starlight and trixie comic
i'm breaking the author's silence to address these tags directly, because i've seen similar responses a few times. your context is part of you. you like your favorite band because you found them somehow. you speak the languages you speak because somebody else taught you. you feel the way you feel because you have memories and experiences. shaving off pieces of yourself will not reveal a truth at the center, and will only make you feel less like a person worth being. you will never shed your context or influences, anymore than you will ever become younger or undrink a glass of water. but you are free to create as much additional context as you like. build yourself outward instead of digging for yourself at the center. trying 100 new things will give you 100 more data points on what you like, don't like, think, believe, feel. it might begin to reveal an image of yourself that you can recognize, respect, and love. your life is not an object to be kept clean, it is an ongoing action that you get to control. also that's starlight glimmer not rarity.
Someone mentioned how they were having a hard time creating a world for their fantasy fiction geographically because they kept reinventing the island of Britain, which also happened to my good close enemy George R. R. Martin. I would like to suggest North Carolina. I know that sounds absolutely ridiculous but North Carolina has an awesome geographic setup for a fantasy kingdom, I think. Inhospitable barrier islands, constantly shifting shoals in the sound, swamps with alligators, venomous snakes and carnivorous plants, lots of very flat and somewhat sparsely populated farmland, foothills, mines, mountains full of mysterious phenomenon that were originally very difficult to navigate and people still get lost in today. It kind of rocks.
AND VENUS FLYTRAPS ARE NATIVE TO THE CAROLINAS!
There are actually 36 carnivorous plant species native to North Carolina, roughly half of all carnivorous plant species in the United States are found in North Carolina! I added the carnivorous plant detail because that’s something I love about the state. We have so many fucking bugs that the plants keep evolving to eat them.
I love that giant man eating Venus flytraps are worldbuilding staples in untamed tropical fantasy settings but they’re actually native to a small region in the Carolinas.
And I agree with the notes, the Chesapeake Bay + Great Dismal Swamp (partially in NC anyway) and the South Carolina Lowcountry would be good geographic additions to this.
unhappy endings
"Even though she's rich, she's not trying to cozy up to the Capitol people. We're all equally beneath her."
Sunrise on the reaping 🌅
wanted to draw Lenore Dove and Haymitch with the Gooseys in their moment of peace 🪿 Do not disturb them or u will get the honk!
This is the end of the book by the way I don’t take criticism ò-ó
“Not to eat, to hatch.”
“But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token,
And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, “Lenore?”
“what color’s that?”
“same as the bird.”

all of the district twelve victors had the most poetic lines ever like katniss "if we burn, you burn with us" everdeen, peeta "it costs more than your life. to murder innocent people? it costs everything you are" mellark, haymitch "they will not use my tears for their entertainment" abernathy, and lucy gray "too bad i'm the bet that you lost in the reaping, now what will you do when i go to my grave?" baird.
they could never make me think sejanus was an idiot for wanting change and trusting snow. they could never make me think wyatt was an idiot for giving his life for someone with zero chances of winning. they're both good people and were willing to die for it. no matter what you say i respect and love characters who are like that
The Victors of District 12
i like that the hunger games are filled with angry women. we should all be more angry abt what’s happening in the world rn.
“sotr is mid because you already know how it ends” shut the fuck up, the point of the book is that despite knowing how it ends you would have never known what actually went down because that’s the point of propaganda, the whole book is about the power of propaganda
