She is just really bored.
âIs there anything I can do to help? I have to work tonight. But today Iâm free.â
âCanât you skip work momma? And just spend all day and night with me?â
âI â i donât know if I can. I can see what I can do, if not, this weekend? Camryn and her daughter may be over too if youâre okay with that.â
âThatâs all I can ask for. I have missed you alot this week. And I am totally fine with Camryn and her daughter coming over.â
âJust let me see what I can do. Until then, is there anything you need? Are you hungry?â
âOkayâŠno thanks momma I am good! No food needed. I had a piece of toast today.â
Tilting her head to the side slightly concerned. âIs everything okay Sof? Itâs not like you to turn down food.â
Sofia looked at her momma. âUh yeah. Everything is fine! Just not hungry!â she said and shrugged her shoulders.
Concerned with the way she was acting Arizona moves closer and combs a strand of hair from Sofiaâs face and combs it behind her ear. âYou know you can talk to me right? What is going on?â
Sofia cuddled up to Arizona. âNothingâŠI am just not feeling well. I canât really explain it! But it will pass!â she told her and smiled a little.
Arizona wrapped her arm around Sofia and pulled her even closer and pressed a soft kiss to the top of her head.
âWhat do you mean you canât explain it. What is going on Sof? Just â you know you can tell me anything right?â
âDo you know the feeling that you have when you just donât feel like yourself? When you donât know who you are?â She asked and looked at her momma.
Hoping she knew what she meant. But it wasnât so easy to explain. It was basically an identity crisis.
Arizona did know that feeling. After she was a plane crash and bad to learn everything again. But she was more concerned with Sofia. She was too young to be having these feelings.
âI did when I was in the plane crash. I had to find myself again. Where is all this coming from for you? What happened?â
Sofia was playing with her fingers. Shrugging her shoulders. âI donât know.â the young girl replied.
She looked at her momma before speaking up again . âWhen did you know you were gay?â she wanted to know.
Arizona and Callie may not be together anymore, but the way her daughter fidgets when there is something on her mind reminds her so much of Callie. Everything she has been doing reminds her of Callie in so many ways. But taken back by her question, Arizona wasnât sure how she could answer.
âI â well, I was older then you. But I never had boyfriends. Your grandma and grandpa sort of knew, but your uncle Tim, he was the first person I actually told. But I was younger then your momma if thatâs what youâre asking.â
Was she likes Callie? Yes in many ways! But also like Arizona. And there also was some of Markâs attitude in her personality.
She nodded her head gently. âAnd how did you find out? Like what does it feel like?â The young girl asked.
Sofia was super confused. Something happened at school that made her question if she might like girls. Some kids just know even at a young age.
Arizona wasnât sure she was ready for this conversation with Sofia. Sure, she can talk to her about everything but this was something she wasnât prepared for if she was being honest.
âI â well, it is different for everyone Sof. Thereâs no right or wrong way. Just, sometimes you know and sometimes you have to question whether or not it is right. I canât answer that for you, as my experience was different from your mommaâs and hers was different from mine. So want to tell me what all this is about?â
With nothing but concern in her eyes and Arizona wanting Sofia to be able to talk to her without getting embarrassed and not wanting to talk at all.
Sofia wasnât planning on having the conversation either. But she had two queer parents. So who was better to ask that question?
She didnât know anyone else that could answer that question.
The young girl rubbed the back of her neck. âAt soccer practiceâŠthere is this girl named MiaâŠshe said I have a sweet smile. It made me really happy but also feel weird in a way.â She replied, trying yo describe her feelings as good as possible. But it wasnât so easy.
Listening to Sofia carefully wanting to help the best she can, but she figured she had a few years until this conversation being she wasnât too old yet. But Arizona knew having a child this conversation was bound to come up.
âWell, that can be all types of things. I just â I donât know what you mean by weird Sof. Weird can mean all kinds of things. But youâre enjoying soccer yeah? And sheâs one of your friends yeah? Then, if thatâs the case, just donât think nothing of it too much. But if something else happens and it feels some type of way, then thatâs when you think and ask questions more.â
Arizona just didnât know she was ready for this conversation. She wasnât ready for Sofia to grow up and grow past needing her at this point: so maybe it was her who wanted to put the conversation off.
Sofia could tell that her momma wasnât to happy about the conversation. And she figured it was cause Arizona and Callie both didnât handle the fact very well that Sofia was growing up.
âYes I love soccer! And she is my friend! It was a nice feeling! Not bad! Thatâs all I know! And maybe itâs nothing! I am just overthinking sometimes. Itâs what I do.â She replied and then just smiled slightly. âWe donât have to talk about it! Itâs totally fine.â The young girl didnât want to make her momma feel weird about it.
