Tildrew has recently undergone cosmetic surgery. Personally, I prefer his older look better, but what does the rest of the party think?

Yuu note: So, Al gets attacked by a xtabay. It's essentially this evil flowering plant that likes to make people fall asleep and tentacle rape them to get their life. Our wonderful witch was nice enough to draw it xD
Stupid Zombies... Skeletons... Whatever...
Today, our group decided to split up.
Eris and I decided to research at the church, which meant we started off with a bit of cleaning. I asked the Head Priest about Ravengro's zombie problem (probably less obliquely than I should). He said that the Temple did the burial rights and never had a zombie problem until recently. Or a vampire one, as I was quick to ask -- best to cover all the bases, yes?
Our attempts at researching is... much less successful. We tried to research independentally, but there's so much to look through... Note to self, next time, we'll have to drag the others, even if they want to go explore other things...
The rest that I write is a mix of what the others told me and my own first hand experiences, but some of it is a bit blurrier than I wish it was for reasons that will become obvious further in the log.
The rest The others decided that checking in on the apothecary would be a good plan of action. They met the human Jomida Fallenbridge, the owner of the shop in question. She has lots of herbs, potions, and medicine.
They bantered easily with Ms. Fallenbridge (that sounds like such an elifsh name, funnily enough); she mostly makes Cure Light Wounds and Restoration potions for the townspeople, but rarely gives them out unless someone is actually hurt. They had asked if Professor Lorrimor was a frequent visitor, and it seems that he came by before he had died to buy holy water, and that he resupplied there on occassion, especially before his long journeys. "Regular" wasn't a term appied to him as he travels so much and when he did stay in Ravengro for a while, he wouldn't need to buy her "smoke sticks". She only knows the rumors that were running around town the last few days about sturges, which makes me think she likely is not the cause.
Mondai also mentioned that there were undead around her store, which Ms. Fallenbridge replied that her neighbors also told her about the rotting corpses found nearby. She was thankful for the reminder and said she would keep flasks of Holy Water on her just in case.
Everyone best keep on guard to not get attacked. The Restlands holds a lot of (supposedly) reseted souls, but it was the only place with in tact corpses. The only person even suspeted of necromancy in Ravengro was the late professor which is... no, just no.
I believe we should not even entertain that thought.
The others than headed to the new jail in town, which was usually empty baring the occasional drunkard or rabble-rouser. They talked to the sherif. Alan out and asked him about Harrowstone and the professor. The sheriff said that he was the one who picked up the body -- the face was smashed in, but there were no marks or evidence that would suggest anything but an accident. Mondai than told the sheriff about the zombies, but the attack last night wasn't the only one to plague Ravengro. The other night, there was another zombie attack near Councilman Hartman's house, but they were able to fend off the lone zombie that attacked. He and his deputies planned to start patrolling at night, but he was going to check on the Restlands.
He offered to let us follow along, which the others quickly accepted. They headed to the temple, which allowed them to regroup with Eris and myself.
This is the second time we went to the Restlands with permission. We already planned to check out the crypt from our first night if we had the chance, but before we could implement it, I detected undead.
What the hell, why are there so many zombies now?
...
No, don't answer that.
They weren't zombies per se, but skeletons. We had a breather before they were upon us, which was enough time to let Seph down one with magic missles. Eris is attacked and I attempt to charge one (which fails, go figure). Mondai's attacks, although they connect, don't do as much damage as we are used to, thanks to the fact that it has no flesh. The sheriff starts to use his longbow to attack, but he fails and is attacked instead. I quickly try to keep the skeletons off of him (it would be a pain to explain a dead sheriff, after all) and am brought down by the skeletons.
It seems Seph was able to take out the last skeleton as I stablized. I'm not dead, but I'm certainly not up to doing anything, especially sicne no one can actually heal me.
I wonder what's going to happen next...?

The Notorious Five
This morning, Mondai awoke with a hungover. That is... not surprising really.
