the present state of queer punk relies heavily on a value aesthetic of whiteness and white beauty standards that centers cis people and CAFAB trans people. there are always aliens to the value: trans women, fat people, people of color. i don’t see hope trying to make it better, queer scenes have proven time and time again that they’re extremely efficient at recuperation, and the violence that fat people and trans women and people of color will face will become unnamable and microaggressive but still incredibly affective; you can see the mechanics of liberalism constantly at work in queer punk scenes, and in brilliant ways. i’ve been alienated by queerness and by punk for as long as i’ve known it, and i don’t want to break into it (by fitting enough of the molds well; by reproducing it well enough; by being “one of the good trans women”) without opening the floodgates. i just want to immanentize the baeddel eschaton.

also can we talk about how the punk aesthetic is totally inaccessible to fat folks because it’s predicated on having a body that isn’t inherently devalued and that’s why people then are able to demarcate themselves as poor/apathetic/dirty in their dress because people aren’t already scripting those things onto their bodies and i have a body whose interpretation will always actively work against me and so i am already at a disadvantage when getting dressed, i have to strategically dress to work against everything people are already assuming about me, i don’t have the capital to leave my house unbathed in dirty and torn clothes (or even looking unbathed in close that look dirty) because it will make my daily interactions 1,000x more bullshit than they already are and like ya good for you if you’re already starting out on a level playing field and can make those conscious decisions whether u wanna be treated like a person or not wow ya so impressed so subversive wow