Arizona really didn't know what to tell Sofia with the questions she has asked. maybe it was because she wasn't ready for Sofia to grow up, or it was because she just wasn't ready to lose her little girl that she had now. The one who played with Janaâs daughter and just was so innocent. Maybe that is what Arizona misses more then anything at this point. But soccer was a great outlet for Sofia with everything that had went on.
âyouâre just like your momma. Overthinking all the time. But just enjoy soccer. That is all I want for you Sof. I want the best for you, that everything I do, it is for you. Just, don't overthink things and just allow things to happen the way they are supposed to. Soccer should be your priority as you're young and I do everything else okay? Let me do the overthinking.â
Sofia looked at her momma and just nodded her head. Maybe just taking things like they are and just enjoying soccer was the best advice right now.
âIt is probably a good idea! To just enjoy soccer and maybe going with the flow! Thatâs what people say right?â She replied and smiled softly.
The raven haired girl hugged her momma. She chuckled a bit. âYeah I guess I am like mami when it comes to overthinking things!â The young girl admitted, shrugging her shoulders a bit.
It was officially, Sofia was too smart for her own good. Something Arizona expected but not wanting to happen. She knew way too much and seen way too much as well as a kid and Arizona just wanted to make sure she was good. Going with the flow, that is something Arizona does more times then not. But nodding her head, she was just good with Sofia focusing on everything that was going on and just worry about herself and soccer since those are things that she can control and Arizona can help.
"Just those are the things you can control for the most part. Going with the flow is something a lot of people do and I think you will learn to do it as you get older and just worry about yourself. your mom and I will be there for you." She meant that, they may not be together, but they are Sofia's mothers first and that is all that matters.
But the older she gets the more she reminds Arizona of Callie. It was not hard to see everything Callie did or said something Sofia would say or do. It wasn't bad just it reminded her so much of her. "Oh trust me, you are more like her then you think. Which isn't a bad thing at all. Your mom is smart. And she is funny. So you have that going for you." Winking at Sofia.
Sofia picked up on a lot of things Callie did. People who knew Mark also said she is like him in some ways. But she also had some things from Arizona. The raven haired girl was basically the perfect mix of all three of her parents.
âWe talked so much about soccer and my feelings that we almost forgot I have dance soon!â She Answered after checking her watch. Smiling a bit. âNext weekend we have a dance competition! I am really excited for that! Will you be there?â the young girl asked .
Nodding her head. There were things Arizona made time for and anything Sofia did she made time for. That was one thing she had always tried to do. She wasnât going to miss this for anything either. She knew Sofia has been working hard for this completion and she wasnât going to miss seeing her doing what she loved.
âOf course Iâll be there, I wouldnât miss it for the world, you know that right? Everything you do, Iâll be there.â This was the truth. Arizona was all about seeing Sofia succeed then not. And she knew she was more then capable of accomplishing anything she wanted to do. A smile pulled at Arizonaâs face. She didnât know a lot of things but one thing she did was that Sofia was her world and she would do anything for her.
Sofia knew she was pretty lucky to have such amazing moms that always tried to be there when she had a sports event or whatever else she wa a involved with. They really loved her alot and she loved them right back.
âThank you momma! It means a lot that you will be there! And it always makes me perform better when you are there! Cause I want to make you proud. And I hope I do make you and mami proud of me!â She answered. Looking at Arizona.
âI will get ready for dance class okay? And than we can make our way over there?â She suggested cause she checked the clock on the wall that said they only had 25 minutes left.
Arizona knew it wasnât always the easiest when it came to Sofia and trying to get Callie and her together for something. But it was all about trying for their daughter. If anything, Arizona did her best to be there and this one she wouldnât miss for the world, just like the rest of them.
âOf course Iâll be there. Youâre the most important person in my life Sof. I wouldnât miss it for anything. No matter what you do, Iâm proud. Youâre amazing and donât ever think otherwise okay? Youâre going to be awesome and everyone will see youâre trying your hardest.â
A smile was seen on Arizonaâs face as she nodded her head and let Sofia go and get ready and she did the same thing. They were running close with time and Arizona was one who didnât want to be late, so she tried her hardest to really not make Sofia late because then it would put Arizona in a mood.
Sofia was thankful for her momma. Always making time for her. And Callie tried as well. Her moms both tried but getting them both together sure was a task.
âI love you momma! Thanks for making me feel special!â The young girl replied. She than grabbed her stuff.
Making her way to the car, a smile on her face. She tried hard to make them proud. Cause they tried hard for her to make things work. Even though they are not together anymore and most likely wonât get back together. Which took a while to accept.
