Dear Senate Republicans:
You stated that your reason for blocking a war powers resolution that would limit President Trump from sending troops into combat in an undeclared war of whim was because you wanted to "support our troops".
You know what's a better way to support our troops? NOT SENDING THEM INTO COMBAT UNDECLARED AND UNDERPREPARED!
(And don't even get me started on stranding hundreds of thousands of non-combatant US citizens in a war zone with no warning whatsoever.)
You know how, on The Colbert Questionert segment of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Stephen always agrees with the person who selects Apples in the Apples Or Oranges question? He says it's because you can't dip an orange into peanut butter.
Unfortunately, Stephen is ignoring how you can dip orange pieces into chocolate, and chocolate rocks.
This climactic battle unfortunately ends in a question: The Reese's Conundrum.

I’ve decided I’m done with DEI. (Hold on, keep reading!) To replace it, I have a big IDEA:
Inclusion
Diversity
Equity and
Acceptance
They can do their damndest to get rid of DEI, but they will never squash every IDEA!
Dude, the enemy is not "the group of people who can afford a nice house and car and take vacations and eat well and have enough saved for retirement."
The enemy is the group of people who make it IMPOSSIBLE for EVERYONE to have a nice house and car and take vacations and eat well and save enough for retirement.
In the US, "poor people" USED to be the people who had not-so-nice houses and cars, or who had to rent instead of own. And it's not the dentist down the street who changed that; among others, it's the ultra-rich CEOs and shareholders who refuse to pay a living wage so they can live off your labor, and the exploitative corporations that buy up as much housing as they possibly can and charge exorbitant rent so you'll never be able to own your own home. It's the bosses who decide that "excess" food must be destroyed if it cannot be sold at a price that enriches shareholders. And it's the politicians who encourage and enable all of that.

Tariffs are paid by the people purchasing the imports (US residents, in this case). The countries who export to us are only affected (theoretically) by people buying fewer goods from them because they are more expensive.
However, since US-made things use imported components, this will include all consumer electronics, home appliances large and small, motor vehicles, toys, clothes, coffee, bananas, fuel...
Trump: I’mma gonna make prices lower putting on a tariff on Day 1!
Democrats: That’ll make prices spike!

Me: “You know, that old comfy chair also had an ottoman.”
Teen: “What happened to it?”
Me: “It died. Actually, no, it went to a farm upstate where people could gently rest their feet on it.”

Living in bad fiction
So, I need to put this in perspective:
The Republican Party, previously known for saying character matters, and experience matters, and law and order matters, just nominated an old convicted felon who has given top secret intel to unfriendly foreign powers, incited an insurrection, bungled a pandemic, been barred from running a charity or a business in New York, hired hundreds if not thousands of undocumented “illegals”, made the US a global laughingstock, and who happened to increase the deficit every year he was in office. He also oversaw a sizable increase in crime in the US.
The man has massive verbal diarrhea, haring off in six different directions in a single sentence, appealing to fear, and this is who they want.
The Democratic Party has a sitting old president who cut the deficit, cut insulin prices, oversaw 15 million new jobs, rising lower and middle class wages, rebuilt US relations in much of the world, increased both renewable and non-renewable energy production, got a good infrastructure bill in place, oversaw crime rates going down across the board. He’s been solid.
… and many in the Democratic Party want him to step down, despite tremendous successes, because he’s old, has occasional name aphasia and he has a lifelong stutter he mostly — but not always — keeps under control.
Can any of y’all explain how this is not a case of unbearably bad fiction?

Dear Trader Joe’s: You’re Fired
You know, I was really fond of your Trader Joe’s stores when I first shopped there. Lots of great stuff! Usually reasonable prices! Cool shirts! Generally happy workers!
But now the shine is off the rose. Some of your stuff is still great, sure, but most of it I can find elsewhere. Many of your prices are above what I’d pay elsewhere. The shirts are still decent, but nothing like the sea of Hawaiian-themed prints of the aughts.
That’s not enough to make me stop shopping at your stores.
Your employees are not so happy any more and are trying to unionize. They’ve encouraged shoppers like me to keep coming to your stores because they are invested in keeping the business going. That could keep me coming to the store.
In response, you have tried telling your employees that you’re still a great place to work. Their reply? “Nah, if you were we wouldn’t need to unionize.”
That’s not enough to make me stop working at your stores either, because your workers asked. Support the workers!
But now, in your attempts to stop your labor force from unionizing, you’re trying to undermine the National Labor Relations Act and the National Labor Relations Board in court, trying to get them declared unconstitutional.
Unions help raise all workers wages. The more unions and union employees are out there, the more the wages go up for both union and non-union employees.
You are actively trying to undermine the wages of not just your employees, but also many of your customers, myself included — just so you can sock another seven to eight figures in your bank account every year.
So, in short: it’s not me, it’s you. You’re trying to hurt me, my family and my community. That is more than enough to make me stop shopping at your stores, and plenty enough to make me want you to leave my community.
You’re fired, Trader Joe’s. Good luck finding another sucker to shop in your stores.
Oh, and Amazon and Muskrat? I haven’t forgotten you. Your walking papers are in process.
