Premature Burials at Les Innocents Cemetery

In 1786, when the Les Innocents cemetery in Paris, France was moved from the center of the city to the suburbs, the number of skeletons found face down convinced many people and several doctors that premature burial was very common. [Source]

The cemetery was closed after it became a hotbed of infection and disease following around ten centuries of overuse. It was decided that the empty tunnels on the outskirts of the city, now ‘The Paris Catacombs’ (above), would be the dead’s final resting place. In a process which took place only at night, ‘behind a procession of chanting priests, began a parade of black-covered bone-laden horse-drawn wagons that continued for years … the bones were deposited in a wide well … and distributed throughout the underground caverns by workers below.’ [Source]

How's it going?

Its ok. Life....eh? As the French might say, in English. Past week save for the off day on Monday has been spent installing cabinets in Newcastle. I'll be three for the next couple of dAys Hardwareing a couple of houses. This includes installing closet rods, shutters, base shoe(it's a base thing) and doorknobs and cabinet knobs/drawer handles. Been jamming Static-X, The Acacia Strain, Municipal Waste, Combichrist, some old Slayer and Pantera, Slipknot, The Black Dahlia Murder, Winds of Plague and Whitechapel while working. New guy is a nice guy but a bit of a racist and homophobe. But he's a decent worker, and a metalhead so he's at least slightly good company. Been hitting the weights and getting back into a routine. Reading The Walking by Bentley Little. Just finished Summer of Night by Dan Simmons. Skullie told me to relay she talked to Ms. Smith about you. She speaks quite highly of you Skullie reports. So that's good!

Artist Zdzislaw Beksinski (24 February 1929 – 21 February 2005) was a renowned Polish painter, photographer, and sculptor. Beksiński executed his paintings and drawings either in what he called a ‘Baroque’ or a ‘Gothic’ manner. The first style is dominated by representation, with the best-known examples coming from his fantastic realism period when he painted disturbing images of a surrealistic, nightmarish environment. The second style is more abstract, being dominated by form, and is typified by Beksiński’s later paintings.