Arizona tried to make Sofia happy. She knew this was difficult with both Callie and Arizona dating again. But not one another. But one thing was for sure, she would always make sure that Sofia kept feeling the way she did now. Happy. Thatâs all Arizona wanted for her.
âOf course. Youâll always be special, I donât want you to ever forget that. Youâre my girl. Always.â A dimpled smile pulled at Arizonaâs face and she was just glad that Sofia was happy. Wanting to make today special, she would do anything that Sofia wants to do.
Making her way out to the car behind Sofia, Arizona hopes today was just what Sofia needed. She knows she works a lot but she tried. Unlocking the door and walking to the front seat seeing that Sofia can get herself in. âMake sure you buckle up for me Sof.â
Arizona and Callie both did a great job at being there for Sofia. And the young girl appreciated that. They always tried to work together when it came to Sofia, even though they werenât togther anymore.
âI wonât forget it! You and mami always tell me how special I am to the two of you! Itâs such a mom thing to say!â She told her blonde mother with a soft giggle escaping her lips.
Sofia buckled herself up and then let out a soft sigh. âI might want to try a new sport ,momma.â She admitted to her.
Arizona was one of those women who didnât think she wanted a child until she heard Sofiaâs heartbeat and thatâs when she knew she wanted this. Just seeing their little girl grow, and seeing the person she was becoming was more then Arizona could ask for. Sure, Callie and her were no longer together and Sofia was getting to know Jana and her daughter, it was all in time when Sofia realizes they were better co-parents then together at this stage of their life.
âWell, newsflash Sof, we are your moms, so get used to hearing it.â A laugh was heard from Arizona and she gets her self situated in the car and she has has seatbelt on and hears Sofiaâs clicks before she puts the car into reverse and she pulls from the driveway and then puts the car into drive to head towards where they were going.
Looking through the rear view mirror hearing Sofia, Arizona raised her eyebrows and knew Sofia was already doing a lot but thatâs one thing Callie and her has always done was cater to her talents. âWhat sport were you wanting to try? Iâll have to talk to Callie, but Iâm sure sheâll be okay with it, as long as itâs reasonable as well.â
Oh how thankful the young girl was to have two amazing moms, even through they were no longer together. She was most likely gonna get a new step parent at some point and step siblings. She always wanted a sibling so this for sure wasnât the worst thing that could have happened.
âOkay thatâs fair! I guess every mom is like that! I just get the double amount cause I got two moms!â She said and grinned again.
The young girl stayed quiet for a moment and then looked back to her momma. âI was uh thinking about taking karate lessons! And well uh golfingâŠso two new sports! I am super interested in both to be honest! And I hope you and mami are on board with it.â Sofia Answered and was biting down on her bottom lip.
She was glad Sofia finally understood why Callie and Arizona were no longer together. They were just better at co-parenting. At least they have worked on that, and can talk about things more then before. Before it was just emails and text, never phone calls, but now they are able to hold conversations and that alone made it better for Sofia. Knowing both of her mothers love her. Hearing her response, she knew she would see it as a good thing and a small laugh was heard from Arizona.
âExactly that, double the love because you have two moms. Nothing wrong with that right? I know you are getting older, but youâll always be our little girl regardless of your age.â She wanted Sofia to know that, and knowing as she is getting older, sheâll want more time alone, and Arizona takes what she can right now and same with Callie for the most part.
Hearing Karate, she knew that would be a debate for Callie, being she fixes bones and has been with kids who have gotten hurt doing that. âI donât know if Callie will be on board with karate. She fixes bones and has seen it all. Golf, that wonât be a problem, just the other, donât think it will be as easy to say yes Sof. You can talk to her, but I donât know how well that will go over for you.â Arizona hated saying no, but karate was just one of those things where she couldnât go behind Callieâs back on.
It sure took a while for Sofia to accept the fact that her parents were getting a divorce but she did realize that the two were better off without one another.
And weirdly enough they had more time for her now. So she couldnât really complain. She was just happy to have two loving moms.
âNo nothing wrong with that at all! Itâs something I am super excited about! I am pretty lucky.â She answered with a soft smile.
She knew it wouldnât be easy to convince her mami to let her do karate. But she was still thinking it was worth a try. âI will talk to her tonight on the phone if thatâs okay! And I am glad we can at least agree on golf.â
It has taken Arizona time to get used to being without Callie as she has taken up five years of her life and a life like that doesnât just go away. With Jana though, thing were easy, and she accepted Sofia and Arizona accepted her daughter and that alone made it so kin easier. Plus, Callie had someone and they got along so much better for the sake of Sofia at this point. She was happy and that is all that mattered.
