four nights since fýlix's driver saved eva from a rain soaked stalker and ill intentions . four nights since she , drenched , climbed into the back seat of his car , sobbing . four nights since she still jumped whenever fýlix accidentally cast a shadow in the wrong spot in her sensitive vision .
he wanted her autonomy , as little encouraged as it was , to come back . he missed her spirit , her confidence - the little hints of it that he got here and there , now gone .
so he planned a small evening , at sundown , to go to one of the bookstores in the area having a poet read some work from a new collection . the lights would be dim , the moment intimate , and fýlix would be right there with her the entire time . then street food , of any kind , and back to the house .
now he just has to ask her . he has the tickets for the event in a little card , attached to a small sleeve of chocolate covered strawberries . to top it off , a bouquet of flowers already in a vase , more for rich scent and thick color than anything else .
it's already in the little study that he's thinking of giving to her , her own space for whatever interests she may have . carrying her , he brings her in where their morning coffee is already waiting for them , and gently sets her in her corner of the loveseat , right before the flowers . he kisses her temple as he moves to close the doors and give them some privacy , but he's listening for her response , his smile barely hidden . unprompted ask | Always Accepting
Evadne felt so incredibly stupid for what happened. She worked for a security company, she had training, she knew about the bad things that people could do. Yet she had let herself get so in her head with her daydreams that she didn't notice the creepy man approaching her. It was sheer luck that Fýlix's car was where it was. That his driver called out to her and that her boyfriend was in the back and able to cradle her until she felt safe.
Since then, she struggled greatly. She had refused to go home, she had refused to leave Fýlix's side. She had even refused to leave his house. All she knew was that he had great security, he made her feel safe and that her family was watching the surrounding streets and trying to track the creep down. For now she had just busied herself working from bed or the couch and curling up under the blankets to watch comfort movies in her love's arms - far more quiet and withdrawn than she had been before.
Yet Eva can't help the soft smile that pulls at her lips when he lifts her into his arms so effortlessly and tells her he has a surprise for her. She did like his surprises and the smile on his face told her that it was good. Holding onto him, she watched as he brought her to the study. The gifts were spotted before she was even set down and she gasped at how many components there were.
The coffees, the flowers, the box and the card.
"What's this? It's not our anniversary." She asks softly, reaching to pick up the vase to be able to admire the flowers in closer detail and sniff them. She knew their anniversary was in a few weeks, she tracked those details of their life closely.
"The flowers are beautiful! So pretty and all different pink colours." She describes them to him as he moves to sit beside her and holds them so he can smell them closer before putting them down.
"Should I open the box or the card first?" Her legs slip over his lap as they sit together, bringing the box and the card into her lap.
There was a pang of guilt that she hadn't gotten him anything, but she was learning that he just really liked getting things for her. And she was slowly learning to accept that.
