Lottery scam

If you get a message from a Facebook friend saying you’ve won a £30,000 lottery on Facebook, watch out. That's exactly what happened to a woman in Liverpool, and to plenty of other people around the country.

In the Liverpool case, someone on Facebook named Sarah Casady contacted the woman to tell her she won the lottery. But to get her money she'd have to send £150 to cover "insurance" and other fees. She did, but she didn't get her “winnings.” Instead, an unknown man started reaching out to her, trying to get more money.

The same scam happened to a woman in London. In that case, she sent £850 and then was asked to wire more to get an even bigger prize. Of course, hackers had taken over her friend's Facebook page and were using their relationship to trick her. In both cases, the victims aren't going to see their money again.

When users feel overwhelmed, they tend to default to unsafe practices that put their privacy at risk.”

Secret Sister gift exchange is a scam

It sounds like great fun! Join your friends for a “Secret Santa” type gift exchange, and invite lots of others to the party. Only problem is that it’s a hoax.

Watch out if you get a message on your Facebook Newsfeed (also spotted on Reddit) inviting you to join a ‘Secret Sister’ gift exchange. And don’t pass it on, either. It’s a scam, it’s against Facebook’s Terms of Service for sharing personal information, and it could very well be illegal.

More malware found on third party app stores

As Google Play tightens their security measures on mobile apps, hackers are moving to third party app stores. Fake apps imitating popular apps were found on the Windows Phone Store earlier this week. Now a new batch of infected Android apps imitating the real deal have been found on unofficial third-party Android app stores.

Scams , part 3

This is a scam that usually takes place over video messaging .

A women or man will target you personally and pretend to be your new friend

they will ask to add you on Facebook then download all over your friends first and last names

They will build up a trusting relationship with you over the space of 20 minutes until asking you to do something silly or embarrassing via web chat, They will then threaten that if you do not pay them a large amount of money they will send that video to all over your friends and family.

Scams part 2

A fairly new scam which is proven to be quite affective is the fine scam

Basically what happens is as a result of downloading illegal music , videos , movies or even pornography you are then redirected to a window which states as a result of illegal behaviour you must pay a fine otherwise consequences will follow

It will then list all the laws you have broken

A lot of people fall for this scam because they know what they are doing is bad however the shock that they got caught makes them pay up straight away.

They ask for your bank details you wire the money across and that is the end of that

However!, unless you pay the money they will freeze every window on your computer so all you can literally do is type in your details

If you are a victim to this shut down your pc manually and everything will be fine

Scams

One of the oldest scams in the book focuses on the oldest of people, (Scammers) are targeting elderly folks in order to get money !.

This is how they do it.

As you are probably aware elderly people are more naive/ gullible than most people . they are also extremely forgetful at times.

They contact you pretending to be a grandson or grand daughter who has some sort of throat infection and has been taking medication for it which is why their voice may sound different on the phone. as a result of taking the medication they where pulled over by the police and failed the breathalyser test due to the medication

They ask if your grandma/ granddad would be able to wire you around 500 euro in order to bail you out of jail otherwise you would be stuck there over night.

The money would then be transferred and they move on to the next victim

This process is usually on the phone but can also be on your Computer

Number of free users—between 80 and 93 million. there are around 93 million registered users and about 80 million of them have updated their virus definitions recently. avast is the 1st / 2nd largest security user base in the world.

In terms of pirated users there where around 14 million which avast had to then email those users to inform them they would have to purchase a legal copy or down grade to the free product that they provide

1 billion a month worth of malware is blocked and in comparison to other protection software avast seems to find a lot more malware even with its huge amount of users