âIâm glad you said that or I was going to have to worry you werenât too thrilled with the fact her and I love you more then life itself and we would do anything for you. You should know that, no matter your age, weâll do anything for you.â She has to reassure Sofia, no matter what goes on with the two of them, Callie and her will always put Sofia above all of that.
âTonight you can call her. Sheâll be waiting for you call. Iâll text her here in a few and see when sheâs off. Just donât get upset if she says no. We are just looking out for you. You do so much now and donât want to overdue it either. So, just let her explain it she says no okay?â
Sofia had missed her moms being together the first few months after they ended things. And it was hard on her. Now she is pretty happy with how things were. It was so much better. And the fact that her moms actually managed to talk with one another when it was about her, something the young girl really appreciated.
âI thought it was obvious that I liked having you two as my parents. I have a hoodie that says âI love my two momsâ and a pin for my backpack that says the same. I am proud to be your kid and I am happy that you two love me no matter what!â The young girl told her momma and giggled softly.
Sofia sighed softly but nodded her head in agreement. âYes i promise you momma that if mami says no I wonât argue with her about it and accept her decision!â She answered.
Was Arizona expecting to bounce Sofia from house to house? She wasnât, but it was in her best interest to get the best of her two mothers and she was getting just that. She does all these things and they provide the best for her. They do their best to be there for everything big in Sofiaâs life, and before they could never do that. Now Callie had someone and Arizona was seeing someone and it was easier than before.
âI just donât want you to ever think what happened had to do with you; when it didnât. Your mom and I just needed to not be together to give you the best we can. And I think we do pretty well considering everything else that has went on.â Arizona was being honest, it could be a lot worst and it could be where they couldnât even get into the same place to watch Sofia, but they manage and thatâs all she wanted for her daughter.
âGood, I know it isnât fun hearing no, but you already do so much, and we know whatâs best for you okay?â Just as she said that, she pulled into the parking lot of the dance center that Sofia goes to, and she pulls into the nearest parking spot not wanting to do the handicapped one if she didnât have to, and she puts the car in park and looks back at the younger brunette who reminds her so much of Callie.
âAre you ready? You have about ten minutes to get warmed up before you start your dance rehearsal. So make sure you used everything Sof.â
Sofia didnât expect to be bounced around either, that was never on her mind before her moms broke up. But when it became a routine in her life she learned to enjoy it. She had two homes. Which meant two rooms, which was pretty cool, trying to see the good things in stuff like this.
âI never thought that it was my fault and I wonât ever think that! Because you never gave me a reason to think that! And I agree you two do a pretty amazing job! I am proud of the two of you for how great you are!â She said.
Sofia took off her seatbelt when they parked in front of the dance studio. âYes momma I will totally warm up and I am ready! By the way you are right! Hearing no is never any fun. But I donât want to argue over a sport!â
Just wanting to make sure Sofia was happy and realize she was doing okay, and getting used to the fact her parents arenât together and they arenât really going to get back together, itâs all about just getting into a routine and sticking with it, and thatâs exactly what they have done. Providing Sofia with the best and giving her best opportunity for things when they can. She just hoped she didnât think it was her fault they werenât together.
Unbuckling herself and opening the driver side of the car and starting to step out hoping Sofia does what she says she will do. Grabbing her purse and Arizona looks in the backseat. âMake sure you grab your bag Sof, I donât want to have to come back outside and grab it. You have a change of clothes in there for after dance. And wherever your momma decides is what we will do. I vote no on karate but she fixes bones and sheâll be able to say whether or not.â
As Arizona was done, she shut her door and waited for Sofia to join her so she could lock the door and go in and endure these parents talks endlessly about how their kid will be the best dancer when Arizona is just there to be a mother and watch her child do what she enjoys more then anything else in the world. Thatâs what itâs about for her. Not really caring what Sofia does with it as she gets older, just about what he enjoys right now.
Sofia enjoyed having two homes. It was all good in her eyes. Everything seems to be working out pretty well. They all were happy do this was the way for them to handle it.
The young girl nodded her head in agreement and grabbed her bag from the car, looking at her momma. âGot my bag.â She stated and went to walk over to Arizona. âI sure am gonna need that change of clothes after dance class! So thank you momma!â She replied, offering her a small smile.
âIf you are already saying no I donât have to ask mami about it! I mean you both should be comfortable with it, right?â She answered. She didnât want them to end up arguing over this so she would rather forget about it.
The young girl walked over to some of her friends so they could warm up together.
Watching as Sofia grabs her bag, she wanted to make sure she had some sense of normalcy and able to do things on her own and make sure she had everything she needed before doing things. Maybe that was Arizonaâs type-a personality coming through but it was something she couldnât help. She knew being prepared was better than nothing at this point. She wanted Sofia to know thinking ahead was better which was why she packed her a changed of clothes when she washed her dance clothes.
