Dropping by on a Whim || Max & Siran
princemaxofkyrenia:
Max nodded in confirmation “One thing you will learn about me quite quickly is I’m always either drunk or drinking” he grinned as he took another swig. The news of Sirans sister passing away and the fact that he was now drinking both came as a shock to him and neither were things he knew how to handle, well the drinking could be overlooked as obviously Siran was a grown man capable of making his own decisions but surely he should say some words of condolence about his sister “I am sorry for your loss Siran, I cannot say in honesty that I understand it but I have a sister and if I ever lost her well…I’m just trying to say that as a brother I could possibly get it” and that was why Max never did emotional conversations, he was total and utter shit at them. Clearing his throat he was relieved that the other man didn’t linger on that topic and instead moved on to something he could easily talk about “Does it? I’ve lived in places like this since I was a baby so I suppose I’m just used to it. The palace back in Kyrenia is much the same, different architecture of course but just as big if not more so. There is much more colour in our palace though, not anything crazy mind you but certainly less bland than this.” He had a feeling that the boy wouldn’t be too interested in talking palace decor so he moved on “So tell me Siran in just what ways has this fair city corrupted you? do not be afraid to speak your true mind, I may live in a place that looks like it gawks at the mere mention of impropriety but I quite enjoy stories of that nature.”
Siran decided to put the topic of his sisters death away not to be talked about on such an occasion. He could always talk about that and Max seemed understanding, he didn’t say anything that unsettled Siran or made him feel alienated, but his sister wouldn’t want him wallowing.
Always either drunk or drinking? Siran didn’t know if that was even a good thing or a bad thing. Did Max try to boast with that fact, because Siran thought it might be quite sad or a serious problem. He’s heard of people who couldn’t stop drinking because of other problems, but again it wasn’t his life so he had no right to interfere. He put on a smile to interact with the other man mostly it was just his natural expression. Maybe it was a bit commiserative but he didn’t try to make Max feel like he pitied him, after all Max had the better life living in a palace and what not. “Well it seems like as a special treat today I will be joining you in drink.”, he raised his glass holding it out to the other man cheerful for now: “Let’s toast to that.”, and to whatever the future might hold for Siran he thought to himself. “So why are you always either drunk or drinking?”, Siran asked after all Max said to speak his true mind and not be afraid to do so. Sure he might not get a reply or a truthful one at that, but he could always ask. Uncharactaristically for Siran he seemed quite daring tonight, maybe it was the atmosphere of the city already influencing him maybe it was just that he didn’t want to waste the time in his precious life with niceties.
“Hmm in what ways has this city corrupted me?”, Siran repeated the question out loud after taking another sip of his drink and setting it back down. He thought about how to best reply to that question as he put his elbow on the table and rested his head on his hand. With his index finger he tapped his left temple indicating his thinking process. “For one it has made me start drinking, I’m also pretty full of myself now. So many people telling me how great I am, people applauding I think it’s starting to get to me that I’m actually really good. And I don’t need to be shy about my talent.”, definitely that, also other things but he wasn’t sure if he really wanted to talk about them to Max, who even if he wasn’t a stranger was still not someone Siran truly trusted with... anything important. “Hmm as for the other things let’s play a game I’ll tell you three things and two of them will be a lie. Only one will be true. You guess which one it is.”, yes a game that would be something that would lighten up the mood and would also give him an insight into what kind of person Max believed Siran turned out to be. “One: I killed someone last week. Two: I have never mated before. Three: I was married once.”, he gave these options trying to gauge for a reaction from Max as he took his drink in his hand once more with a daring and challenging smile etched on his face.
