These crabs from the family Podotremata are from the deep sea, off the Eastern coast of Africa. Very little information exists about their size and habits, but they’re known to live near Mozambique and Tanzania.

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) had been a popular man-made chemical compound in industrial and commercial products up until it became internationally accepted as toxic back in 1979. Decades later high concentrations of PCBs are being found in the carnivores of the ocean.Â
I made pretty relevant graphic of this a year ago. For those who need a refresher on biomagnification.

Introducing: Calappa calappa or better known as the shame-faced crab. I made this one as part of the awesome Crab-zine hosted by tumblr user @laughingbear. If you want to know more about it, just look at this link.
I decided I post the complete illustration after the release date of the zine, so have a plain-coloured crab for now. On Facebook I’ll post a detailed version, without the information (just for fun and to sort of promote my Facebook).
See you all later, -Werner
Sea Moths (family Pegasidae)
Also called Dragonfishes. They have modified pelvic fins that allow them to “walk” across the sea bottom where they live. To feed they form a tube with their mouth and suck up worms and other small invertebrates from the sediment. (Image of a Short Dragonfish, Eurypegasus draconis, by John E. Randall via FishBase) Learn more about this species on EOL: http://eol.org/pages/203956
