Princes, I've heard rumors that alliances might take a more,, romantic turn, and while that would indeed be fortuitous, what would that mean for the court of Artisia?

Roman sighs dreamily: "Well if that were to be the case and one of us, or both, were to find love amongst the festivities than that would be just wonderful! But of course that would have to be arranged and things would have to be negotiated just as one might negotiate land. After all, we want our kingdom to remain as it is. If one of us were to find love, there would have to be concessions that the kingdoms merge- And of course that would mean choosing which land was which and that indeed is a tough choice to make. After all, Artisia was father's dream. To have it simply fall into the hands of another kingdom would devastate the people who pledged their loyalty to us and our House.I would love to find a partner so dearly, but if we BOTH found love? That would split Artisia apart. Indeed it would have to be a lengthy discussion between us twins before anything were to proceed."

Remus: "Good thing I am not looking for love. We have other such things to think about." Remus very clearly is all talk in this matter, however. The way he looks off to the side with a soft discomfort leads you, the council members, to think that perhaps he has resigned his fate to rule Artisia if Roman runs off with some prince or king or other lord. "It is what father would have wanted- for at least one of us to stay if the other finds their love among another kingdom's court. Not only that, but a marriage alliance would vastly improve our resources because of the magnitude of the offer."

You wonder if the scruffier of the two brothers has thought about if the situations were reversed. You get the feeling Remus would rather perish than allow Roman to live the life of loneliness. And considering none of the Lords have eligible offspring from what you've gathered, and neither do thew twins, it would have to be marriage between at least one of them, for that to benefit anyone.

Remus, Roman, was there any question that only one of you would take the throne? Or was it always a pregone decision that both of you rule together?

Roman says with a firmness that it is clear he has used before on this topic: "There was never any question that we would take the throne together. It is a belief among our people, and also our father, that twins are born as two halves of the same coin. There was never any doubt that we would not rule side by side as equal kings. There are doubters but they are not important."

Remus gives a sideways glance and remains quiet for a moment, then speaks softly so Roman does not hear: "While I know that is our father's belief and also our belief, I know there are people who would not think that. Some in our own kingdom question it. We never were told which of us came out first- that was so no one could try and insist one had rights over the other. But... some of the Lords have expressed in letters to our father that they do not like the idea- that one of us could be more useful for other things like building alliances. I refuse to let that happen. We are a team and we won't be pressured into abandoning that role. Tonight is also about finding out if they will accept and agree to the dual kingship."

King Logan, you said that the princes' father dismissed the other lords. How so?

Logan adjusts his glasses as he gazes around the room. The kingdom is small and the castle is modest but he knows they are worthy of note. The Artisians are not to be taken lightly.

Logan in a low tone: "King Romulus was a good man- a good leader. He managed to do things that were, as my research has shown, above and beyond normal human capabilities. How he managed these feats is beyond us but there are rumours that he used magic and made deals with creatures in the forest to be allowed the safety of it's border."

Logan waves a hand and crosses his arms: "And as you might guess, not every Lord is for the idea of magic. Two in particular, King Patton and King Virgil, are very much against magics, or at least so the rumours say. I am sure that it is true on Patton's end but Virgil, liker all Giants, are hard to read. Regardless, Romulus deliberately did not listen to their warnings. He was an older man and made stubborn choices. He was for his people but dismissive of other Lords. This is why it is vital we learn tonight how the twins react, how they treat others. To what end is their desire for alliance? War? Protection? Mutual respect? What are they willing to provide us Lords in return for our allegiance?"

What was that about a magic forest?

Remus: "Ah you've seen it! The Dark Forest that stretches thick and dark and goes on and on until the base of the mountains. It's full of absolutely treacherous creatures and horrible beasts behind our castle walls. Things like faeries and winged cats, dragons and orcs and orcs and giant antlered hares. There are manticores and chimeras in there too. Lots of wield untamable beasts! Father defeated several monsters in that forest and so have we. Nobody goes into forests like that. Only one of the other Lords is probably capable of it because he lives directly in wildmagic lands, but that lord probably won't be intimidated."

Roman: "There are always rumours that forests like that all full of magic are dark and terrible and will corrupt people who mingle or mess with it, but we have been very lucky to reside by it. It creates protection for us."

Remus: "And don't worry, we have detection systems to warn us if anything comes from the forest. Scouts on the wall tell us what's coming and the walls are heavily reinforced. That's part of why we are low on funds as it were." Remus winks. "But it's worth it."

That makes sense- but then what is it they want?

Remus: "You may have to ask them that question when they all get here. Otherwise you will have to wait. They tend to keep their plans close to their chests from other lords, but you are all council members and advisers... there's no reason why they would not confide in you unless there is something nefarious going on I'd wager."

Why are all these fancy kings coming to the coronation of a tiny new kingdom when they could take it over? What's the deal with that?

Roman chats lightly with some of the peasants, happily discussing their new baby when he hears the question.

Roman: "Oh that's easy. They want something from us. We sent out invites but there's no guarantee they will come- but this many coming? It means they want something from us which is also a good indicator that they are wary of us. Kingdoms don't usually pop up out of nowhere without significant reason."