âI know big girl, thatâs why I packed you some clothes. And since after today, you have a few more days off from dance, Iâll wash your clothes okay? And make sure they are dried appropriately so you can have them for your competition you have coming up soon.â A smile pulled at Arizonaâs face as she shut her door and locked the door as Sofia scrambled out of the car with her bag.
âIâm not saying not, just I donât think I can handle you doing it. Your mamma work with bones and knows what sports like that can do. So itâs all what we agree on. I would prefer you not to, but I donât get the final say. So, itâs all what we both think and what we can come up with.â She didnât want to say yes or no, but she wasnât sure she wanted Sofia to do karate. She has seen some things and so has Callie, so that might be the deciding factor for them.
Holding the door open for Sofia and allowing her to go over to her friends, Arizona takes a seat with the rest of the mothers and waits for practice to start and finish.
Sofia was Gonna have a lot to talk about with her friends, which she did while warming up. The karate thing stuck into her head.
She was almost 100% sure her mami was not gonna say yes. Cause karate indeed wasnât for the weak. A lot of broken bones and other injuries could happen. So she wasnât even sure she should tell her mami and just forget about it.
The dance class soon started and Sofia was very focused on it. Forgetting about what was on her mind earlier. She always worked the hardest and wanted to do her best.
The class took 45 minutes. When it was over sofia quickly went to change her clothes, talking with her friends again.
It took her five minutes before she walked sober to Arizona. âMomma? I am ready to leave now and I am kinda hungry!â The young girl admitted. âCan we grab some food? I am craving subway.â She told her and smiled a little. âI think we also should talk about the karate thing again.â
Arizona was watching Sofia as she talked to her friends with a lot of animated movements and she couldnât help but laugh, she didnât know what she was talking about, but it was something important for the most part it seemed. But as time went on, the kids were on the floor and they were doing their routine more then once for the most part. They had to get it perfect and Sofia was always smooth with her movements and thatâs exactly what she was doing now, smoother as she kept dancing.
Dance class was over and Arizona looked at the time and she didnât want to cook when she got home so she hoped Sofia would let her know just what she was wanting before leaving here. With the girls walking back and Sofia was now standing in front of her, she couldnât help but laugh as leave it to her for the fact she wanted food and Arizona was just thinking what they were going to do. Nodding her head and she let a smile pull at her face.
âIf thatâs what you want for dinner then we will stop there. I was thinking what we shouldâve grabbed since it was too late for me to cook. So glad you know what you wanted.â Winking at Sofia before grabbing her bag and she stood up and nodded her head. âWe donât have to talk about it right now Sof. We can wait, eat and then see if it comes up okay? Just, letâs get going and then we will find time to talk. Make sure you have everything.â
The time passed so quickly. It was always like that with dance class. Sofia was someone who was really focused. So the warming up was always for fun with her friends but when class would start she was in a serious mood. Aiming for perfection.
Arizona and Sofia both loved food. And they both enjoyed eating at restaurants or get takeaway to eat at home. Sometimes they would cook together. But only when they didnât have such busy days. âOkay cool, thank you momma! I love subway.â She told her mom like the blonde didnât know already.
âI have everything and okay. We can talk about it if it comes up while we eat.â She told her mom and made her way to the car with her momma. âKaia said her mom is having a baby. Are you ever planning on having another one?â The young girl asked bluntly.
Arizona loved seeing Sofia in her element when it came to dancing. Maybe that is why she loves moments like this, just seeing Sofia do something she loves and really just allow herself to get lost in the music, something Arizona used to do. But now she doesnât so seeing Sofia pick up the love of dance from both Callie and herself it was nice to be honest. As they were leaving, Arizona wanted to know just what Sofia wanted for dinner as she wasnât in the mood to cook.
âI know you do, that is why I asked just what you wanted to eat. So subway it is. Do you know what you want to get there?â Walking out of the place and holding the door open for Sofia, Arizona walked to the car and she unlocked the car and allowed for Sofia to crawl in and she nodded her head. That is all it was about. Talking about things. But she wasnât prepared for the question she was being asked.
âOh no, I am not planning on having another one Sof. I have you. Why do I need another child? Just, itâs complicated.â Little does Sofia know, Callie and her tried before they split and it just wasnât in the cards for her right now. Hasnât been since that.
Sofia sure got the love of dancing from her moms. Both of them always used to dance it out together so of course she fell in love with it as well.
