Some definitions:
Shahid (plural shouhada): it’s supposed to mean martyr in a religious sense BUT in Algeria we use it for freedom fighters who were killed as well as those who fought and died during the war because they were sick or wounded regardless of their religion. Moudjahid (plural moudjahidine): again it’s supposed to be a religious term to designate people who fight to protect Islam but in Algeria we use it for all freedom fighters who fought for the independence. Maurice Audin was not Muslim but he is considered to be a Moudjahid.
Allah yarham *…*: It means “May God have mercy on *…*. It’s the proper thing to say when talking about a Muslim who died. I will use it mostly when talking about the Shouhada here but that’s something you’re supposed to say for all Muslims who died.

The thing is that he is not just rich which is already bad but he is slowly getting the monopoly on a lot of medias . Written and tv press but also publishers… He is dangerous as fuck and uses these medias he bought to further and normalize his far right white supremacists ideas. And depending on next year’s elections it could get worst because right now he doesn’t have a complete monopoly thanks to the European laws that France is forced to follow but under a far right government these laws would be meaningless. For example he bought the Publisher Hachette which means that he now control 80% of school books. It didn’t have an effect on school books yet (at least to my knowledge) but under a far right government they would bring back the school books focusing on the “positive aspects of colonialism” among other things.
Now that man own Canal+ (tv network that is also the biggest sponsor of French cinema) since 2014. And he is on the way to own UGC (biggest movie theater franchises of France) totally by 2028. Which means that he would have a monopoly on the French movie industry and choose what is made and what isn’t and what is distributed and what isn’t. French celebrities and people in the movie industry finally woke up and 600 of them signed a column on Liberation to warn against Bollore’s monopoly saying that we must oppose him.
Canal+ reacted by saying that they simply will never work with people who signed this column which means that the people who signed were virtually fired from ever working in the French movie industry.
Except that Canal+ reaction is so close to censorship that it’s getting more people to sign the column as a protest and it’s getting international.
But what’s interesting is that the Cannes Film Festival ended in May 23. 6 out of the 7 French movie competing for the biggest prize of the festival had at least one person who signed the column involved in the making of said movie. The supreme irony is that the one French movie that was nominated while not having anyone who signed involved in the making of the movie is a movie about Jean Moulin a French resistant who fought the Nazis.
The movie about resisting and fighting against Nazis against the far right and fascism is the one movie where none of the people involved thought it would be a good idea to do the bare minimum and sign a column against the far right and fascism.
Now that the Flotilla members have been released and with those photos of brutal physical abuse and sexual assault, can we admit that there is no line they wouldn't cross. The children managed to get to safety when one of the neighbors (a black woman) heard them screaming and opened her door to take them to safety.
That man is known to be a racist piece of shit in the neighborhood. He kept on harassing an Arab neighbor until she moved because of him. The black woman who opened her door to the kids so they would be safe was called a “baboon” by the white piece of shit multiple times beforehand and he also attacked her 8 years old son by throwing sticks at the child. The day before the man shot the kids that same black woman went to the cops to report his racism and she was told to “come back later” because they “didn’t have the workforce to take into account her complaints”. That man was also seen hitting a 3 years old Arab child with a stick. When a neighbor saw him and tried to stop him he insulted her because of her race. He removed a PUBLIC bench in the neighborhood because I quote him “too many Arabs and Blacks sit on it”.
A couple days before attacking the kids with his riffle the man himself made a fucking video he posted in which he says “I’m racist and I’m proud of being racist. I saw it high and loud.”
The Black woman as well as an other woman (she is the aunt of the child the racist managed to hit so she is either Black or Arab maybe both) say that they reported him multiple times but keep on being ignored…
On her end the mayor denies having been made aware of the issues beforehand but icing on the cake she says “I don’t know if that man insults colored people more than White people. For me he is complicated with everyone.” So basically the mayor and the cops are trying to deny the racism because maybe he insulted white people too at some point. And shooting Arab and Black kids is “complicated” (I guess that’s the new favorite word when supremacists attack Arab kids “complicated” just like Palestine.)
The cops are claiming that none of the victims or their parents mentioned racism and the use of slurs and insults.
Meanwhile the father of one of the victims (the child who has been shot) is saying that he did mention the insults and the racism and that the cops deliberately kept it out of the report. And that the cops told him “no need to mention it specifically as the man is already known to be racist”. After the story got out in the media yesterday the father was called back by the police to take into account the racist insults targeting the children.
One of the mother in the neighborhood also said “Here, everyone knows each other, likes each other, and the children play together. I'm very worried. Racism has always existed. But now it's blatant. And what's frightening me is that the children don't really realize it; they laugh when this man insults them. They got used to it. But it's serious.”
Just a heads up, the only child (he didn’t manage to hit any other child despite trying) who was shot is alive and it wasn’t a life threatening wound. But he is traumatized and his aunt explained that he even blamed himself thinking he had done something wrong. We also now know that the child he managed to hit is North African/Arab.
Regarding these Europeans: I want to make a special mention for the French ones who claim to be leftists and who were saying “Black Lives Matters” after George Floyd was killed but when we talk about police violence in France they start finding excuses. “BLM” in their bios and mouth for George Floyd because it only questioned the systemic racism and police violence in the US meanwhile in France they are rehabilitating politically Lionel de Villepin the guy who was prime minister in 2005 when Zyed (17 years old Arab kid) and Bouna (15 years old Black kid) died of an electrocution because of the cops. They say “BLM” for the US but they cheer for the guy who lied about Zyed and Bouna being thieves to try and justify why the cops runned after them for no reasons, the same guy who’s government put in place the “Etat d’Urgence” (that was originally created to repress Algerians during the war of liberation) to repress the protests in the low income neighborhoods after Zyed and Bouna were killed. On her end the mayor denies having been made aware of the issues beforehand but icing on the cake she says “I don’t know if that man insults colored people more than White people. For me he is complicated with everyone.” So basically the mayor and the cops are trying to deny the racism because maybe he insulted white people too at some point. And shooting Arab and Black kids is “complicated” (I guess that’s the new favorite word when supremacists attack Arab kids “complicated” just like Palestine.)
The cops are claiming that none of the victims or their parents mentioned racism and the use of slurs and insults.
Meanwhile the father of one of the victims (the child who has been shot) is saying that he did mention the insults and the racism and that the cops deliberately kept it out of the report. And that the cops told him “no need to mention it specifically as the man is already known to be racist”. After the story got out in the media yesterday the father was called back by the police to take into account the racist insults targeting the children.
One of the mother in the neighborhood also said “Here, everyone knows each other, likes each other, and the children play together. I'm very worried. Racism has always existed. But now it's blatant. And what's frightening me is that the children don't really realize it; they laugh when this man insults them. They got used to it. But it's serious.”
Just a heads up, the only child (he didn’t manage to hit any other child despite trying) who was shot is alive and it wasn’t a life threatening wound. But he is traumatized and his aunt explained that he even blamed himself thinking he had done something wrong. We also now know that the child he managed to hit is North African/Arab.

I just blocked them and didn’t plan on ever reacting to it. I didn’t even plan to reply to this anon ask. But I just love how they are “afraid of harassment” meanwhile I’m the one who has been getting anon hate in my asks since they made their post. The Islamophobia and the anti Arab racism against an Algerian in the anon asks I am getting is really something when you take into account that it’s coming from people who claim that Zionism is an “indigenous rights and decolonial movement”.
Anyway not going to give them more attention than that and thanks for the heads up!
We need a word for mansplaining but for when settlers/descendants of settlers try to explain what was colonialism “really like” to colonized people and their descendants.