Roman: "We are smack dab in the center of a trade route, we have uniquely fertile land, we have access to a magic forest we suddenly and mysteriously were able to claim, and we're small so what's the point in potentially losing soldiers to unknown magic when it would be more beneficial for one of us to marry into an alliance?

roman: "There's a lot of negotiating that is going to be happening tonight. Remus and I don't plan on getting married to any of them (though it's not off the table). But allying ourselves is necessary if we want to expand and gain better resources and trade routes. Everyone wants to get the best deal out of it."

ok ok so artisa??? is a new kingdom and stuff but how is it defensive? whats it like?

Remus leans over to fetch himself a glass of wine and he points to a tapestry above him that depicts the history of Artisia, no matter how small it is.

Remus: "Artisia is a Kingdom that is surrounded on most sides by a VAST and magic filled forest. As you probably know, wildmagics like that are hard to tame. For our late father Romulus to plunk his keep down in the spot he did, surrounded mostly by terrifying unknown forests full of magic creatures and a road leading past a river to an open expanse for miles was a genius move."

You can see the tapestry shows Romulus fighting off some terrible beasts and protecting the fields of the people.

Remus: "Romulus didn't intend to be a king- the people made him King because the land here is extremely fertile for growing and he stopped the magic beasts from invading their fields. Also we have plenty of space to expand outwards in the opposite direction of the forest. So we only have to defend from one direction. We might be small but we're clever and that's important.

1st Day of Spring Circle XXXX. Coronation Ceremony To Begin at Sundown.

The Party has begun and guests are starting to arrive, peasant and lord alike.

ANNOUNCING:

King Logan of House Raven, Elven King of the desert lands of Lo’Gella!

Of course he arrives first, his people and himself all adorned in thick robes to ward off the cold he is unused to dealing with. Punctual as the rumours claim, even though his distance was the farthest to travel, he and the entourage he takes with him, a group of 50 or so soldiers all bearing gifts, are adorned in gems to the point of confusing the peasants of Artisia. Logan looks intimidating and far too serious.

But, while the rumours of the desert being chock full of minerals and precious gems is true, and the King is not wearing such gems in favour of showing off opulence- for his people such gems are common enough to bring a full chest of them as a gift to the princes who fight every ounce of their beings not to ogle the beauty. Their wealth will surely increase tonight and that is good news for the twins who, as a small Kingdom, need the wealth to ensure safety to their people and further protect them.

As you may have guessed, this coronation is not just to announce the new kings, it is for much much more.

Lo’Gella is an old Kingdom, one of the oldest even by the standards of the other kingdoms. The gems he brings are formality- the true test of his intentions lie on his person and he will not reveal it unless he is to have a one on one with one or both of the princes.

Roman and Remus meet him upon entering the Great Hall.

Roman: “Greetings King Logan, it is an honour that you would attend our coronation.”

Logan: “Greetings Prince Remus and Prince Roman. We bring gifts to honour your House and your Kingdom. Do not fret the amount of men I have brought. Most will remain outside. However, your lands are new and cold and full of wandering mercenaries who would seek to ambush those traveling on the road. Fortune favours the prepared and we have paid off many that were lurking.”

Roman and Remus look at him with wide eyes and then to each other and back.

Roman: “Gracious King, please forgive us, we had not been made aware of the mercenaries. We will see to it at once that there are guards stationed farther up the road.”

Logan holds up a hand and shakes his head, gold earrings jingling. “There is no need for that. Your land is in a defensible position. Clever of your father to choose it. Not so clever of him to dismiss the other Lords. You are young and you are in need of guidance, but you show a cleverer instinct. I would be glad to discuss many things with you this evening.”

Remus takes his offered hand: “Thank you. For now please enjoy the drinks and food. We may be small but we pride ourselves on our food.”

Logan: “I shall greatly desire to try some.”

There is an eagerness in his eyes as he says this, a thirst for discovery and knowledge.

Oh my! A party? How exciting! :D Consider this my rsvp to the occasion with a resounding Yes! Who else can we expect to see during the festivities?

Roman: "Many Kings of the surrounding lands have been invited and have announced their attendance! Some attendances are appreciated and some are not."

Remus: "But as a small and new and centrally located kingdom, we need to form alliances!"

The guests are as follows:

King Patton of House Ram, Dwarven King of Morolak and the wild peoples of the plains. It is rumored he will be in tow with a fully armed cavalry of horses.

King Logan of House Raven, Elven King of Lo'Gella and the sophisticated scholars of the sands. It is rumoured be brings an archive with him.

King Janus of House Serpent, Elven King of Deceija and the seafaring tradesfolk of the coast. Most people are wary of this King's attendance for his reputation as a smooth-talking swindler.

King Virgil of House Moose, King of the Giants of Anavekti, reclusive King of the mysterious peoples of the Frozen Mountains. It is a surprise he is attending at all.

Witch King Draconus, Dragon Witch King of the Wild Woods and caustic leader of the wild magic lands. Also a shock that the Wild Magic King is attending.

Happy birthday Your Highnesses! What would make this the perfect day in your opinion?

Roman: "Thank you. We are grateful for the amount of people in attendance! Genuinely it is quite exciting but both Remus and I are rather nervous. Our Kingdom is not even but a hundred years old- Artisia was founded with our late father who started the House of Unicorn, our Crest, so it is difficult not to be worried about what the people will think. I cannot ask for more than what has already been given!"

Remus: "Speak for yourself, dearest brother, I think this is to be an astounding night of revelry! However if I were to ask for anything more, I would say a joust would have been more enjoyable to watch than dancing. But that would require significantly disposable knights which we just don't have."
