How about Daigo for the character ask? :D
character: hate them | don’t really care | like them | LOVE them | THEY ARE MY PRECIOUS
Dojima Daigo is a good and precious son and we do not deserve him. Daigo has never done anything wrong in his life, I agree with every decision he’s ever made and I love him. God, we don’t fucking deserve him.
ship with: Mine Yoshitaka! Look, I know that in fanon Daigo has cuter, well, at least more stable boyfriends (I’m sorry, Ryuji is a hot piece of ass and Shinada is a fuzzy apricot of adorable, but Mine’s good looks are Razor Sharp. Will cut a bitch with his cheekbones and tailored suit.), but my life and soul for DaiMine.
Mine experienced one (1) whole human emotion and it was love for Daigo and went FUCKING BALLISTIC. I’m sorry, but I have a THING for that kind of imprinting shit. Mine was a fucking well oiled machine, cold numbers and rock hard muscle all the way down. And then he sees Daigo, brilliant, kind, powerful Daigo and Mine Loses It. I am a slut for that shit. Daigo is just this genuinely good person who looks at Mine and isn’t afraid, isn’t disgusted, he’s intrigued, he’s charmed even, by Mine’s cold contempt for others and yet desperate grasping for meaning. It’s cute, the way he doesn’t understand that meaning is derived from relationships and that’s why he feels so empty, he doesn’t have any. Daigo can’t help but reach out to him. It’s funny, really, to see someone so smart be so stupid. And Mine... melts, at a kind word, at the barest of effort. All Daigo had to do was not be afraid and Mine’s open as a book. How could he not fall in love with that? Hopeless robot, utterly undone at a look. How could you not love that?
(Not to mention how HARD I am for the fact that the ENTIRE PLOT OF GAME 3 turns on a fucking dime over them. I LOVE that I didn’t see it coming AT ALL and when it happened it 1000% made sense. Jesus, that was FANTASTIC. Mine screaming that he was in love with Daigo the whole time is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen and game 3 is fucking great. Almost redeemed that fucking golf minigame. Oh god the golf minigame... okay, maybe redeemed is too strong a word...)
brotp: Majima probs, maybe Akiyama. Defs Ryuji, eventually. It would take a second for the antagonism to cool, but I think they could be good friends later. Kiryu is his Dad and while he’s pretty bro with Kiryu, he’s still Dad. His real dad. The man he looks to when everything his wrong. And it’s hard to be bros, equals, with someone you admire and look up to so much.
Majima’s sort of weirdly placed because he is of Kiryu’s generation, not Daigo’s, but Majima refuses to be a mentor the way Kiryu is. Oh, he’s happy to keep an eye on Daigo and nudge him in the right direction, but he’s not taking on parenting duties, he can’t. He’s Daigo’s right hand, an enforcer and an advisor, but not a superior, never that. Majima will argue with him if he thinks he’s wrong, but won’t insist that he knows best, and will follow orders even if he thinks they’re wrong. Majima has no wish to be in charge and doesn’t have the emotional capacity to parent Daigo like that. He’s far too aware that Daigo is Kiryu’s kid, not his. And besides, Majima has his own family to tutor and bring up right. So he’s bros with Daigo, gives him a word and an ear when he needs it, and is always there when Daigo has a tough call to make and can’t do it alone. Majima is a true bro.
general opinions: I’m really sad that Daigo isn’t given more weight in the games. I REALLY love what we do with him in game 4, I love how he fucks up, I love that his decisions entirely make sense. I wish we talked more about how Kiryu running off to Okinawa leaves Daigo in a very vulnerable position. I wish we talked more about how Kiryu abandoned his son with the responsibilities he refused to take. I wish we talked more about how they ARE Kiryu’s responsibilities and Daigo is taking on shit that he shouldn’t have had to. And doing a GREAT fucking job. Daigo is much wiser than his years and an incredibly clever and cunning chairman. He’s so fucking competent and that’s so wonderful to see in, as someone once put it, a series that is built on the backs of himbos. It just would be nice if the relationship between Kiryu and Daigo wasn’t so strained, it’d be nice if the games let them talk about all Kiryu owes him and to let Kiryu be proud of him, this boy who’s been through hell, but has tried so hard to live up to what his dad wanted him to be. And he did. I love Dojima Daigo.
