You guys wanna read my Skumpkin fic
Of course you do here it is:
Sky has been through some pretty weird things. The weirdest thing he’s ever encountered was having to fight some weird demon with a long tongue and then saving his girlfriend from a literal god that was eating her soul. That was definitely the weirdest thing Sky had ever experienced in his life.
Until he was pulled into a mysterious portal and met a bunch of heroes like himself who also had the name Link.
Never had Sky considered this type of thing to be possible. His adventure with this group of heroes has been a bizarre one, realizing that there were people like him but were so different that it was almost frustrating at times. That was definitely the weirdest thing that had ever happened to him.
Until the captain turned into a peanut.
That event in the rancher’s castle town was unknowingly a beginning of a really weird chain of events. The ones who knew about the warnut thought that this’ll be a one time thing, but no, soon everyone began turning into food. The old man turned into milk, the traveler turned into a bean, the ranch hand turned into cheese, the cook turned into a wild berry, the smith turned into a green pepper (that one was hard to fix since he wouldn’t stop panicking), and the sailor turned into shrimp. The ones that weren’t affected by this mysterious food curse were Sky himself and the veteran.
It became routine that someone would bring a piece of food to Sky and say that it was one of their comrades, and Sky would help change them back and promise not to tell anyone. The first two times was, truthfully, hilarious, but after the third time it just became concerning. Soon the group of heroes made a plan to not touch anything weird, to not talk to anyone weird, and to not eat anything weird. These events were no coincidences, they were an attack on the group.
As concerning as these events were, they weren’t irreversible. As long as Sky had the Master Sword, then they could always turn back to their true form, no matter what.
Until Sky turned into a pumpkin and lost the Master Sword.
It started out as a normal day. It was a few weeks after Wind turned into a shrimp, so the threat of food once again was pushed to the back of their minds. They had just fought a large group of monsters and they were beaten and exhausted. Since they were near town, the old man decided that they should stay at an inn for once, in real beds so they could just relax. Nobody protested, since a real bed sounded wonderful. Wild was especially excited since he didn’t have to cook everyone food. They went to an inn, got some rooms, everyone doubling up, and did their own thing. Sky roomed with Wind, and they both decided that they were starving and did not want to wait until dinner.
“Let’s see what the inn is selling. I got some rupees here,” Sky offered.
Wind groggily agreed and they both went downstairs. They sat at a table, mindful of their bruises, and waited until someone came by to bring them food.
“You fought well,” Sky said, trying to start a conversation.
The tired boy looked at him and gave a toothy grin.
“Of course I did,” he jokingly scoffed, flexing (but slowly since he was sore).
Sky laughed, he always enjoyed his time with Wind. He very mature and serious when he needed to be, but he was still relatively young. He saw the world in a different way, and regardless of his past traumas, he still held on to his childhood. Sky looked up to that. They sat there chatting until finally, a strange looking man came by to bring them food. He was small, with a big nose wearing a thick cloak. A little odd for a waiter, but Sky guessed that that’s how the surface is. He eyed the boys as if he spotted a trophy. Sky became uneasy, but didn’t like assuming people’s personalities based on looks. He smiled warmly to convince himself that nothing was sketchy about this guy.
“Hello young men, what can I get for you?” The man asked, his big hands clasped in front of him.
“Uh…” Sky looked at the menu and bit his lip nervously. He couldn’t read this. Fortunately Wind could.
“I’ll have your shrimp platter please!”
“Of course! And for you?” The man looked at Sky, waiting for his answer.
Sky leaned over to Wind, whispering, “what do they have?”
Wind leaned over and whispered back, “they have shrimp, bread, soup-“
“Ooooh do they have pumpkin soup?” Sky asked excitedly.
“We do!” The man cut in enthusiastically.
“Great! I’ll have that!”
The man left to get their food and came out with a shrimp platter and pumpkin soup. Sky and Wind happily ate their food, however Sky couldn’t help but watch Wind with disgust.
“How can you handle eating shrimp?”
Wind shrugged. “After turning into a shrimp, I remembered how delicious it is! I’ve honestly been craving it!”
Sky stared at him, his pumpkin soup dripping from his spoon. “I can’t handle eating peanuts anymore… knowing that it may be one of my friends.”
