my unpopular opinions as someone who’s chronically ill, in online nursing spaces and is pursuing nursing
1. Y’all are so quick to cancel nurses that advocate for safe staffing, Disabled/chronically ill people, unions and having passions outside of nursing but in the same breath praise nurses that joke about hitting patients, treating homeless people as subhuman, being anti vax and encourage nurse bullying. That’s very strange.
2. A lot of nursing influencers don’t show pre nursing stuff, which is sad because I think it would humanize them a lot more.
3. For a field that lacks nurses and complains about shortages, it struggles with gate keeping and bullying people. Literally saw a post that says Disabled people can’t become nurses because “nurses can’t be weak.”
4. Reddit, Instagram and Facebook have some of the most toxic nursing platforms on them.
5. If you have the time and energy to create whole subreddits, blogs or accounts to bash other nurses and nursing students, you aren’t using your time well.
6. Adding onto Number 6, if you are going to do that, don’t be ignorant enough to add your name and the state you practice in.
7. I genuinely don’t understand the Nurse Nya and Nurse Erica hate, they advocate for what’s in Number 1 (but aren’t the only ones) and people are mad because they say things like “nursing isn’t a perfect field, we struggle with systemic inequality” and “stop bullying chronically ill people” and they’re met with…HATE? But the haters will point and say that nursing should only be a calling and is a perfect field 💀?
8. You should have some empathy to be a nurse and awareness of social climates around you.