We asked about Ms Kendra's day yesterday, as we haven't really seen her. It seems that she talked to a friend of hers, a councilwoman, over tea. She discussed what she should do with the estate and her friend was able to give her advice. Ms. Kendra also heard that we were attacked two days ago, from one of the little girls who ran around town and telling everyone what happened. It seems the town, as a whole, was very happy we were there when the sturges attacked. "You've been so productive in town! Thank you!"
Today, it seems Ms. Kendra plans to clear up a previous argument with a friend, since she is seriously considering moving away from town. I hope it goes well for her.
We started off by going to the temple, where we prayed than cleaned up so we could do some research on the five infamous criminals who had just moved into Harrowstone just before the riot. It seemed Harrowstone used to only be a local prisoners, but later other towns across Ustalav paid to keep a number of their most violent prisoners. The five most notorious that moved into Harrowstone was Father Charlatan, the Lopper, The Mosswater Marauder, the Piper of Illmarsh, and the Splatterman.
I've never heard of them, but I'm willing to bet we can find more information on them.
Night fell in Ravengro. We wandered around towards the apothecary and I mentioned the little tidbit Alan heard the other day. No one was around and hte shutters were all down, herbs lining the racks for sale. A couple of drunks stumbled by us and one attempted to bite Mondai. She promptly takes him out, what we thought was nonleathally, but the moment he went down, we saw that his head was rottent through. Like, rotten rooten, with the worms and the festering and, ewwww. night time. I attempted to hit the other zombie, Seph can't cast defensively (which isn't really anything new) and even Alan misses. Eventually a well-placed Magic Missle from Seph and a two-weaponed attack from Mondai was able to get the zombie to go down and stay down.
I'm kind of worried. If these were just drunks, would the "local brew" Mondai drank last night be the cause? Or was it something else? I'll keep a close eye on her just in case, but I doubt it is the case. There were tracks, but none of us were really proficient at tracking so we couldn't really trace where the zombies came from. We dragged the corpses further into the alley. Thankfully, no one saw us...
We hae returned to Kendra's, which gives me time to write this down. Zombies. Now we have a zombie problem. Wonderful.
What in the world is happening in Ravengro?

Churches and Bars
Morning came once again. The first thing I did, as Ms. Kendra left us to our meal, was tell the others of my fear that I summoned the sturges when I played the rhyme. Seph, being the scientifically minded sorcerer that he is, said we should test my theory.
We traveled to the outskirts of town and they had me play for a moment, to no avail. And then some more. And then the others began singing along (and oh if they were not my friends and allies, I would have strangled them for such butchery of the sacred arts of music) but nothing continued to happen. I am fairly sure there is some sort of link, but I can't figure out what...
We headed back into Ravengro, specifically the Church of Pharasma. I asked about the condition of the children, and the Head Priest assured me that they were okay, but they would be watching over them to see if the symptoms reappear. He then thanked us for helping the children and was willing to give us access to the records we sought for the day only.
See, who saids good deeds go unpunished?
We all helped out on the research to learn more about the history of Ravengro, Harrowstone Prison especially. It seemed, before the fire, five notorious prisoners were recently transferred there because of Harrowstone's reputation. The fire, that we were told was an accident, was less than an accident than we were led to believe. In lower level three, the prisoners had already taken control, and the warden ordered the guards to block the main entrances/exits to the lower levels to keep them in. But it was a losing battles -- the guards were losing ground, especially since there were other passages between the levels they were not blocking. One of the guards panicked and accidentally started the fire which, ultimately, stopped the riot, but at the expense of all that was inside the prison.
It took a while to learn all this, but the priest decided to cut us a deal. -- if we helped take care of the church during the morning hours, he would be willing to give us access to the records in the evenings. And praying to Pharasma would certainly help as well.
It was night by the time we left the temple and I decided perhaps now it would be best we check out the age old watering ground for information any bard worth his salt would go to - the local bar. Even before we entered inside, we could hear the singing and laughter that is associated with such places. The pubmaster, a portly but amusing man by the name of Zokar Elkarid, gave a free taste of the local brew, a glowing green drink called the "Liquid Ghost". You'll excuse me for thinking this was kind of weird, but Mondai was willing to chug it down, saying it was sweet and alcoholic.
