Maui Journal Number 5.

the road to hana. I had no expectations going into this journey, mainly because this is all for Sammy with OSMD Hawaii. I knew it was a windy road but today we learned that windy is an understatement... This road is f@#$ijbnid crazy.

Haha. Well walking it is basically going to take a few days and even driving this road will use a whole days worth to get to Hana. After starting our walk through the Pahoa looking town, Pa’ia, to the land charaistics of Hamakua, the land started to appear like Papa’ikou/Laupahoehoe. We were walking up a hill when we passed “Twin Falls” where dozens of rental cars filled the sides of the road. Kole Boi started to fall behind when he talked to this Guy at a food stand. Five minutes later here he is walking up with a huge banana stump filled with rice, chicken, kalua pork, lettuce, and jabong, Bless up braddah Pono who was so generous with his portion size, enough to feed one Kanaka. haha.

After finishing the meal we continued to walk. All of a sudden there were double cones in the middle of the road. We started to move the cones more toward the middle to avoid being hit my shoulder driving traffic, then someone has a lightbulb. BING! How about we just walk in the middle of the road. Boom! We continued to walk right down the center lane to later discover that there was road work being done. Quilly got a picture of sammy and kole when squatting on the center line. Boom inspiration. Let me take a picture of you Kyle.I let them walk past the camera, SNAP!. “Brah how come you only take one picture?” screached Quilly. “Sometimes one picture is all you need” said TanimotoFoto. Boom. Without the moto, there is no foto.

Braah 15miles today. Sore.

Maui Journal 3

Day 4. Today was another blessed day. We started our run at 6:15am just Quilly and Me. Went down to Kihei Pier, in front of this Filipino guy drinking coffee on his tail gate, we started doing our prison workouts. Boom shoulder presses, dips, tricep, and the sideward pushups. “One more set ah” spoke Quilly as my muscles started to feel the pain. We finished the interval training and the next part of this story is about to be hilarious..

So here we are running down the Kihei Road feeling the burn from the bench workouts but this time we see people cheering in the distance. Is that for us? We see them start building energy as we get closer and closer. We run though a marathon checkpoint and the people are so energized! “Follow the cones!” shouts a man, we just go with it. There is a group of people handing out waters, leis, and even gave me a hat. it was classic! haha

Tomorrow we begin the walk, Ill have to be on my toes. tonight I prepare. You know what my videos and my friends have in common? I always back them up.

Maui Journal 2

Its the end of day three, a successful day on the water. We woke up bright and early before the sun, put on our shoes and left the house for a morning jog. Kole boi, honey boi, Stay Humble Pray, and Tanimotofoto. You already know tho.

Went paddling with Johnny Mack, Lopaka, and another generous paddler who gave me the opportunity to use his paddle. We paddled out from Kihei Warf into the eastern direction, following the beautiful coastline. We found a break. Where rows of waves rippled along the shore, a couple of paddle boarders stood on the calm sea waiting for their wave. But nope. Here comes a canoe filled with seven hammahs pushing in fast. I grab hold of the ama, other hand on the gopro. The rush takes over and everyone is syncronized, striking their paddles in the water all at unison. Boom. Were on the wave. Gliding smooth, everyone stops paddling and the wave pushes us shorebound. We look to the left. A beautiful line of water reflects in the late-morning light. I point the camera back to see everyone showing their expressions. It was a good day. Day 3.

Maui Journal 1

Its actually the end of day two and Im preparing to go to bed. Uncle Kepa is generous enough to open his doors and allow five of us to stay with his family. So far Maui has been very welcoming. Everywhere we go, Sammy and Kyle meet people and rap out their stories. Quilly is full with energy makes all of us smile and laugh at his unpredictability. Sammy is full of stories and he knows whats right and whats wrong. Kole Boy is the change, good heart. Braddah man can sleep tho haha. Auntie Georgie is the mom of the group, we cannot do anything without her.. I mean, moms do things that make life a whole lot better without anyone even knowing.. Myself, im just learning how to live. With myself and other people. These individuals are my new family. I got their back, they got mines. THats how it is, thats how its gonna be. Boom.