âUh the Italian BMT please! Oh and a cookie momma.â She told her and walked to the car with her mom. âThank you for holding the door open.â She answered. Slowly getting into the car, buckling up and looking at her momma. Listening to what she had to say about the baby question.
Sofia nodded her head softly. âI mean everything is possible right? With you seeing someone new and spending time with her and her daughter. So I was just curious if you were thinking about it.â The young girl admitted and shrugged her shoulders.
She knew Sofia was going to say that sandwich. It just so happen to be Callieâs favorite as well. âHow did I know you were going to say that? And let me guess. A chocolate chip cookie?â Raising her eyebrows with a smile on her face as she watched Sofia get into the car and get herself situated before Arizona walked around and got into the car herself.
Once she was buckled in and Sofia was set, she backed from the parking spot and made her way towards Subway. But she didnât think this would be the conversation they were having. âTrust me, anything is possible, but I just donât think another kid is in the books for me. I have you and I care for Jana and her daughter but itâll take more then that for me to want another kid. Just â itâs not the right time right now.â
She couldnât count everything out but right now, Arizona didnât see herself having another one, and besides itâs not what jana and her talk about. They talk about other things and just being with one another and the girls. âHas your momma talked about another child?â
Sofia looked at Arizona and giggled at the comment. âWell you knew cause I always take that one! Most of the time I mean and itâs Mamis favorite as well.â The young girl answered with a smile on her face.
It was true. Sofia liked a lot of things that her mami liked as well. She nodded her head eagerly when her momma mentioned the chocolate chip cookie. âOh yes momma! You know me so well! A chocolate cookie it is!â The dark haired girl told her momma.
She listened to what her momma had to say about a second kid. âOkay momma! I am sorry if I overstepped with the question!â She said softly and was biting down on her bottom lip.
âUh mami doesnât really talk much about things like that! Because she doesnât talk about emotions and feelings with me!â
Arizona was glad that Sofia was all about the same sandwich as Callie and never changed that. That is one of the many things the two of them have in common. Something that Arizona loved. Laughing low, she couldn't help but shake her head. "You and your momma used to share the sandwich when you were younger. So just know that is something you and your momma like and I love it." Arizona meant that, it was one of the many things that she loves about Sofia being like Callie.
That is why she knew Sofia wanted a cookie Callie and her both loved them, but Arizona was a sucker for a good cookie as well. "Then a chocolate chip cookie it is, think I will get one as well. Think you made the right choice." Laughing low and looking at Sofia through the review mirror before looking back at the road. "You didn't cross a line Sof, you're getting older and I don't want you to feel you can't talk to me, and as for your momma, she has always been the one to hide her emotions for the most part. You can ask questions she will answer the best she knows how to."
Pulling into the parking lot of subway and parking into the closest spot by the door and Arizona turned the car off and looked back at Sofia with a smile on her face. "Ready to go eat little miss?"
She sure got that from Callie. Callie had eaten that very sandwich while she was being pregnant with her. And than they did shre it with one another when she was very little. So this was alwyas ger go to sandwich. âI do remember that! You canât go wrong with that sandwich! Itâs literally the best one to get! Well in my opinion!â the dark haired girl replied.
She nodded her head softly. âThe Cookies are the best! Like how can someone dislike those cookies?! I donât get it! They are perfect!â Sofia answered.
âThank you for talking to me about things! Means alot that we can be open with one another!â She said softly. âThat is true! Mami is not the one that likes to talk about her feelings. She likes to do things on her own, fixing her problems!â The dark haired girl answered.
âYeah I totally am ready to eat! I am starving, momma!â
The older Sofia gets, the more she reminds Arizona of Callie. It was uncanny how alike they were and how much Sofia did the same things that made Arizona love her at one point. But seeing that, she couldnât help but laugh at her. She was right about the sandwich. They have shared it all the time and now seeing Sofia want the same sandwich and not changing, she loved that. She nodded her head and not disagreeing. Though it wasnât Arizonaâs favorite, she was glad Sofia could have that and have something in common with Callie.
âYou and your momma love that sandwich and I love that. It is something you two have in common and it isnât a bad thing. It is something you just love, and it makes me happy to know your momma and you have that in common.â Winking at Sofia and she was ready to eat. She was hungry as well and needed to get Sofia home so she can shower and get ready for bed as she had school the next day.
âYour momma does not talk about feelings at all. But that is one thing that really just make her her. Just if something is ever bothering you please let me know. I want to be able to help you the best way I can. Donât hide anything from me.â Arizona said all that why she opened the door and climbed out waiting for Sofia to join her so they can go get the sandwiches and eat and then head home and relax for the rest of the night.
Sofia sure was a mini version of Callie in some ways. But in other ways she was just like Arizona. She was the perfect mix of both of them.