The bar also had interesting things to eat, Wolf Bars (mutton meat balls), Corpse Chowder (red broth soup with food inside), and Vampire Meat (beef). I was worried when Sir Elkarid said "Vampire Meat" (even though I know that such a term was oxymoronic all things considering) since, you know... That's like cannibalism or something, so I stuck with wolf balls.
I was just making small talke when I jokingly called Ravengrow a "haunting" place, but it seemed that hit a chord with the barman. It seems there have been happenings around town that had got people spooked, and not just the statue incident from the day before. It seems people have been having weird nightmares, seeing strange lights floating at night and thinks like that. Sir Elkarid had not had these issues, but... Interesting thing to note.
After a while, Seph grabbed Mondai, who wanted to buy drinks for all the drunks to the bar. She was still able to throw Sir Elkarid a gold piece before we were able to cary her out, which would certainly give us a group of happy casual drinkers. Wonderful.
We went back to the Lorrimor's home. I hope Mondai is used to hangovers...

Ravengro, Take Two, Part the Second
There's too much to say about what happened today, hence why I split up this log.
The Head Priest of the temple told us that the students went to the local school, so we headed there. A group of girls were jump roping together in front of the school. The song though...
Put her body on the bed.
Take a knife and lop her head.
Watch the blood come out the pipe.
Feed the stirge, so nice and ripe.
Drops of red so sparkly bright.
Splatters spell her name just right.
With a hammer killed his wife.
Now he wants to claim your life.
Tricksy father tells a lie.
Listen close or you will die.
Dear gods, what do they teach children here in Ravengro? Regardless, I took the time to learn the song while Mondai played with the children and Seph and the others went inside the schoolhouse to talk to the boys who found Professor Lorrimor's body.
The others went inside and were told to wait until classes were over to talk to the teacher. Once classes ended, the teacher reluctantly talked to them, as his pupils watched, intrigued by the novelty of new people in a small town. He allowed them to talk to the kids, but only if it was for a moment and he could watch. It seems it was just a bit of bad luck that had them find Prof. Lorrimor's body.
At the same time, I was just getting the hang of the schoolyard rhyme and started playing it on my instrument. It was just bad luck that a pair giant, cat-sized mosquitos attacked us in the yard. The kids, in their fear start to run around wildly as one of the giant bugs latched onto a girl. Mondai was able to sneak attack and hit one of them off of her and I was able to fascinate the mosquito. It was then that I noticed that the mosquitos were beating their wings to the song.
Well... that probably wasn't a very good thing, but I kept playing regardless.
Mondai was able to kill the mosquito easily just as the others and the teacher came outside in response to the children's yells. I stopped playing, as the teacher ran to the kids (or the kids ran to him, whatever...) He examined the children and the corpses and declared that the mosquitoes were actually sturges -- magical beasts that could possibly carry disease. We best get the children checked out quickly. I don't think my concious could take it if they were permanently harmed because of something I might have unknowingly done.
Of course, when the old man starts asking how the sturges got there, I played dumb and said I wasn't sure because, honestly, I really wasn't sure. It could have just could have been a cosmic coincidence, right?
Right?
We headed back to the Temple (jeeze, that priest must be sick of seeing me), teacher and several students in tow. It seems a sturge was an unusual thing to see and the children were too excited to just go home. I was able to talk to the children who found Prof. Lorrimor, and they continued their tale. They, naturally, ran back to town right away to tell someone. They're good kids, it seems, if a bit mischievous. The children also seemed to be very excited about me, personally, since I could play an instrument. They asked me to play, so I performed a small bit to their amusement before we entered the temple. The kids who were bit might have caught something, but it was a good thing the teacher could identify the bugs as sturges early, so that they would not be wandering around town. The priests at the temple could contain it, and hopefully keep them from going blind from Blinding sickness.
