She just looked at him before looking down at his hands, silent as can be when he spoke to her, internally rolling her eyes but listening to him nonetheless. But what he said- that was just the thing, she didn’t WANT to talk about anything, she wasn’t internalizing anything either, it was just a matter of getting better over time.
“I’m listening,” Lara finally replied, “but I’m not holding anything in Ari, I told you- I’m fine. I’m not…..I’m not scared of talking to you, I love you too just….I’m trying to get better. I just need time…” Time wasn’t going to fix the damage that happened to her, it wasn’t going to rekindle that fire that used to be in her eyes- she didn’t know what to do and she didn’t want to burden Ari with anything like this- but yet she knew she would trust him. Falling silent once more she just stood there and contemplated what she could do before finally resting her head on his shoulder as silent tears started falling down her face.
“…..It’s really gone…..” She whispered, “Ari, it-it’s really-….my arm’s gone…..”
There wasn’t a day that went by where Ari didn’t wish that he had been with her when it happened. If only he was there to protect her, to keep her safe... Just maybe she wouldn’t have ended up losing an arm. Lara didn’t deserve to go through any of this. As she spoke, he listened to her in silence, that nervous look never left his face. He knew that there wasn’t anything he could do to actually help her, so all that he could do was listen, if she had decided to finally speak up.
When he feels her rest her head on his shoulder, Ari leans against her, supporting her as she leans into him. Letting go of her hand, he gently wraps his arms around her and holds her carefully. Despite his scarred appearance, he was as gentle as he possibly could be as he cradled her in his arms. It was hard to hold back his own tears as she spoke up again, sighing and nodding his head. It pained him to see her like this, how much all she had gone through destroyed her. He wished he knew what to say, but he didn’t think that there were any words that he could say that would comfort her.
“Y...Yes....” His breath caught in his throat, just for a moment. “it is... I’m so, so sorry, Lara...”
