elp came back at the bosj finals and his backstage comments were like 'hey so i was away from njpw for 3 months because i was trying to find out why the hell i was so depressed and crashing out and it turns out i never emotionally dealt with my medical trauma from having cancer and needing to get a part of my body removed. i tried to go right back to my life without acknowledging that something monumental and scary happened to me when i probably needed to work that shit out. so that's what i was doing' and. i appreciate him so much man.

farrrrrrrr too many male wrestlers think vulnerability is only about powering thru physical pain or admitting you love your family or being mad when you lose a match or whatever. this kind of emotional and mental vulnerability is not that common to see in wrestling characters and i love the way he works both kayfabe and his irl, non-kayfabe events into the el phantasmo character in a way that makes sense and is really believable
