It was getting a little lonely, so he adopted a goldfish. In true Khalid style, he named his new friend Football.
It didn't take long for it to dawn on Khalid that this was his home where he could do whatever he wanted.
The inside of the small house was minimally furnished, but most importantly, it was clean and everything seemed to work. This was the best birthday present Khalid had ever received.
Sim-May 2012 - The Boathouse
Khalid was confused. His dad had told him he had a birthday gift for him and they had travelled out to the old boathouse. He had known it to be a dodgy bumbleleaf den and even the bravest, most stupid teenagers in Enekjaer gave it a wide berth.
"Dad, why are we here? You scoring me some bumbleleaf for my birthday wasn't on my birthday bingo." Khalid smirked.
"Very funny. The...squatters who lived her moved on and this place happened to come on the market for next to nothing. I know you want to move out, so....your brothers and I...well Zaid fixed it up for you. It's not perfect, but it's a start."
Khalid hugged his dad, which temporarily stunned both of them; neither really had that kind of relationship, but he didn't know how to put into words how grateful he was. This was the fresh start he needed as an adult.
Farid felt a bit hairer and less angry, but more or less the same. Behind him, he heard his dad cheering. Khizer was simply ecstatic that he wouldn't have to deal with a bunch of teenagers in his house, high on sugar.
Khalid got up early the following day. As expected, his birthday cake was waiting for him. He knew his mum was desparate to throw a party for him and a few years ago, he would have been disgusted at the idea of not throwing one. Khalid took a deep breath and blew out his candles, knowing what was coming next.
But first, he would read Yasmeen her favourite book.
Sim-May 2012 - The Al Farsi Family Home
Khalid's birthday was tomorrow and while he was never the brightest bulb, he did have a sudden realisation while reminising over his beloved Camp Windiwell poster. His teen years hadn't been particularly happy save for the time he spent at camp where he got to create his own identity. People liked him there. He was desparate to be liked back home, but he always seemed to do or say the wrong thing. He was done with being a teenager and he was more than done with school. He was ready to be his own person in the world.
After Farid bid them good night, Danni and Farhan noticed that the baby was silent. They took the chance while they had it.
They finished off the evening with a challenging game of Hungry Hippos.
The fact that Danni always made his favourite veggie burgers didn't do any harm either!
Danni and Farhan's favourite not-quite-brother-in-law dropped by for a visit. He loved their house as it was always quiet and could get to see his nephew.
When Danni arrived home, she made a beeline straight for James. Of course he was fine, but she had to check anyway!
While Danni was hard at work at the cafe, Farhan was working on his non-fiction novel about life in a houseboat. He was finding this challenging given he no longer lived alone on the ocean and had no intention of returning to that life.
I accidentally murdered Mayor Bernice and some of her family when I was cleaning my save at some point between 2021 and 2023. Her two nice children seem to be elsewhere in the save, while her misery of a husband and her mean son seem to have been banished...I mean it does fit the storyline, but it's all too nicey nicey without the bitch.
The islanders had clearly heard about her return, as the little cafe was unusually busy! Jorani, the newly employed waitress was a huge help. Dannii made a mental note to raise her pay if this continued.
The Lighthouse Cafe
It was a foggy spring morning on Enekjaer when Dannii arrived at her cafe for the first time since having baby James. She knew he was in safe hands with Farhan and she was ready to get back to work, cooking up a storm in her kitchen.
