Your CC Questions Answered
What is CC: CC stands for Custom Content, it is items (clothing, hair, furniture etc.) created by people in The Sims community for others to add to their game.
Is CC free: CC can be free (there is plenty of free CC online) or could be behind a paywall such as a Pateron membership, or other payment requirement.
Is CC like a mod: although CC files live inside your mods folder they don’t actually mod(ify) your gameplay. CC items are created by a mesh and are added to the game like a new object or ‘re-skined’ object already in your game they don’t change the way The Sims game actually plays.
Can CC break my game: It could, although it shouldn’t, if you download CC from reputable places and creators you should be fine. Most often CC itself will just not work if its broken and you can remove it from your mods folder and resume gameplay as usual. The Sims community has been adding CC since The original Sims, it’s a great community and has been around for quite some time.
How do I add CC: I will put a post above this one with pictures and more detail but the most common way is by downloading a .package file -> moving it the [Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/ Mods] folder and then running your game as usual with the mods box in The Sims setting menu enabled.
I used to be able to download whole files of CC for Sims, what happened: Maxis doesn’t have a problem with CC being in the game, but since its not their own creation and has a potential (as any download from the internet does) to pose risks to the way the game runs, its much safer to download items one at a time to minimize the chance of viruses and/or breaking your game.
I downloaded a ‘modded’ sim from the gallery and it loaded into my game without any of the CC: Because Maxis cant vet every item of CC players make they cannot host the CC themselves. You still need to download all the CC items for the sim to show up like it does in the gallery photos. Most creators add a link to where you can see and download all the CC items they used on the particular sim.
What is Alpha and Maxis Match CC: CC generally comes in two different ‘styles’ Alpha or Maxis Match (MM). Maxis Match CC matches the aesthetics of The Sims world as is. It should blend in with your townies and not look any different than the style that Maxis creates in. Alpha is much more detailed and often looks more high-def (think strands of hair rather than one large piece with shading, or individual eyelashes rather than the Maxis style of one large eyelash piece). Neither style has any game benefit over the other, it’s completely up to you what style you like more or want to use in your game.
Can I take CC out of my game if I decide I don’t want it anymore: absolutely, just take the .package file out of your mods folder and it will no longer be in your game (if you had sims that were using the CC it will no longer show up).
