IT'S SOMEONE YOU WILL MEET. independent toph from the avatar : the last airbender series (2005). loose canon-compliant post-war. established in march 2024, 18+, beta editor user. written by bella, 25. please read the rules below before interacting.

TO BEGIN,

She initially appeared as a vision by Aang in "The Swamp". She had no lines, but giggled and laughed as Aang tried to pursue her.

RULES,

01. as stated above, this is a roleplaying blog for toph from the the original animated series. i would prefer writing toph sometime after the hundred year war has ended, and would be quite selective when it comes to her continuing storyline in the legend of korra.*

02. i am in the process of re-watching the animated series and will pick up the comics one day just so i'm more of what has happened there, but i will be upfront : a lot of the event after the finale of the original series are something i'm 50/50 with, though that's more due to preference than any proper criticism.

to add, for the most part, i wouldn't mind going along with what's established, but i am a writer who prefers world-building the environment further with my partners, a.k.a. making our own canon.

03. just as disclaimer, i don't hate the netflix adaptation of the series. i understand a lot of the criticism surrounding the show, but i personally find it charming and entertaining as a standalone. i'm a simple gal ✌ so if you have strong [negative] opinion on the adaptation, i may not be the best writer to engage with you.

04. pls don't ever involve me in any drama. i'm a firm believer we're all responsible writers so take care of what's comfortable for you and i'll take care of what's mine. with that said, toph will primarily written as underage. a teen, most likely, if not mid twenties. even so, there will absolutely be no sexual content written on this blog.

05. shipping is chemistry based + development, nothing with anyone with 5+ age difference though simply because i'm not comfortable with it. this blog is also duplicates-friendly and i'm looking to build toph more so she may be adaptable to crossovers!

* i'm not going to lie to you, i'm only selective / hesitant because i watch legend of korra for tahno, i even rp'd him for a while, and when he's gone i was disinterested in everything 💀 rip me

it's not her fault. he knows it's not her fault , but that does little to stem the bubbling anger. exhaustion has weakened control just enough that any attempt to vent the steam results in a full blown explosion.

the avatar isn't supposed to lose his cool. an air nomad isn't supposed to lose his cool.  yet here he is , lashing out at a friend for things out of both their control. and he can't find the strength to stop it.         ❝ what about what i need ? does that even matter ?!? ❞

and that's fine, isn't it ? if anyone should know anything about anger, shouldn't it be her ? not that, in truth, toph had lost her cool when she was earthbending. no, in a battle, on a mission, during a crisis, toph is centred. grounded. like the earth itself, she's unshakeable and undeterred. nothing could possibly move her without her voluntarily allowing it. this isn't exactly a battle, no, but she could tell well enough that it's also serious.

and so, in the wake of him exploding, she plants her feet further into the earth – unyielding. if aang was a hurricane, let her be the mountain that does not waver. she could be that for him. toph isn't scared.

❝ shut up ! ❞ she tells him instead, moving the earth to wrap around him — which she suspects he will dodge anyhow. not that capturing avatar is the goal exactly, but if the move slows him enough in his tantrum, then that's enough. she yells right back : ❝ and stop whining ! if all you've ever wanted was someone to hear you out, you could've just said, twinkletoes ! ❞

❝ must be nice — ❞ she'd hopped along when sokka had visited her school and offered her a quick trip to the fire nation which, you know, is nice of him. it's also—it still sucks maybe, a little, that the reason he's visiting the fire nation at all, delivering diplomatic messages aside, was because he'd wanted to see suki.

which toph is definitely not sulking over. nope. though she reclines as much as she could on the zaisu, and turns her head away even though she couldn't physically see the reunion happening by the entrance. ❝ — to be loved. ❞

she doesn't want to do it — really. even the idea is embarrassing but ... minus the hundred years of trapped in iceberg or whatnot, aang and her are literally the same age. so she couldn't understand why he's so- so- so ahead of her in this, while she's staggering behind.

she's supposed to be the sifu between them, isn't she ?

petulant, the teenager crosses her arms. ❝ so how'd you do it ? ❞ her mouth twists, even hating that she has to voice it out. but toph isn't anything but determined, and so she mentally affirms herself, elaborates: ❝ how does... everyone like you ? and i mean, in the sense that they totally wanna smack lips with you ? ❞

❝ look, he just doesn't feel the same way, whatever. ❞ it most certainly is not 'whatever', but she's prideful, and toph thinks she'd rather have her chance fighting some space lion than deal with the absolute embarrassment of ever harbouring a crush.

shit, did she even mention the guy already has a girlfriend ? who falls for someone who's not available at all ? ugh. ❝ don't give me that look. ❞

the rock rock she slams the wall shatters into pieces and for a moment, toph revels in the chaos, the power of what she could do, at least, until she grunts for another reason altogether, buckle over, and presses her palms to her stomach.

the earthbender goes ahead and stick her pinky finger up into one of her teeth, scraping against a piece of nut she's sure is stuck there around the back. people talk so much about growing pains, but geesh, no one would care to mention how needy your dental health could be. toph's trying to tough through the incessant pain throbbing every few hours across her lower jaw though, because the last time she'd indiscriminately dropped a vague concern about possibly getting it treated towards sokka, the guy's description of a dental practitioner had her feel like she'd sooner bury any teeth practitioner straight into the ground than let them anywhere near her mouth.

listen, it's—scary, okay ? it's one thing if it's just a healer and you've got a wound and they're treating you with purified water and stuff, fine. but to be strapped down and lay dormant when she can't even truly anticipate what they'll do ? may spirits have mercy on them because toph wasn't sure if she could.

anyways. not the topic they're focusing on right now.

the little princess is turning to her, most likely glaring — not that toph could actually confirm it; she's going by pure instinct and fuck-all expectation over here — while she's made to wait on an answer, and toph tries not to smirk at that. finally, nut-free, the younger earthbender flicks the piece away, addressing the situation at hand. ❝ you really want to help him, huh ? ❞ toph asks, her posture's still too relaxed; lounging on the half-reclined chair she'd requested zuko to make for her. ❝ firelord hotman. could see it through the floor. you really don't want him to mess it up. ❞
