Bonus: Jurian: "She (Elain) shouldn't be any of yours, either, considering she's probably been fucked by half the Illyrian army by now." Lucien: quiet It was Tamlin's snarl that rattled the glasses.

Nesta: "Maybe you'll become interesting at last, Elain." Azriel: shadows gathered in the corners of the room, like snakes preparing to strike.

Just in case you were wondering, when Nesta observed this moment between Elain and Azriel she was referring to them eye fucking each other. Yes…eye fucking. I’m sorry to every one who wanted to ignore this moment.

Nesta met the shadowsinger’s stare and he gave her a nod. Then his gaze shifted to Elain, and though it was utterly neutral, something charged went through it. Between them. Elain’s breath caught slightly, and she gave him a shallow nod of greeting before brushing past, leading Nesta into the room.

In The Snow Queen, it is Gerda, kind-hearted, brave, and unwavering, who journeys north to save Kai.

Not with weapons.

Not with force.

But with love that refuses to be forgotten.

It’s hard not to see Elain and Azriel in them.

Elain, the light who would walk through ice and snow to bring him back.

Vallahan lies in the cold, distant north. And there’s foreshadowing, so much of it, telling us we may end up there soon.

Maybe that’s where their story will finally bloom.

Because in this fairytale, Elain gets to be the one who saves him.

And Azriel is just waiting for someone who sees him clearly… and still accepts him for who he is not what he is.

I’ve been wanting to commission my sweetest friend @luxury_banshee for the ultimate Elriel aesthetic: light and dark. As we know Feyre imagines them as this when Azriel lets Elain borrow truth teller, and it’s such a beautiful and breathtaking visual she gives, I couldn’t wait to see what @luxury_banshee would come up with! The light and dark has always been a personal fave and it makes it even sweeter that it belongs to Elriel in the books! Another strong emphasis I wanted was the forbidden nature of their relationship—both of them are being held back by something that is stopping them from being with each other—who they truly want.

I’m back with more Elriel, (because there can never be enough of them!) this time by the wonderful and sweet @isis_villalobos_art! Such a joy and absolute pleasure to work with, and create such a beautiful and amazing piece! Here we have Elain and Azriel spending quality time together, which we know is their love language. One thing I love about them is how obvious their attraction and pull towards each other is, despite the circumstances that are trying to keep them apart. They found a sweet spot by a waterfall to take everything in and let the world around them stop so they can just be with each other. I hope yall love this one as much as I do!

I think somebody ordered another Elriel! I think we did! Here, we have this stunning art by the lovely @zolyna_ who was a pleasure to work with! Azriel here is begging on his knees (something we KNOW he wants to do) for Elain. She even made him a cute lil flower crown in their private and intimate moment! I also wanted to emphasize how Elain makes Azriel’s shadows go away—showing how comfortable and at ease he is in her and her only presence! @zolyna_ did such a gorgeous job with my idea, I can’t thank her enough! In honor of @elainarcheronweek, and thanks to encouragement from @santkazoya (months ago, whoops💀), I’ve compiled my favorite predictions and theories for Elain’s story (some of which build upon connections others have made, especially @offtorivendell and @silverlinedeyes since we often theorize together). 🌸Elriel as the Welsh myth of Blodeuwedd and Gronw 🦇

The Welsh goddess Blodeuwedd was created from flowers by the magician Gwydion to be a mate to Lleu. However, because she fell in love with a warrior hunter named Gronw, Gwydion cursed her and transformed her into an owl. Having been literally created by man for a man in an image chosen by man, initially she was dutiful and faithful. But ultimately she makes choices based on her heart and takes control of her own destiny.

It’s no wonder Sarah saved an image of Blodeuwedd and labeled it ‘Elain’ when she had a Pinterest board. The parallels between where Elain’s story stands and the myth are impossible to ignore.

For this piece I wanted to represent what it may have looked like when Blodeuwedd met the handsome hunter for the first time, when she found someone she was willing to change her destiny for. I believe this is where Elain and Azriel’s story is headed: a forced mating bond being trumped by true love.

I was so excited for the chance to work with @jae.sketch, and collaborating with her was so much fun! Rachel managed to take my sometimes disparate ideas and pull out the best elements and created something absolutely divine and even better than what I imagined 💕

Elain sat silently at one of the wrought-iron tables, a cup of tea before her. Azriel was sprawled on the chaise longue across the gray stones, sunning his wings and reading what looked to be a stack of reports—likely information on the Autumn Court that he planned to present to Rhys once he sorted through it all. Already dressed for the Hewn City—the brutal, beautiful armor so at odds with the lovely garden. And my sister sitting within it.

"Why not make them mates?" I mused.

▪️▪️▪️

"What if"—I jerked my chin toward the window, to my sister and the shadowsinger in the garden— "that is what she needs? Is there no free will?"
