Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”

So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”

Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.

Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.

I feel such a weird sense of guilt whenever I talk about how much I love the great ance attorney Chronicles especially when I’m like oh my god, I can barely function when I think about it. I don’t know. It makes me feel really really guilty. Like I’m so excited over it in one moment and then the next moment I feel such an overwhelming amount of shame that I can’t bring myself to look at the characters. I can’t bring myself to like associate with it for a while because it just makes me feel so guilty and I like hurts in my chest and it feels so horrible and I hate that feeling so much.

I haven’t slept and I needed to wake up at 6 AM so I could do something. I’m not specifying but whatever yk I was already awake at 6 AM because you know I didn’t sleep at all and now it’s 8 AM and I still haven’t slept and I cant bring myself to sleep and I need to study for my exam that is tomorrow and I know that I should be doing it right now because you know I have the time and I’m awake right now, but I can’t bring myself to do it. I can’t bring myself to do anything.

whenever I see like father characters or brother characters in media I’m always filled with like this intense jealousy or like yearning that I could have that in my life. I can’t really tell but then I just reassure myself like it’s okay you have hydrangea. Hydrangea is like your father figure that you can rely on, and even though it does kind of soothe me at the moment I’m still filled with this dread because I’m so aware of the fact that you know like I’m so aware that this is just like a weird coping mechanism and I don’t know the feeling of jealousy and dread never ends

I did not know how horny people were over on Twitter, cause I stumbled upon like this band AU thing on Pinterest and I clicked the link. I found the Twitter person or whatever and then I was looking through their account and stuff and I went down a little rabbit hole. I’m not surprised at the amount of nsfw but I am definitely not accustomed to it. and I feel like I should never get Twitter for the sole reason is that if I got so much content of like my fav fandom or something I would not survive. I’m too weak for that like already. I am so into the great ace attorney Chronicles and if I got so much content like all of this fan art and stuff, then I would actually like I would not survive I think I would actually get a heart attack and I wish I was joking, but I haven’t read a fanfiction in like over a month because I desperately need to restrict myself or it physically hurts and I read a band au asoryuu fanfiction today and it was really good

I fumbled my English exam so bad because we had to do a narrative writing and usually they only give you two pages and the thing is you can ask for extra sheets apparently and I never knew this and I’ve never heard this from anyone not my classmates not my family, not my friends, not my teachers, but I didn’t know that and my story was like a bit too much and I had to sum it up really badly at the end of the thing is I always get good in writing I’m really really bad at comprehension, but I’m way better in writing and I feel like I fumbledmy exam and I want to literally bash my head with a rock and I wanna apologize by English teacher cause like what the hell did I write the ending was so bad
