laundry for the fitz household is an ordeal and a frequent one at that. he feels like at this point he could pay the landlord the full price of a washer and drier every lease renewal for exclusive access and still end up saving money in the long run. of course, thatâs not how public laundry services work and so heâs stuck counting quarters and spending several hours a week just washing, drying and folding clothes. heâs on the last of the three steps with the first of three loads, feeling bittersweet as he folds onesies that are just a bit too small for his growing daughter. skylar knows plenty of people who take their finished clothes back to their apartment to fold and sort, risking a bad neighbor selfishly emptying out their machine mid-cycle or worse. not only can sky not afford to replace anything ruined or swiped but, this way, he also avoids at least two pairs of not-so-helpful hands. starla and leo mean well but their attempts at folding leave lots to be desired, with more clothes ending up on the floor than in their drawers. so skylar stays in the public laundry room, setting aside a few hours to get everything done, folded and arranged for easy travel back to his busy apartment. heâs in his zone when the door opens and closes. absently, he knows he should probably at least tidy up his work station so heâs not sprawled out across more machines than he needs. itâs as sky looks up to take survey of whether or not heâs in someoneâs way that he sees her. xiomara. immediately sky wishes he were the type to abandon the task at hand for the refuge of apartment 212; he doesnât want to be here. itâs a blast from the past he didnât ask for -- a reminder of a life he left (abruptly) behind.
