Dear my Tumblr SKE KKS invasion commenced

veil lifted. introducing goto rara! she was part of the 18-nin team E stage today. She performed in the 2nd team song set. She was helped tons by the girls during the perf including giving the girls giving rara visual cues on the next part of the choreo. Rara also looked around a lot at the girls trying to match her timing to theirs. She’ll improve. I have high hopes for this girl considering she’s selected for ske’s new single

My 2 cents:

Rena is a fierce competitor. There is no doubt about that. This is the girl who would do reverse psychology on herself just to psyche and motivate herself up. But this sousenkyou decision is pretty telling. She doesn’t want to compete anymore and in turn, she doesn’t want the fans to be divided. I think this is a great move and here’s why:

Jurina and Rena have always been next to each other in the SSK. What would be the effect if the difference between them are several places apart? Rena’s pride would probably be hurt and more than that, the rift in the fandom will become tenuous. What would happen if Jurina was number 1 and Rena was not in top 5? The impact of that would be disastrous for the fandom.

How about if its the other way around, what if Rena got number 1? Would that make her happy? I dont think so. For her fans who are wishing for her to graduate so she can focus on her individual stuff, this is the most troubling scenario: Rena would be compelled to stay in SKE as she is going to be the go-to person in SKE. Delaying on her personal growth to care for SKE who some think is in dire straits right now. This is probably the worst outcome cause she’d be unable to fulfill her commitments equally with everyone and knowing Rena, she’d put SKE on top priority at the expense of her opportunities for herself-- If she wants to succeed in this business, she has to explore other options and this would undoubtedly would kill her career. (Rena is in the prime age to tackle serious roles and shake off the idol moniker. Rena the artist-model-actress are much better designations than Rena the idol. It is a huge step up)

Either way it is a lose/lose scenario for Rena for participating in SSK. Bowing out allows for the rivalry between Matsui camps to die on its own and as well as send out a signal to all the girls in SKE that Rena is opening a path. It also puts everything into perspective neatly that SKE is transitioning.

Oh to the naysayers that SKE is doomed. No, it is not. Times are great actually. We got plenty of new faces in senbatsu, a promising new generation of girls and renewed passion from some of the girls who have been around a while. It is an exciting time to be a fan. And these aren’t just my words, the girls themselves has been trying to convince us of this for a while now during the theater shows. Take in the bad with the good, SKE has its ups and downs. We’ll survive.