When it came to food she also liked alot of things Mark liked. She believed that having three loving parents was something to be grateful for. Even though some might not be there in physical form. It still mattered to her.
âMami used to talk about this sandwich like it has magical powers! She enjoys it that much. So of course I had to try it. And it made me love it as well cause of how highly mami spoke about it!" She said with a soft laugh as she got out of the car and they made their way inside to grab their sandwiches.
âNo secrets. I promise I will tell you things and wonât keep them hidden. I am not like mami when it comes to my feelings! I am sharing them. So I am more like you in that way, momma.â Sofia answered and offered her momma a small but kind smile.
The best thing Arizona could have done was be a mother. Just seeing the mini version of Callie, and the way Sofia was like her in a way as well, she didnât think it was possible to love someone as much as she does Sofia. Plus seeing hints of Mark made her miss him though he got on her nerves sometimes. But it was just their relationship and what happened. But she wouldnât trade any of this for anything. A smile was spread on Arizonaâs face just taking in all of this with Sofia, and letting her daughter do her thing and seeing her become more independent.
Laughing low, of course Callie would talk about a sandwich. If she loves food she talks about it until someone else tries it and loves it as much as she does. âšâWell, when your momma loves something, she really does talk about it. So that means she loves this. Just glad you tried it and are expanding your taste buds. Because I for one canât eat everything your momma said was good. I was not that brave to try everything.â She was being honest, Arizona was one who wouldnât branch out too much when it came to trying food and when it came to really just allowing herself to try something sheâs never had.
Arizona wanted to build a relationship with Sofia where she can talk to her about anything that was bothering her. She didnât want to have her think she couldnât come to her. âThat is all I ask for. I donât want you to think you have to hide anything from me. I want you to know anything you want to talk to about, I know you are young now, but when you get older and you need advice or something is bothering you, you can talk to me okay? Just, donât be afraid of saying anything.â She wanted Sofia to know no matter what she would be there and help with anything she needs help with.
Sofia sure was a mini version of Callie when it came to looks and a few other things. But she was just as a much a little Arizona as she was a Callie. The perfect mix of both of her moms and the smile of her dad Mark.
She giggled softly when her mom reacted to her mama talking about the sandwich. âShe sure does this alot. Talking about food she likes I mean. She has this new recipe for pancakes with strawberries and chocolate sauce! I know how to make it! Mama loves it a lot and says itâs her special breakfast now!â She answered and smiled softly.
Sofia knew where her mom came from. Her mama sure always struggled with talking about feelings and what was bothering her. The raven haired kid wasnât like that though. She was more open like Mark & Arizona. âI will share whatever is important and you probably gonna get tired of hearing it.â She replied with a giggle.
Every time Arizona looked at Sofia. She seen Callie and a mix of Mark, and that is something Arizona loved. She never hid that fact Sofia has a father who was no longer there from her. She tried to keep Mark in the conversation, and seeing that smile, it was definitely Mark and she couldnât help but smile back at Sofia hearing this story about Callie making a new breakfast and she was shocked. She never had chocolate for breakfast.
âOh? You think she learned that youâre like me and need a little sugar in the morning?â Laughing low and she was proud of Callie for bending the breakfast rule for Sofia and herself sometimes. âSo the question is, whose pancakes are better, mine or hers?â This was q quiz but she knew Sofia liked both and didnât want to choose and she wouldnât let her. It was all fun and games and just shocked Callie was making that.
But she knew sometimes Sofia needed to talk, she was a kid growing up in two homes and just wanted to know she was okay. She knew Callie was more of the one who hid and Sofia and Arizona were the more open ones about how they felt and she laughed shaking her head. âThat is impossible, I am your mother, I would never get tired hearing about how you feel Sof. That is what we do. We make sure youâre okay, and that youâre happy okay? So you can tell me if youâre happy or not and we will figure something out.â
Sofia grinned softly. She didnât want to chose between her moms pancakes. So she didnât. Both tasted amazing.
âI make the bestest pancakes ever!â She answered. âSo I win!â Sofia answered and chuckled softly.
She loved that her moms never actually make her pick sides. Because this was one thing she didnât want and saw her
âAnd yes momma! She figured out I am a sugar junkie like you in the morning!â The young girl said and grinned softly.
Sofia nodded her head softly, offering her momma a kind smile. âThank you momma! I appreciate that you are always there for me and that I can talk to you about everything thatâs on my mind!â she told her and hugged her for a moment.
