California's strict shark fin law remains intact

A shirtless man with a knife approaches the great white shark as it wriggles in pain on the rocking boat. The creature, with three, 6-inch hooks punctured through its face and mouth, is helpless as his killer carves its fins off and then kicks its bloody frame in the ocean.

Let's see more laws like California, and fewer fins!

Contact your representative today and tell him/her that you support a national ban on the shark fin trade, like the one Hawaii passed that cut illegal fin imports to Hong Kong by 54%. Source:

Today, an estimated 100 million sharks are killed every year for their fins. According to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, a third of all open ocean sharks are threatened by extinction, largely because of finning. The disappearance of sharks is setting off the collapse of ocean ecosystems as the loss of these apex predators disturbs the marine food web.