Wind stared at him for a bit and shrugged, munching away at the shrimp. Sky let out a chuckle and returned to his soup. What a chaotic kid.
When they finished their food, they pulled their aching bodies up the stairs and collapsed on their beds, their bellies full making them very sleepy.
“It’s time… to nap now…” Wind mumbled into his pillow. “You think the others will need us?”
“Nah,” Sky answered, “we’re all relaxing today… let’s just…. Sleep…”
And just like that, the sailor and skyloftian drifted off into dreamland.
————————————
Sky awoke to Wind screaming. He gasped and tried to get up but found himself unable to move… his neck was feeling stiff… or… was his neck even there? He tried to sit up but had no arms… legs… neck… wait a minute…
“W-Wind!?”
“Sky! You’re… you’re a… you’re a pumpkin!”
Both Sky and Wind sat there screaming for a solid minute. After they were done, Wind cautiously approached the gourd, turned it around, and saw Sky’s face twisted in fear.
“Oh my Din….”
Sky went back to screaming.
“I’M A PUMPKIN! How can this BE? HOW DO I GET OUT OF THIS? AAAH I feel so weird! I don’t have arms or legs or- AAAH!”
Wind stared as Sky panicked about his fate, and then the sailor’s lips curled up in a smile, a snort escaped his mouth.
“WIND THIS ISN’T FUNNY! THE FOOD CURSE GOT TO ME, I NEED TO TURN BACK, HEEEEEELP!”
Wind doubled over in laughter at Sky’s reaction. Sky kept squirming around as the pumpkin, hopping around on the bed which made Wind laugh harder. Once Wind caught his breath he looked at Sky pumpkin, or Skumpkin, with a big smile on his little face.
“Welcome to the food chain Sky!” He shouted with excitement. Sky grumbled and rolled his pumpkin-y eyes.
“Ok ok, thanks for the warm welcome, now get the master sword so I can turn back!”
Wind let out a breath and patted Skumpkin.
“All right, all right, it’s by your bed right?”
“Yep.”
Wind looked around the bed as Sky tried to comprehend that this was really happening. Everytime the heroes turned into food, they always went to Sky, asking him to turn them back and begging him not to tell anyone. Now it was his turn. Sky was just relieved that only Wind knows about this, and that he wouldn’t have to go on some adventure looking for the master sword…
“Uh… where is the sword?”
What?
“She’s right by my bed, Wind. Very easy to spot.”
“But… I looked under the bed… by the bed… under my bed… I can’t find her anywhere.”
Oh goddesses.
“Did I leave her downstairs?” Sky said with panic in his voice. He doesn’t remember bringing her downstairs. And he never leaves Fi behind.
“I’ll go check!” And just like that, Wind was gone, searching for the lost master sword. A few minutes later, he came back, success not written on his face and his hands empty. He silently searched the entire room, but found nothing. Finally he looked at Sky. When he turned into a shrimp, the only comfort was knowing that Sky was able to turn him back to normal, but now the master sword was missing, and Sky was a pumpkin. He felt bad for him… he needed to help Sky the best he could.
Sky stared at Wind’s face, his brow furrowed in concentration. He sighed. “Maybe… maybe the others took it? Only the hero can wield the sword anyways…”
Wind pondered this and nodded. “Yeah… yeah no one else could’ve taken it. I’ll go find the others!”
Just on cue, they heard a knock on the door.
“Hey, sailor, y’all ready for some dinner?”
It was Twilight. Thank Hylia it wasn’t anyone else.
“Uh… yeah! You- uh- you by any chance have the master sword?” Wind asked, trying not to sound suspicious.
“No, Sky’s supposed to have it. Why?”
“Uh…”
“Wait, aren't you rooming with Sky? What’s going on?”
Wind looked over to Sky, not knowing whether he should keep this a secret or if he should reveal the elephant in the room- or pumpkin.
Sky groaned, “oh just let him in, this isn’t the first time this has happened anyways.”
Wind nodded and opened the door. Twilight saw the worry on the young hero’s face and grew concerned.
“What’s wrong?”
“Uh…. We have a problem.”
