Grayson somehow found himself surrounded by people of no substance. Feeling lonely in the middle of people that knew him, but couldn’t quite figure him out. His fame the greatest mystery they had seen. That’s how he had found himself outside of the party, smoke in hand, gazing at the eternal sky in front of him. Bored and tired, ready to escape the world he found himself in. “A carnival and the lot of them are the clowns.”
❝ hm . . . i've never really liked clowns , ❞ she politely offered the confession in response , looking away from the mixed drink she’d been mindlessly stirring at for . . . well , you could probably guess how long with how exceedingly watered down it was looking . she'd been trying to make herself look busy there , but she’d only managed to look bored and checked out ( a look she found mirrored in grayson as she got a better look at him ) . if she'd been amidst her closest industry friends she was certain she might’ve looked at least a bit more engaged , but tonight was about work . parties and schmoozing some hot new director ? it wasn’t anything new ; there were just so many other taxing parts of her job that she’d have preferred doing to this . unfortunately , though not unexpectedly , her manager was insistent ! she was plenty familiar with grayson levi too . she’d gotten to know him while he and delilah had been dating , but since then she’d kept her distance . ❝ guess i shouldn’t be too surprised to see you here . ❞

THE UNIVERSE MUST be broken, glitching or something ? for the first time since he’d learnt how to form sounds with his mouth, xavian had nothing to say. no snarky comment, no ego stroking, nothing. his eyes just continued to scan over the message on his phone screen. the phrase ‘final warning’ swirling around his mind. maybe he should sort his act out and stop pissing his band off ? but he hadn’t done anything to piss them off! they were just mad that despite being hidden behind a drum kit for all the concerts and music videos, the fans still thought he was the fit one. it was obvious! jealousy at it’s finest. “ hey, i’ve missed place my lighter. you got one ? “
sienna had made a habit out of this . she’d even gotten good at it — slipping away without being seen , escaping anywhere she could at least manage to hear herself think ( tonight it was the beautiful deck out back that overlooked the city ) . it was so much more bearable clinging to the fresh breeze and minimal amount of swaying bodies outside the party . she'd always just ended up feeling overwhelmed at these sorts of parties , and though she would have liked to have called it a night and headed home early , she promised her publicist she’d at least be present for another ten minutes of it before turning her carriage back into a pumpkin . ❝ hm ? ❞ his voice pulls her from the time she’s eyeing on her phone and it takes a moment for what he’s asked to even register with her . ❝ oh ! no , i don’t . . . sorry . not that this dress left any room for one , ❞ she mused ( more to herself than anything ) .

BREATHING IN THE scent of her favourite coffee shop, delilah smiled. while it had been good for her mental state to go back to her grandparents’ for a little bit, it did feel good to be home. coffee cup in hand, her eyes picked up on a familiar face nearby. unable to contain her smile, delilah slowly strolled towards them making sure to subtly flick her newly bleached hair out of her face. “ hello stranger ! ”
sienna’s fingers curled around her cup of english breakfast , watching as steam rolled off the top in a whimsical haze of swirls . she hadn’t been waiting there long , but it felt easier to preoccupy herself with her drink than catch any of the curious eyes on her anytime she looked over at the door in hopes of seeing her favorite gal . perking up at the voice , si’s mouth dropped as soon as she’d looked up and her eyes had landed on delilah , ❝ you didn’t ! you went blonde ?? ❞

His mind had wandered back to the memories of his childhood in Seattle. His father was fairly well known, but he was always traveling, so Jace never really knew better. For him, life was just about his mom and his grandparents. Even when he had started auditioning for small roles, his strongest memories were not of cameras flashing and thunderous voices but of afternoons in his grandfather’s basement, jazz records playing in the background while they played cards or sorted change into the many jars his grandpa collected over the years. Sienna’s voice suddenly replaced that of the scratchy vinyl, and Jace blinked in realization of where he was. “Hmm? Yeah, I mean, sure I do. He was pretty great,” he told her. The boy had made a point to present himself as someone who didn’t reflect on the past or what people thought, so he was careful about going into any details. The blonde appeared genuine enough, but he knew firsthand how that could be an act.
there’s a silence that’s decided to settle between them after that , and the blonde struggles with what to make of it . it’s not uncomfortable . . . it’s not warm or familiar , but it feels different , and it’s the first time ( in a long time ) that she suspects that maybe . . . maybe there is something more to jace . maybe there’s parts of him worth getting to know ? after all , she’d always wanted to believe that about him ( even in the moments he’d led her to believe otherwise ) . ❝ i um — i should probably go . ❞

