aaaarghhhhhhhhh
angie hart - reckless - australian crawl
next up is ex-frente singer angie hart. i would love to direct you to her annonyingly slow version of the cure’s ‘pictures of you’ or her painfully ockerised version of the smith’s ‘there’s a light that never goes out’ but they don’t fit the criteria. so i present her taking her jolly good time with the australian crawl classic. that said be fair to angie this one actually clocks in nearly a minute shorter than the original but james reyne's most recent recordings have been nearly a minute shorter than this.
missy higgins- hearts a mess - gotye
well missy has a great history of covers but more often than not they're a little too quick for me. now finally she pulls out a "sing sooooo slowly" ripper with this agonisingly version full of extended vibratos and closed eye intensity. my heads a mess
new buffalo - four seasons in one day - crowded house
this laurie anderson influenced version of the crowded house track completes the trilogy of the seeker lover keeper girls contributions. picking a slow cover of the tribute album she will have her way is pretty much shooting fish in a barrel. but i reckon this one is the most annoying of them all - sally seltman manages to leave the song devoid all emotion.
sarah blasko - xanadu - olivia newton john
our livvy gets a second turn on the slow turning rotisserie that is sing so slowy. the breathy sarah blasko returns with this super slow version of a dancefloor classic. does anyone know of a cover by sarah blasko where she doesn't sing slowly. she really seems to embrace the genre.
what causes someone to wake up and think to themselves " i know just what the world needs - me singing a cheesy disco tune in a tortuously drawn out manner"?
i'm asking you sarah? i await your response
katie noonan - choir girl - cold chisel
katie has a beautiful voice but she overworks this one. she also has a whole of slow beatle covers too
sarah mcleod - you weren't in love with me - billy field
its a super sarah saturday at sing so slowly. a lot of people have had a crack at this song: mick fleetwood, tim from the whitlams, the big guy from australian idol and country gal beccy cole.
when i first heard this i thought it was slower but turns out its pretty much the same speed as billy fields original, only a few seconds in it (though she does give us some good twang on a few overly drawn out notes. tim's version from his australian idle lp clocks in at a minute faster while beccy coles draws hers a minute longer - but there was no way i was posting her arrangement.
so pedants out there i apologies but i think it still kinda fits
sarah mcleod - you shook me all night long - ac/dc live cover. supposedly she was unsure of her version, but her friends convinced her she should do it. i suggest sarah trust her own instincts or find friends with better taste
Megan Washington - unguarded moment - the church I feel we need to cleanse ourselves after the ickiness of julia. here is how to cover an Australian classic with emotion and sincerity without slowing it down (and she could have easily done so). stilly breathy though, a little quirky and what appears to be a little amphetamine psychosis judging by the hand gestures. now let's see if anyone has murdered under the milky way
julia stone - you're the one that I want okay it maybe a stretch to call this an Aussie classic (even if our livvy sang it in grease) but this has it all. really slow singing stretched out tremolo voice, really breathy and a quirky ocker twang. the complete deal
holly throsby manages to stretch out Berlin chair by you am I by an extra 40 seconds. that's an extra 25% of Aussie classic rock.
and finally for today kate miller heidke does a moody little version of icehouse's "hey little girl"
let's start this blog with serial offender sarah blasko. her cover of the classic chisel song flame trees probably exemplifies the genre. that said it is a great song and was used to great effect in the film 'little fish'
