What Is a Lotion Bar?

Unlike conventional body lotions that are thick and creamy in consistency, lotion bars are solid at room temperature and are typically packaged like a bar of soap or housed in a tube-like container. You’ll also usually find them made with natural ingredients like beeswax, cocoa butter, or shea butter and produced without water. As a result, their formulas are often more concentrated and eliminate the need for added preservatives, as there is less chance for mold.

Another key difference with lotion bars is that they remain solid until their application, at which point your body's heat melts the bar, giving it a slippery consistency that glides effortlessly across the skin. Additionally, because lotion bars don't come with a bottle and pump dispenser, they provide a more sustainable alternative by reducing the need for unrecyclable materials (like metal springs).
