some Erandur headcanons 💖
this is by no means a masterpost, just a few of my favourite thoughts about Husband Supreme :3
mostly about him generally, but a couple relate to his relationship with my OC Ember
His favourite time of day is sunrise. Not just for the colours, but for what it represents. The dawning of a new day feels like a fresh start, like renewal, like a chance to try again no matter what mistakes you made yesterday. It reminds him of the benevolence of Mara, and inspires him to do all he can to spread Her love and warmth throughout the world, despite the guilt he still feels about his past.
He's bisexual, with no gender preference. Fairly experienced, more with men than with women. Despite all the physical experience, he has NO actual relationship experience, as Ember's the only person he's ever been in love with.
He's a certified tea snob. Like, this guy could give Neloth a run for his money level of tea snob. Brewing tea is like a domestic extension of his skill as an alchemist, and he very much views it as a form of art. Making tea for others would be a sort of love language for him. (Ember was never much of a tea drinker before meeting Erandur, but now their morning tea time together is an essential and much loved part of her day.)
He's a recovering alcoholic. It's sadly all too common for people who have experienced trauma to end up with substance abuse issues, and Erandur is no exception. His drinking problem started after escaping Nightcaller Temple, as a way of dealing with the nightmares that plagued him and the trauma of losing the only life he'd known for so long, but it wasn't until being expelled from the Bard's College that he truly got lost in the sauce. Even after finding Mara, it took a long time and a lot of support from some of his fellow priests before he was able to give up the bottle entirely.
He doesn't know exactly how old he is. Between the lengthy sleep rituals performed by priests of Vaermina, birthdays simply not being celebrated in the cult, and being drunk for several decades, he's lost track of how long he's actually been alive.
Enrolling at the Bard's College was his first and only attempt at living anything resembling an honest life before finding Mara. He had discovered a love of music while wandering Skyrim, and was acutally turning out to be somewhat of a prodigy, but the discovery of his former affiliation with Vaermina ruined everything for him. I imagine this ordeal made him incredibly cynical about the world, and with no other viable options to support himself he turned to a life of crime, harbouring an attitude of "I might as well become the monster they think I am." His alchemical skills would have been highly sought after in Skyrim's criminal underworld, so I think of this period as his "mad scientist era."
