fuck it. be creative even if you never really *make* anything. write out plot synopses of stories and then move on. design OCs you'll never use. make mood boards and concept art and don't do anything with them. life's too short to forget everything that inspired you and creation doesn't have to be "complete" to be worth the time you put into it.

You died on a Sunday.

In the earliest hours of the morning.

In a hospital room with pale yellow walls and ocean themed stickers haphazardly plastered in every corner.

My whole life I've always believed that impact is more important than intent. I believed this because what we *do* has more consequences than what we *want* to do.

Knowing Bernie has shifted my perspective on this.

I very much believe that, as human beings, what we can give is a result of what we are given. This is especially true of hope, resilience and love.

Those of you who know her story, know that growing up, Bernie wasn't given much. Despite that, her *intent* to give good things to her loved ones was relentless.

In her moments of clarity, all she wanted was to do better. To be better. A better mum, and a better nan.

I spoke to her at length a month before she died, and all she spoke of was how much she prayed for her daughter Coby to be surrounded by people that loved and took care of her. And how much she wanted to be one of those people.

It truly breaks my heart she didn't get there.

But knowing Bernie has helped me understand that intent, not just impact, is also a measure of a person's heart.

I know you're at peace now, love. The demons you fought your whole life can't hurt you anymore. It was my honour to see your heart and I'll hold space for the future you so desperately wanted.
