well, ranging from cockroaches to chimpanzees, so this is not exclusively a human response.
There is also the fact that it is psychologically wrong. In the case of parent/child incest, there is no way to get around the fact that it is a power play. The parent will always have an upper hand on their child, due to the fact that they raised them. A child looks up to their parent, why would they ever want to let them down? In the case of sibling incest, it is both a power play and also just unhealthy for their relationship to hit that point. The older child will have an upper hand on their younger one, as young children are often taught to idolize their older sibling. As for unhealthy, these kids were raised together. Their relationship is unique. They are bonded by years  of living side-by-side, through their unique shared experiences, and the fact that they know each other from childhood, and live together from that time on. When you turn that into a romantic or sexual love, youâre automatically going to be dependent on that relationship. After all, theyâve been there for you for so long, why would they leave you now?
As for GSA, or the phenomenon that occurs when two long lost relatives reunite and triggers strong emotions, which sometimes turns romantic, I wonât say anything to. Itâs hard to find much on it, and I donât want to stick my foot in my mouth.
In summary: Causes birth defects, biological ânoâ factor, power-play in parent/child and sibling relationships, and dependency in sibling relationships.Â
