Some Julien sketches based on Matt's amazing facial features (and a bonus Occtis). This was equal parts fun and frustrating - it's a fun exercise, but dang if it isn't tricky. There was a lot more I wanted to do, but I just hit that point where everything starts to look bad, so I have to just call this sketch page done. So these are a bit all over the place, but hey, practice is practice.

I'm so sorry this took so long. I just fell behind on things, then I when I finally got back to this, I scrapped it and and redid it. I definitely think it was worth it - this is much funnier. Please accept Hector and Bearcats eating popcorn in the background as my apology.

I got to participate in this zine this year! I did a very detailed painting of a Humphead Wrasse that nearly broke me, but it turned out beautifully, and I'm very proud of it! The zine is packed full of amazing art, and all the proceeds go to help our oceans, so consider checking it out!

Another fun fact, Beau is a champagne thoroughbred. 'Cause she's from a wine family, and she's... Thoreau-bred! I am so hilarious. Going forward, I will be quitting art to pursue horse-based comedy full time.

I recently played through the game 'I Was A Teenage Exocolonist' and felt inspired to paint what an alien nightsky might look like. This piece is watercolor with some digital touch ups.
By pure coincidence I happened to be working on this just as a fandom event was happening, so instead of keeping it as a personal piece, I figured I'd share it. It's a wonderful little game, and it deserves a lot more love.
I just realized what I think they're doing with Essek in The Mighty Nein animated series. Or at least, something I think they're setting up. Heavy campaign 2 spoilers ahead, and also spoilers for The Mighty Nein animated, of course.
In the campaign, Caleb and Nott couldn’t figure out the spell to make Nott into her old self again on their own. It was only with Essek’s help that they were able to get it to work. It was a nice gesture on Essek’s part, a friend helping new friends. It's been years since I watched the campaign, but I remember not really thinking much of this beyond 'isn't it nice to see Essek and Caleb working together'.
But the animated series' introduction to Essek adds a whole new layer to this. Essek is the reason Verrat never became a parent. It could also be argued that Essek is the reason he lost his own parents. And he will also be the reason Veth will be reunited with her child. How beautifully poetic that the man who stole his friend's only chance at fatherhood, will also be the reason a mother gets to hold her baby again.
And that ties in perfectly to the message of the Mighty Nein, doesn’t it? Essek doesn't help Caleb and Nott out of obligation, or a need to make up for his past mistakes, but as a genuine act of kindness. One good deed doesn’t make up for everything Essek has done, but for at least one family, one child, one mother, that one good deed means everything.

This came to me after seeing Baby Braius in The Mighty Nein animated and I had to draw it.

My work for the latest @artists-guild-of-exandria project! I knew I wanted to do an old-timey 'posing with my magnificent livestock in a field to show them off' style painting. There was not a whole lot of information on Plainscows to work off of - just that they're 6 feet tall, used as mounts and empathetic. I don't know if the person who wrote that understood how freaking huge a six foot tall cow would be, but for the record - they're ginormous. I had to keep shrinking the saddle because I realized just how tiny his rider is next to him. Otherwise I had a lot of creative liberty as to what it would look like. I ended up combining the traits of wildebeest, yak, and aurochs, to try and make an animal that looked like a cow, but more fantastical. As for the saddle I looked at Mongolian saddles for reference. The rug and other trappings drew a lot of influence from Tibetan yak saddles and adornment. I kind of want an excuse to turn him and his rider into new characters. I just don't know what for yet.
Been a while since I stretched my character design muscles, so I tried drawing some characters from one of my favorite films, 'Ladyhawke', in the style of Cartoon Saloon.