Twilight’s eyes moved over to Sky’s bed, and his brows furrowed in confusion at the pumpkin sitting there.
“… Wind… don’t tell me…”
“Yeah.”
“That's… that there is Sky?”
“Yep.”
“Huh.”
Twilight walked over to Skumpkin and began asking questions. Did he touch anything? Did he talk to anyone strange? Did he eat anything strange?
“We were just eating! I had shrimp and Sky had pumpkin soup!” Wind answered.
“Not even going to ask why you were eating shrimp… now… pumpkin soup…” Twilight frowned. “Well, clearly it was the soup that caused this… where’s the master sword?”
“I don’t know! That’s why we’re freaking out!” Sky cried. “I know that it has to be here somewhere! Maybe one of you guys took it!”
“I didn’t take it, neither did Time,Warriors, or Wild. I don’t know why Legend, Hyrule, or Four would take it…”
“Maybe one of them turned into food! And they needed it!” Wind suggested.
“That’s a good theory, come on guys.” Twilight picked up Skumpkin and walked out the door with Wind following.
And that’s how this whole disaster happened. Definitely the weirdest thing to ever happen to Sky. His pumpkin face was pouting as he was being held by Twilight. They reached the restaurant part of the inn where the other heroes were sitting, having an argument over how dogs would wear pants.
“I SWEAR! I’m GOING to bring in Wolfie and I’m going to PUT SOME PANTS ON HIM and PROVE YOU JERKS WRONG!” Sky heard Legend scream from their table. A loud eruption of arguments and laughing came, drawing in stares from the other guests.
“How do they have so much energy?” Sky wondered aloud. Twilight snorted.
“You mind if they see you Sky?” Twilight asked.
Sky sighed in defeat, “Might as well let them. It’ll be easier to solve the problem anyways.”
Twilight nodded to the pumpkin in his arms and marched right up to the table.
“Howdy y’all, look who we picked up.” Twilight interrupted the heated discussion and held up the pumpkin.
The group stared at the pumpkin in silence.
“Good gourd,” the old man finally said.
Everyone among the table groaned and conversation erupted again. They quickly stopped and looked back at Skumpkin, muttering among themselves. Sky felt uncomfortable as a pumpkin with everyone staring and talking about him.
“Well well well,” the captain started, “look who turned into an edible.”
Sky grumbled as the group laughed, Twilight and Wind chuckling along. The two sat down at the table, placing Skumpkin on the table.
“Twilight, how do you think a dog wears pants?” Wild immediately asked, ignoring the topic of Skumpkin.
Twilight pondered this a moment and shrugged. “Dogs don’t wear pants…”
“Yeah but WHAT IF THEY DO?” Legend nearly jumped onto the table in rage, everyone else dying of laughter.
“Calm down,” twilight barely breathed out, his face red from laughing.
“Hey can we please focus on changing me back?” Sky said loudly, silencing the laughter.
“Right, sorry,” Four spoke with everyone else giggling.
“So what happened?” Time asked.
“Me and Wind were eating food… I had pumpkin soup and we took a nap and next thing I knew, I was a pumpkin.”
The table muttered about this, thinking about this situation. “It happens to the best of us,” Warriors finally said.
The table rose with laughter once again, except for Legend, who was the only one who was not turned into food.
“Why didn’t you just use the Master Sword?” Hyrule asked after the laughter died down.
“I don’t know where it went. I was hoping you guys took it…”
The group all muttered a “no”, and Sky’s pumpkin guts dropped.
“Where could she be?”
“You probably just misplaced her, don’t worry,” Hyrule said.
“Yeah, besides, nobody can wield the sword except for us… the heroes, so it’s not like anybody took her…” Wild jumped in.
“But I searched our entire room!” Wind cut in, “the sword was nowhere to be found!”
“It’s somewhere in this inn, it has to be!” Sky muttered… no one could’ve taken her… But he was still worried. Last time he lost her he was captured by Bokoblins and had to sneak around to find her and his items again. He doesn’t want to lose her again.
Time stood up and began giving orders. Legend and Hyrule were to search the restaurant, Twilight, Wind, and Sky were to search his room, Time and Warriors were to search around town, and Four and Wild were to search the rest of the inn.