“ well , he’d be happy to hear you say that , ‘cause he told me basically the same thing . ” with a grin , he took another sip , a sort of quiet , contented warmth settling in his chest . although he’d barely been living in his apartment for a week — not even long enough for it to be fully organized — it felt like home in that moment . “ ooh , ok , ” caleb agreed , placing his glass to the side before he leaned forward to serve as her taste-tester . automatically , his eyes closed in bliss , a dreamy smile adorning his features as he savored the perfectly balanced flavor of a creamy , bright vodka sauce . “ mm , ” he hummed in approval . “ wow , that’s awesome . you should try some , too ! ” as if to emphasize his point , he opened his warm , expressive eyes wide , before clapping his hands together in excitement . “ wait , one second , i know exactly what — ” in lieu of finishing his sentence , he leaned over to the central island and hastily chose a piece of the baguette he’d sliced up earlier . carefully , he dipped it into the pan , then offered it to her in the same fashion , one of his hands serving as the insurance policy for his new tile flooring . “ d’you think it’s ready to go on top of our pasta ? ” still smiling , he nodded over to the waiting bowls on the island .
sienna made a quick mental note to give henry & merritt a call tomorrow to thank them . caleb and his family , after all , had become such a special and vital part of her life over the years that it wasn’t at all odd for the actress to check in on his grandparents whenever she got the opportunity to . ❝ what are you . . . — ❞ her words trailed off , eyes following the path of his hands and amusement painting her features once she’d realized what it was he had her waiting for . pushing some strands of hair behind her ear and smiling , she leaned up a little on her toes to take a better bite , bright gaze holding his own for just a moment before settling back on her heels with a dreamy sigh . ❝ mm . . . good call on that baguette . . we’re definitely pasta ready , ❞ she insisted , still relishing in the flavors as she wiped at the corner of her mouth for any lingering traces of sauce and washed it all down with another sip from her wine glass . ❝ think we should quit our other careers and just start a cooking show already ? maybe netflix would be interested , ❞ she jested , setting her glass down once more so that she could finish up and serve them before her stomach further attempted to have conversation with her .

Jace watched Sienna carefully, that partial grin remaining in place. She kept up with him, sending biting comments and witty lines his way. He kind of liked it. As an impatient, rather grouchy person, the boy was choosy about who he opened up to, and even then, he tended to ruin those relationships. “Funny,” he remarked, the smile growing a bit. “It really is weird. I mean, sure, we’ve been doing this for a long time, but that doesn’t make it any better. My grandpa was really good at keeping things normal for me…” He trailed off, the mention of his grandfather coming as a surprise to him, but he smiled at the memories, his eyes sort of glazing over as he stared past Sienna.
he was lucky , sienna thought ( so often feeling like a moving part in her own life ) . yes , she was fortunate now to have people who made her feel otherwise , but growing up ?? growing up she hadn’t ever been surrounded by anything or anyone ‘ n o r m a l ’ . at least , not until the solomons had entered her life . her parents , of course , had always done their best , but given their high profile careers life just . . . wasn’t — not that the blonde had realized that the camera flashes and the way her mom had shielded her from them the first few years of her life was anything but . after all , she was so young . how could she know ? it would be at least another couple more years before she’d come to understand that the people that liked to gather outside of their home and crowd their car — shouting in chaotic unison for pictures — weren’t mommy and daddy’s friends . ❝ i bet that was nice . you must miss him , ❞ she’s treading carefully , not just because its jace , but because she’d been haunted by the same glazed over look for years anytime she thought of her own loss . at least he’s still smiling .
