Be the person Sister Julienne believes you can be
She knows.
Sr H: We have orphans to care for and expectant mothers - any one of whom could have caught TB. And out in the street there are prostitutes and addicts who will look to us for help.
Sr J: I know there are. But we will pray…and we will wait to see what love can do.

Series 1, Episode 1
Sr J: Charity is another word for love. So often I’ve had to trust in God and say, ‘Let us see what love can do’.
Series 12, Ep 5

Sr J: This is a mercy mission. It’s also a mercy dash and we’ll be home soon. By the time we all gather here again, we will have left our friends in Hong Kong in a place of hope and of comfort and of joy. Thank you, all of your, for helping us to help them.

S8 is still hard to watch with the abortion stories and the pain many of the characters go through. Especially late in the series when Valerie learns that her Gran has been doing unsafe abortions for decades, that is a Wham-episode if there ever has been one.
and in that same episode and the one after we see several excellent examples of the biggest strength this show has and what we as viewers can take from it. For every crisis, every bad thing that happens, there will be those hit the hardest, and those a little less directly involved. What the Nonnatuns often successfully do is hold up the person most affected and most fragile by directing their care and attention towards them and giving strength. They listen and they take the time to be there until the worst is over, until the path becomes clearer. Like Sister Julienne by accompanying Valerie to the court session because the young nurse will have to testify.
It is the spirit at the core of the show and over all the seasons all of the characters have been in need of support at one time or another. Not all the time we see the happy ending on screen, sometimes a character leaves and tries to rebuild their live elsewhere. But the compassion they experience is still the thing that gives them hope for a better day.
and this is something that - on occasion - we can do in our own lives.

Sister Julienne - undoubtedly remembering what happened with Sister Mary Cynthia and determined it won’t happen again.
Sr C: I’m not sure what my interpretation is. In fact the only thing I am sure of at the moment is that I’m thinking and learning and wondering all the time, without managing to be very sure of anything very much. Is that permitted?
Sr J: We journey in faith. We must permit all doubt - for it only through doubt that we can find its opposite.

What was you're reaction of sister Julienne cheekines? Like when she eats pudding to get her sister home season 2 episode 5 🤣
Sooo…I love when we see this side of Sister Julienne! We know she carries a lot of responsibility and is dependable, reliable and compassionate to all the mothers, nurses and other nuns. I think it’s great that we get to see her more relaxed side as well and it makes her a much more fully rounded character who we as the audience can relate to.
The first sign of this was definitely S1 Ep2 with the aquarium comment to Sr E.
But I do feel like we get quite a few moments where you see that twinkle in her eye for a cheeky comment. Even in the most recent series when she says to Trixie about being allowed to deliver babies (no spoilers so I’ll leave it there).
Basically yes - give me all the Sr Julienne humour, quips and wit you can muster!
Holding Closer
Some Shulienne (and Angela+Julienne; what shall we call that?) based off the questions that scared me most as a child. I’ve been working on a long piece for the past several weeks, and it was such a relief to stop and write this quickly.

Also, it just struck me. Shelagh says ‘you should be giving me away’.
Maybe Sister Julienne says no on some level because she is NOT giving her away…she is not going anywhere.