Thank Desna, they're okay.
It's late now, so let me wrap this up. I really, really hope I didn't summon those sturges.

Ravengro, Take Two, Part the First
Our second day in Ravengro began with a traditional breakfast, but was interrupted when another person mentioned in the will came to town. His name (or her name, Changelings are funny like that) is Alan. The rest of breakfast consisted of introduction, Mondai's meddling (Yes, Alan has a cool eyepatch, but I'm sure she knows that already) and me explaining what had happened over the last day. We left the Lorrimor estate and decided to split up, after I passed Ms. Eris my healing items. She, Mondai, Seph, and Tilldrew would be investigating Harrowstone, the ruins of the prison we heard about last night. Alan and myself, on the other hand, decided to head into town and learn more about it.
It was at this time that we heard about some sort of disturbance near a statue in town. Alan and I started there first -- a small group of people were crowded around it, as it seems something interesting happened to it. And by "interesting" I mean "likely to have disastrous effects on us staying in Ravengro." There was blood everywhere on and around the statue, like someone had opened up a person's body and gone to town throwing blood all around. There was a mark that suspiciously looked like a "V" near the statue, but it wasn't any magic glyph I had ever seen. It seemed no one else knew what to make of it as well. Alan suggested that we ask the villagers if they knew what happened. This sounded like a good idea and the two of us learned about the mysterious history of Harrowstone -- a ruined prison that was destroyed by a fire in the year 4661, which killed all the prisoners, most of the guards, the warren of Harrowstone, and his wife. Locals seemed to believe that the old building (built in 4954) it was haunted...
Shit.
My suggestion to cover more ground might have just put my friends in grave danger. It wouldn't be until later that night, when Mondai, Seph, and the others came back that I realized just how much trouble they would be in.
A bit more prodding with the crowd, we learned that the prisoners at Harrowstone were all criminals that were about to be executed, as it was only for the most dangerous of criminals. The fire that destroyed the prison was actually a blessing in the long run, as the prisoners were rioting that night and tried to riot and take over Harrowstone. If not for the sacrifice of the warden and guards, Harrowstone would have been overrun and who knows what would have happened to Ravengro?
Alan speculated that the 'v' was really an arrow, pointing towards town, but it was really inconclusive. I suggested that the two of us head to the town's church, as the late professor's journal mentioned that it might have more information about Harrowstone. Before we left though, Alan took a sample of the blood for later analysis.
Our arrival at the Church of Pharasma was met with little fanfare. We went up to the head cleric, and asked about the history of Harrowstone. He told us there were tomes within that we could use to research the revolt, but they were normally only allowed to members of the clergy and followers of Pharasma, neither of which Alan or I were. I attempted to bluff our way into the record room by saying I was a follower of Pharasma (I honestly had little qualm with her as she and my own beloved Desna have no issues with one another), but then the cleric countered that he he couldn't jus let random outsiders take a look.
I'm troubled that I was more aggravated about the fact that he still didn't let me read the stupid scriptures after I lied, than I am about the fact I lied about my beliefs in the first place. Even trying to play the "I'm a bard who wants to chronicle the histories of Ustalav" card was a failure. I'm not quite sure what Alan was doing as I was talking with the man, but she at least found where the records are held. I decided that we might as well abscond for the day and was just about to grab Alan when the priest stopped me and asked if I was the person who sneaked around in the Restlands last night.
Oh shit.
The bluff came easy enough -- we had left something in the cemetery after the funeral and went to go get it. Since it was so late, we thought sneaking in would be a better idea than awakening the clerics or waiting for the morning. The man believed me, but a our actions and told me that, next time we want to go to the Restlands, we should get permission first.
Crisis averted. Thank the goddess. I grabbed Alan and absconded, telling the monk that we would leave the records for now. Mondai was probably a better choice to steal them under the cleric's nose and I wasn't in good enough form to be a distraction. We headed back to Ms. Kendra and ask her about Ravengro. She couldn't really think of anything but rumors and she didn't have any idea about the "v" we found on the ground.
