“you don’t want to stay?” kyle’s whiny voice was piercing in her ears. she frowned as she put her tank top back on. she would actually rather sleep in the town’s junkyard than stay one more moment in his “house”.
“you know i have to go,” she kept her voice sweet as she spoke, fearing he wouldn’t want to see her anymore if she ever showed any other version of herself than the “sweet girlfriend”.
he nodded, the same easy smile on his face. he rested his head back against the cold industrial metal wall above his bed, arms stretched out. “but tonight was fun, yeah?”
“yeah, i—” mags stopped as she heard the engine of a parked car in front of the house. she froze, eyes wide with fear. she wondered who it could be.
she didn’t have to guess for long when she saw miracle got out of the car, marching down to the door, then slamming it open. ugh, kyle couldn’t even afford to get the locks replaced.
“yo, what the hell?” kyle jumped up from his bed; his flame-decorated boxers were embarrassingly out for display. miracle took one millisecond to look at his pathetic self before focusing on her sister.
“you need to go home right now,” miracle said, moving forward to take mags’s hand and try to lead her out of the door, but mags was faster, pulling her hand away and taking a step back. she shook her head defiantly.
“i’m not going anywhere,” she says, meeting her eyes. mags actually wanted to leave, but on her own terms and preferably with a walk back home. nobody has the right to tell her what to do.
miracle closed the door. mags was sure this was for luna to not see the mess that was about to come.
miracle got close to her sister, so close that mags could smell her floral candy body spray and that rich people house smell, leftover from leaving luna’s.
“mags, i know you’re not that much of an idiot so let’s save us the trouble and let’s go.” miracle tried again to take her arm but failed. mags brought her arms close to her chest.
“i told you i'm not going anywhere!” “you’re such a pain! i swear—”
kyle placed himself between the two sisters, much to their chagrin. “hey, hey. mags can do whatever she wants, okay? she’s an adult!” he says, reaching back to brush his hands against mags to comfort her.
“ha!” miracle exclaimed with both amusement and disbelief. “she’s 17, you predator, and you don’t get to say anything in this conversation. be a good creep and stay out of this, hobo.”
miracle’s aggression level had reached her limit. she conjured up all her strength and shoved kyle back as hard as she could.
kyle, despite his taller and overall stronger physique, stumbled back into the kitchen cabinet, pushing mags back as well. she groaned with pain when her back hit against the ledge of the cabinet.
“oh my god, mags, are you okay?” kyle turned around quickly to face her. mags pushed him away weakly, tired from the anger, the pain and the embarrassment.
“okay, that’s enough. i-i’ ll go home now,” mags says, defeated. kyle looked back in surprise but mags avoided looking anywhere but the door.
she didn’t even look back once as she left the shipping container and climbed into luna’s car.
