Kingsman 2014 Film N'Fashion
Having just watched this awesome film, directed by Matthew Vaughn… I was impressed with Esquire’s latest article on the best dress for men with a secret agent fascination.

Eight Nights of Jewish Women in Comics #3: Rutu Modan
Rutu Modan is an Israeli cartoonist whose two most well-known and acclaimed works, Exit Wounds and The Property, strike a skillful balance in portraying real people with personal, quotidian concerns against the backdrop of the political, social, and historical contexts that modern Jews of Europe and Israel live with.
Exit Wounds tells the story of a young man who travels from Tel Aviv to Hadera with his estranged father’s younger girlfriend to identify a body from a suicide bombing she believes to be his. Along the way they both discover just how little either of them knew him. In The Property, a young Israeli woman travels to Warsaw with her grandmother with the intention of reclaiming a building the family owned before the Nazi invasion. But those plans change for reasons that take a while to come completely to light. The book follows the various story strands that wind around this property until the full tapestry is revealed at the end. Both expressively told in a deceptively simple ligne claire style, she neither romanticizes the tragedies nor minimizes the personal dramas that spring therefrom, reminding the reader why tragedies are tragedies in the first place— because every single person involved in them has their lives and loves cut short, while their survivors suffer a permanent interruption of their own lives, which will never return to how they were before.
Both books won the Eisner Award for Best New Graphic Novel in their respective years. She has also published a collection of short stories, Jamilti and Other Stories, and a children’s comic, Maya Makes a Mess, through Françoise Mouly’s Toon Books.
Thanks to Comics DC for the photo of Modan from SPX 2013, where, according to the inscriptions in my copies of Exit Wounds and The Property, I also met her, but do not have even the slightest recollection of doing so. In my defense, SPX was almost suffocatingly hectic that year, and I was focused on making sure my new girlfriend wasn’t bored.