Sugar was just something Arizona found to be good, though she tried not to eat too much of it, having a daughter who likes it as much as she does, it was only a matter of time before they both indulged themselves with sugar and nothing else. Arizona couldnât fault Sofia for liking sugar. âI will let you have this one, since you know, I help and all, so it is a win for me as well.â
Laughing low, there was nothing wrong then passing her love for sugar over to Sofia. It was the only thing she could do at this point and it was the best. âWell, looks like you and I can have sugar and be ready for the day huh? Syrup is a good source of sugar and good for you. Plus it goes on pancakes better then anything else.â
Nodding her head once, she didnât want Sofia to hide anything from her. She knew there was a lot that she didnât understand and didnât really know what happened, but she didnât want to hide anything from her. âOf course Sof, that is what I am here for. I want you to be able to talk to me. I know sometimes it is hard because I am busy, but I will always have time for you.â
Sofia couldnât help but agree. Sugar was their Kryptonite in a way and the young one was totally fine with it.
She loved that both of them had that in common. âGlad we both Love Sugar! Cause I was hoping I could have a cotton candy machine on my next birthday. I think it would be a great highlight!â The young girl said and smiled softly.
âAlso 1000% yes to syrup on pancakes! I agree that itâs the best thing to put onto pancakes! Plus dipping bacon into the syrup when the bacon is crispy tastes amazing! Itâs the best thing ever!â
The dark haired girl was quiet for a moment and nodded her head softly. âI donât have any secrets really and will let you know how I feel, even though it might cause some trouble between us.â
Arizona had a child like personality and she loved that Sofia and her had that in common. Though her daughter was getting older she loved she was just like her in that way. Not wanting to grow up too fast. Raising her eyebrows and she was shocked that is what Sofia wanted, but she wasnât surprised in a way, just shocked it took her that long to ask for one.
âA cotton candy machine? And where are we going to put it? I know we have a house but I donât think we have that much room, but I will look into it okay?â A smile on her face an she watched Sofia, just not ready for her to really grow up too fast. She didnât want to lose her baby in a way.
Laughing low, Sofia was her daughter, with the sugar and the fact she just loved eating pancakes. âJust donât get any on you please. I donât want you to have a sticky shirt. We have things to do.â Arizona loved bacon and dipping it into her syrup as well. Something else Sofia picked up that she did.
She just knew she was getting older and really didnât know what else to say, she just didnât want her daughter to think she wasnât able to tell her anything. âI just donât want you to think you canât tell me anything. Okay?â
Cotton candy was one of her favorite things when they went to the carnival. So having one at her birthday party would be cool. It would be the best gift ever. Like cotton candy was the best. Fluffy, tasty clouds? How can someone hate that?
âYes thank you mom! I mean only for my birthday party! Like we could rent it! We donât have to keep it. But I was thinking it would be fun for the guests.â The young girl said with a smile on her face. Sofia was always gonna be their baby. But she still knew her moms had a hard time with her growing up.
She nodded her head softly. âOkay got it! No sticky shirts or other items of clothing getting dirty!â Sofia replied and chuckled softly.
âOh I know I can tell you everything thatâs on my mind. So donât worry about it. I love you momma and I know you love me as well. So itâs a safe space to say things that are bothering us for example.â
Arizona wasnât one to give Sofia a lot of sugar. Only because what kind of parent would she be to let her child eat a lot of sugar when she tells most parents not to. Small amounts were fine, but she wouldnât allow Sofia to snack on it too much. But once in a while and like on her birthday, it wasnât bad. She was allowed to have then and Arizona was really thinking about it. Being that is what she wanted, how was she going to say no. Sofia was a good kid, and she knew she deserved something that made her happy.
âI will see what I can do. We can do a carnival themed party. I can have some of the the people at work come and help and they can work on some of the attractions so to speak and then someone hand out the cotton candy as well, What do you think? Think that might be an idea we can do?â A smile on her face hoping that Sofia loves the idea, as Arizona doesnât see why she canât pull it off.
She just wanted Sofia to be able to talk to her, because she knows sometimes it doesnât seem like it, but Arizona was one of those moms and she wanted to know everything that was on her daughters mind. âExactly that. I donât want you to ever think you canât talk to me okay? I am here for you and will always be here for you. That is all you need. And whatever is bothering you, even if it is about your other mom, I can try to help okay?â
Sofia was looking forward to her birthday Party. And a carnival themed one sounded really amazing. She was super excited about that.
"i Love the Idea, Momma! It Sounds just perfect! Really looking forward to it actually!" She told her. Clapping ehr hands together, smiling at Arizona.
Sofia was looking at her momma, sighing softly. "I appreciate you saying that. And i will keep that in mind...there is something i think about. It's not about Mami though." She replied and looked down for a moment. "It's a bit embarrassing actually." The young Girl admitted.