Awesome People Part !

It is 2016 and the world population is soaring well over 7 billion people. Out of that many people, there has so be some awesome people in this world! Well, first we know you’re reading this so you can mark yourself off as one.

But besides the writer and reader of this blog post, there has ought to be a few more awesome people living with us. Well I met one today. He was a skinny fellow, darker Filipino attributes, with a green glass in his hand as I met him. We spoke about where he grew up until he smoothly moved the conversation to a topic in which I was open and learning.

“You can always help out a person, but it’s up to them if they want to help you back or not.” stumbled his words onto my brain, yet it related to my experience very well, I was listening. Simple but true! You can always help someone out, and can’t be mad if they choose to help you back or not, because in the beginning you did the right thing.

With technology and the lifestyle change of our children and society, many traditional and old school ways are being forgotten. Elmer was his name, cruising with Tristan, told me that he grew up in the “Camps” “Every week you could hear the sound of the pig dying” He goes on to mimic the sound of the pig squeal. “Kids now days”, he said are not the same. “Once we go, the next generation is gonna have to figure things out for themselves.” He is an man that brought me to the realization of the pace of change. The change in the years of recent past, of how people were whipping people not to long ago. Just in the 1750′s farmers who rode horseback, Luna, made it sure that workers were not allowed to speak or rest unless during rest period. Using whips, these people would crack the leather on the backs of the workers. Fast forward 250 years and people get offended if you make the slightest of look at them. Times are definitely changing, and as we progress into the future I just hope. I just hope we remain hold of some of our traditions.

Late nights

Looking back at it, i was always the last to leave any party or event. Making sure everything was cleaned and put away before everyone else dug out to go home early. I was the guy tho stayed to turn off the lights.

Tonight I stayed talking after rolling at Nu Era Jiu Jitsu. Trying to grab interviews for the new commercial Im making, i noticed Souza our instructor mopping the brand new blue colored matt. Why is our coach mopping the floor? Shouldn’t it be one of the younger athletes?

Well maybe I’ll volunteer next time. It’s called team. It’s called character. It’s called family. 1-11-2016

BLog post number something...

Its been a while since I put some words here in this blog. I’ve been focusing on the 50k ultramarathon for the past week or so. Drinking water, strict dieting, and exercising everyday; it all paid off!

My body was healthy and strong enough to complete the Hilo to Volcano 50k (31mile) marathon. Well the day after and my knees and soles of my feet are feeling it. But over all, the love and support people tend to give is quite extraordinary. People, friends, and family has commented liked and showed their excitement and I have to find a way to thank them.

Anyways, this next part I shall write as the day before the race...

Well damn, the race begins tomorrow at 6am. I will run with Kyle Quilly and Jay Maeda. I feel nervous, yet prepared. Ive been eating good all week, drinking water all week. Running every day. I know I am ready. I am.

What an amazing time to be alive...

I thought I’d check in before the year ends and share this years experience from an Asian-Hawaiian perspective. It’s amazing, technology is more advanced than ever before. We got helicopter drones people use for recreation, touch screen computer devices that are used for everything except calling, and don’t forget the new hoverboard segway that the modern human is riding. I’ve gotten the opportunity to travel to California. I visited many friends, great intellectuals, and professional life savers such as doctors, nurses, police, and fire fighters. I met the modern western man, whom is very intellectual about programming and business with little regards to health. I met the healers, those who devote their life to serving the sick. I met the sick, not impaired on the outside but very hurt on the inside. Trapped in a mental game I tried to save him but its a tough one. I met the family man, very philosophical in his teachings and a understanding guide to the lost. I met the struggling man. Lifes circumstances don’t flow in his favor, a father of four living out of his pick-up truck. I’ve met the farmer, successful in his search for something worth living for. A master of the IMO and the healthy food.

Man this year has gone by fast. And i dont want to miss the next year so I’m going to have to move just as fast. I have acquired much knowledge, and great wisdom. How I will use it, I will benefit those who seek it as I do too.