“If you boys get done quickly, we’ll have a good dinner tonight!” Time said before splitting everyone up with an authoritative clap.
The boys began their search, thoroughly looking in every nook and cranny, asking around, and sometimes having to move furniture and getting scolded at, but there was no sign of the sword. In the room, Sky watched helplessly as Twilight and Wind moved around the furniture. He hated being a food.
“I can’t trust anything anymore. I was just enjoying some pumpkin soup. I always have pumpkin soup! Now… I don’t know if I can eat it anymore.”
“That’s not souper good.”
“I hate you Twilight.”
Twilight and Wind laughed.
“Orange you glad you have us to help you out Sky?” Wind jumped in on the jokes.
“Yeah, we sure are a patch ain’t we?” Twilight continued.
Sky took a deep breath trying to ignore them.
“So did you guys see anyone weird before he turned into a pumpkin?” Twilight asked.
“Yeah…” Wind started, “our waiter wore a thick cloak… which waiters don’t do… he also looked at us really weird… I say it was pretty seedy.”
“Hmmm, that’s definitely pumpkin to worry about…”
“I’m glad my pain is humorous to you two, now can we please just focus?” Sky huffed.
Wind kept giggling as he looked through the dresser and Twilight pulled up the covers on Sky’s bed. He stopped laughing.
“What is it?” Wind asked.
Twilight didn’t say anything, instead he grabbed something on the bed and held it up. He turned around with a big, goofy smile on his face. He was holding the Master Sword.
“You found it!” Wind yelled. Sky sighed with relief.
“Oh thank Hylia. I thought I was gonna stay as a pumpkin forever!”
Twilight shook his head, chuckling. “Why was she in your bed?”
The pumpkin shifted a little, and Twilight assumed that he shrugged. “I don’t know… I don’t remember putting her there… but thank the goddesses she’s alright. Now turn me back please!”
“I’m souper relieved that the sword is not lost!” Wind nudged at Twilight.
“Me too, that wouldn’t have been very gourd.” Twilight nudged back.
“STOP!”
——————————-
The others regrouped in the restaurant, back at their table. Time was staring ahead, waiting for any news about the sword. Four stared ahead as well, while the rest were drawing diagrams of dogs with pants on, continuing to argue. Four perked up when he saw Twilight walk around the corner, followed by Wind, and finally, Sky in his true form. Time smiled in relief and Four cheered.
“You guys found the sword!” He shouted.
“Someone apparently forgot where they put the sword,” Twilight chuckled while sitting down, “she was in his bed covers.”
The table erupted with laughter while Sky huffed with his arms crossed across his chest.
“In my defense I was tired to the bone! I just… didn’t remember…” He scratched the back of his head in embarrassment.
“Alright, are we finally done with this food situation? It’s kind of a pain…” Legend said, not looking up from his diagram.
“Hey now… no need to feel left out! It’ll be your turn soon enough!” Hyrule laughed, putting his arm around Legend, receiving a scowl in return.
“Now now, he’s not the best of us,” Warriors teased, resulting in a napkin being thrown at his face.
The group erupted in laughter again, and everyone went along with their individual conversations. Legend quietly begged Twilight to turn into a wolf so they could put pants on him, Four and Wild laughed at Legend’s passion about this argument. Warriors and Hyrule ordered the food (Warriors attempted at flirting with the waitress) while Time and Wind stared at Sky with puzzling expressions.
Finally growing uncomfortable under their stares, Sky looked at them. “What?”
Time reach over a grabbed something from Sky’s hair: a pumpkin seed. Time smiled wide.
“Looks like someone tried to hide the side effect.”
Sky’s face flushed a deep red, “please don’t tell anyone, it took so long to get those gross pumpkin guts out of my hair!”
Wind laughed and Time smiled, flicking the seed at red-faced Legend. The group involved with the dog pants argument burst out laughing. Time chuckled himself and looked over at Sky.
“Normally they hide their curses from the others, but you showed your pumpkin self to everyone so we could help you…” Time smile began to grow, wider and wider, and Sky knew and dreaded what was coming. “That takes guts.”
Sky planted his head on the table, groaning at the whole situation. Time and Wind laughed, the old man patting his back.
