I will no longer be RPing here

I'm going to try and remodel my character into an OC because he's too separate from canon now for me to feel at all comfortable with him being "Kevin from Welcome To Night Vale" - it's ooc for him to act how he does with what we know now and while I could have him exist in an au where everything's not terrible, I'd rather take the parts of my characterisation I love and make my own little guy called Kevin Piper who can go on being cute and fun in my own universe stuff, or in AUs anyway talking to other characters, yeah?

Add into that that I've fallen out of listening to the podcast due to stress and I've seen some really disgusting stuff from WTNV fandom and rpers and it's just not worth me trying to do anything more with this blog. My Carlos account is still up but again I'm not up to date and what I've heard from where the story's going strikes me as really gross so that's not looking good either. Sorry.

I'm going to leave this blog up with the url unchanged for archiving purposes, and I'm still rping elsewhere - if you're a friend of mine you'll probably know already what accounts I'm frequenting and if you wanna come ask me more on skype go right ahead. My sideblogs have been moved over to a new account and I'm going to disable asks and submissions here. Take care.

having Carlos as the smiling god on the grounds that he has perfect teeth and hair completely ignores other canon  where Cecil wonderously realises Carlos is imperfect and that he is imperfect and that imperfection is great

The Smiling God's standard of perfection is just as much in personality and mannerisms as it is in looks so there's literally no way???))

so is there ever a time that it IS okay to play a POC / queer person as the villain? say they have no established canon to say otherwise. they're either someone's OC or just an extra 'background' character from something with no story or personality assigned to them through the narrative.

That makes perfect sense!

But taking a beautifully thought out queer man of color in a healthy, well written relationship and trying to twist him into something abusive and evil is not okay.

Carlos has more than two years of established canon, where he’s kind and intelligent and supportive of Cecil and risks his damn life to save the whole town for christ’s sake. Do you see the difference?

Anon, that's a false equivalence beause the entire discussion was about Carlos who has all of these personality traits

of course you can do whatever you want with an OC

misc background characters are open to interpretation

POC / Queer people / QPOC are just as capable of being the villain as white cishets, but there needs to be a consideration of the message you're sending out when you assign them this role, given how long stereotypes have been used to 'other' queer people and POC by making them villains, by making them the enemy, by giving white non-queer people an oppertunity to hate them and wish ill upon them with no negative consequence

perpetuating negative stereotypes doesn't have to be a concious decision which is why it's important to try and check yourself often and to let people know when they're doing it unintentionally))

okay i’m demanding all of you reblog this and reblog it again because it’s that important. personality disorders are not an excuse for abusive behavior. if someone with a personality disorder does something that feels abusive and you ask them to stop and they don’t then they are a person with a personality disorder who is also abusive.

there are no excuses and no get-outs and there is no wiggle room in this, okay. personality disorders do not make you incapable of correcting cruel behavior or listening to your friends or not being abusive and if someone argues otherwise you shut them down and you send them my way, okay? i am so tired of people with my illness using my illness to excuse the fact that they are abusive
