COLIN LINDSAY
These are 4 photos from an exhibition I had in Leith, Edinburgh at the end of 2017 / beginning of 2018. I exhibited 14 photographs of Edinburgh that were inspired by a series of photos by Dennis Jorgenson. He took an iphone and photographed the corners of advertising hordings where the layers of the different adverts were left and created ‘found abstracts’ from these.
I then set about photographing Edinburgh in a similar way; that Edinburgh that wasn’t Edinburgh Castle, the New Town, the traditional shots. Bit by bit I gathered shots of industrial units, the backs of supermarkets, a swimming pool, signs for businesses etc and eventually I had an adstract exhibition to show. I’ve always been fascinated by screen printing and largely these photographs are sketches for screen prints I hope one day to make. (So far I’ve done one; progress is not rapid)
Colin Lindsay lives and works in Edinburgh. He usually posts photographs under his childhood nickname of MisterFT.