Instead, she suggested we go out and visit various places in town. Ms. Kendra led us around the town square, showing us the forge (owned by a dwarf who usually used his skills to make farm tools), the apothecary, a town jail, the general store, the inn, town hall and The Silk Purse. It seems it is a building for a money lending business. Farming is lucrative but there are always... issues when it comes to business. Across the river was the Temple of Pharasma, which Alan and I were at earlier, as well as three councilor's houses, but not the one who read the will the day before. The inn we ate at was pretty good, and Alan heard some interesting gossip - it seems that the sherif has been poking in the apothecary's business, due to possible drug creation.
That is something we should probably check into later as well... Just... professional curiosity, yeah?
We headed home with Kendra, awaiting what the other group found out. Seph filled me in on what happened.
The Harrowstone Prison is a crumbling shell of a building and it definitely seemed to be the kind of place that would be "haunted". Tilldrew set an alarm on the front gate after the group sent Mondai to scout the beginning of the main building through the front gate, which was just as crumbled as the rest of the building. Past the main gate, there was a hut, the main building, and guard towers. The left gate, closest to the rest of the party seemed calm, but from the farther gate, the group could see lots of little red eyes glaring at them from across the grounds. That... is ridiculously creepy, but they didn't seem to attack or come closer, so they headed to the old hut first.
Tildrew's knowledge of engineering was helpful, as he was able to identify that the hut looked like it was about to fall any moment. They looked inside and saw lots of tolls, but they couldn't really identify them at all. Just as they left, the house collapses, but it seems only Mondai's reflexes were able to save her from the falling debris.
The red eyes were still looking towards them. The group scaled the wall towards that tower and through an apt use of Seph's Dancing Lights spell, illuminated the room and were faced with a swarm of really large rats. They left them alone, but not before tossing a vial of oil at one of the masses to light the rat on fire. The group absconded and, it seems, left the swarm to its devices.
The main building was the next to be explored. They sent Mondai in first, and she saw that much of the grass had been cut away. There were runes on the ground, ones consistent to both necromancy and abjuration spells. But they were non-active and already used. The balcony above was unstable, meaning that they had to be careful if they were to go upstairs. Mondai entered the entrance foyer, and then went west into a hallway, with the others following. Suddenly, all the doors opened, the badly burt faces of shrieking criminals flying right by and through the others. Just as the screaming reached its peak, it all stopped and the doors all slammed shut, isolating Mondai from the rest of the group. The drow tried opening and lockpicking the door to no avail, but Seph was able to break open the door after two tries.
Instead of leaving the ruins, they decided to play around more with Harrowstone. Harrowstone played back, and it seemed it has a morbid sense of humor. A living straight jacket knocked out Mondai, which prompted them to return to Ms. Kendra's home.
The first thing I did was heal Mondai as Ms. Kendra asked what they did. It ended up with the Harrowstone group telling jus what happened as we pressed Ms. Kendra for information about the professor's death. A bunch of children and their silly dares was the only reason why Professor Lorrimor's body was found.
We also learned about Haunts -- there are several different types, but they all occur when someone dies in an unfortunate situation. It can be damaged through positive energy and can be neutralized, but they're very tricky since they can reappear after a certain amount of time. We could possibly notice their manifestation, but... Well, yeah.
Now that we're together again, it seems that the best bet to find out more about the late Professor's death is to ask the head priest. So, off to the Temple of Pharasma once more. It seems the villagers who found him dead said his face was crushed in, possibly from statues falling down (which the others noticed), and was nearly unidentifiable. It seems, all in all, that it was an accident that he died. But that's not really good enough for us.
To make up for the amount of priest's time I've taken, I dropped a gold piece in their coffers, Mondai following my lead. The priest was so happy for our generosity that he was willing to heal the group! Wonderful! (Even though I can't actually get healed but, hey, everyone else is okay now!)
I will... finish this log later. Please await the next log.
