What is Motherland : Fort Salem and should I watch it?

Fort Salem is a new series that shows an alternative version of America where witches offered a deal in Salem. They would serve as soldiers in the USA military and fight it’s enemies in exchange for safety. Witches are essentially slave soldiers. Except for special circumstances they don’t have a choice but to sign up for the military. But they are not treated as slaves. Society practically worships them. Americans fawn over them even more then over regular soldiers

The story is centered around three girls as they enter basic training :

Tally is naive idealistic young girl. She grew up in a matrifocal community(only women). She actually believes the military propaganda and thinks that being a soldier actually means helping make the world a better place. Even though she was one of the few who had a dispensation she willingly chose to sign up Raelle is cynical angry girl that comes from poverty who just recently lost her mother. She hates the military and sees joining them as essentially the end of her life

Abigail is an arrogant and stuck up girl that comes from a legendary military family and wants to go to the top at any cost

Is it gay?

Yes it’s very gay.

Is it well written?

Surprisingly yes.  I fully expected it to be the kind of mediocre writing that we are used to see from the CW and Freeform but it’s actually quite compelling. There is interesting world building and so far the characters are well devleoped and there doesn’t seem to be drama for drams sake

What about the CGI?

The CGI effects are surprisingly good and magic is presented in a creative way

Is it military propaganda?:

Not really. It’s actually a good depiction of how problematic the military is

So who is the bad guy?

They are called the Spree. Terrorist of Freedom fighting witches depending your perspective  who fight against the military industrial complex not just in the USA but all over the world. Unfortunately they tend to do this by regularly slaughtering thousand of civilians
