When we arrived at the trailhead at 6PM, our ideal campground was 10 miles and several thousand vertical feet away. Neither of us planned on going the whole way that night but as we reached Cut Throat Pass and the half way point the sun had set, the full moon had risen and we were feeling adventurous. The night was so bright that we could follow the trail unaided. We fumbled into camp at 11 that night and awoke the next morning in one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen.

I’ve done a fair bit of hiking at night, but never anything like that night. It’s an experience I won’t soon forget.
