tl;dr, diffuse edit for the color, normal map edit for the depth, and mask + shader key edit for the metallic and glow look.
This might get really confusing and convoluted!! I'm by no means a pro modder but i like making stuff, and i can try to offer some support where you have questions!
so i based her crystals and markings loosely off of hydaleyn's boss textures-- i found her model in textools and then did some hack image stitching to overlay the placements on the bibo textures in CSP and trace over them. i hit my first roadblock when it came to navigating skin seams due to how xiv bodies function, with the torso, arms, legs, hands, and feet being separated on the image.
this is when i threw a hail mary that ended up being clutch-- the Ucupaint plugin for blender-- this lets you do texture painting on models WITH layers directly in blender. when i put in the body model in blender, i could just paint where i wanted all the textures without having to account for the space in between the areas on the image.
once i had the placements where i liked, i did a second pass of the textures in blender to clean them up, and then i exported the clean crystal veins as a transparent image. from there, i overlayed the veins i drew onto the bibo textures in CSP, and then i colored them Hydaelyn Blue with some color variation in there for depth. boom, diffuse done!
but then there's the more complicated parts, and the necessary parts, which i ended up having to download ph*toshop for. there are ways to avoid using the program if you can't get the access to it, but i am not very familiar with those methods :( photopea is the most common free replacement, but i've found it finicky.
so, for the crystals to look like they have depth + not be affected by her skin color, i had to edit the normal map. to get the depth, i used this website to convert a grayscale image of the veins into a normal map to put over the existing one for the body. the way it works is that it equates darkness to depth, so the darker an area is on the image, the deeper the map will make that part. i made the veins + body image gray, made the veins darker than the skin, saved the gray veins, and put it in the converter. then i saved the veins map and got the body's normal map in photoshop, edited them together, boom! depth!
AND! to prevent the crystals from being affected by her skin tone, i made them black on the blue channel of the normal map. for non hrothgar skin, the blue channel affects skin color influence. black = no skin color, and white = changes fully with skin color!
for the mask, i followed this tutorial. there's not much i can say beyond that, same putting in the veins png and working off of that!
it might take a lot of fiddling, but i think its worth it!! i believe in you!!
