Today I would love to talk about the forbidden topic of PRIVILEGE 📜 I am proud to say, I am proud GAY, BLACK, and EDUCATED and there is not a soul that exists who can strip these identities. Yet, I recognize my privilege over LGBT persons who are held back due to unnecessary phobia and hatred. Advocacy, awareness, respect, kindness: The list goes on. I have watched my fiancé be ignored, ridiculed, insulted and worst of all, called by his birth name due to gross negligence, spite, and disrespect. June is the month of Pride. Show your pride. A long long time ago , in a land far away lived a little boy , boisterous and full of never-ending energy. One summer , he had the opportunity to be taken away from his terrifying land and brought to a sanctuary where he'd eventually be loved tremendously. Though I was loved , I was even more terrified of allowing my saving grace to find out that I was not a normal boy. I like guys. I LIKE GUYS , i would practice those words over and over again but too afraid to tell because of rejection and shame from people who showed nothing but love. Today , I am me. Today , I am happy . Present day , those who saved me knows I like guys. And guess what? They love me still. Long story short , a gay black man can be loved. You just have to believe it. Be ready for it. And always, always, always love yourself.

I've always been a flighter. My feelings get hurt , I leave. This followed me from when I was a kid. It was all I knew. Thank you for being a part of my transition , my dear fiancé . .

☀️ Today I dubb, #transparenttuesday ; From Right to Left . Here I am a 17 year old high school student about to walk toward the stage. I am desperate to exit stage left because I can see freedom. Freedom to explore, pursue, dominate, love, be loved, be respected. There are endless possibilities ahead. I am hopeful because the pain I burdened on my shoulder is now gone. . . This next awe-inspiring milestone is my college graduation. I am 21 years old. My back is facing the camera because deep down I am ashamed at the person I had become ; almost hypocritical due to the words embroidered on my cap. I thought immediately after, "I am glad I cannot see my face. I am ashamed of what I was then." I almost died by my own hand. Yes. I fought so hard , practically alone , though seemingly surrounded by significant support systems to achieve what I had done on this day. . . Now this last photo , as transparent as I can be , I am telling those who are black , who are gay , who are hurt , who are alone , who are ignored and hated ; I am doing fine now. I am finding myself. I am loving myself. I am no longer ashamed of what I once was but grateful I can share my story. I am not alone. I know that I am not. So I beg of the people that this could reach : fight and be brave. Please be brave. Because it does get better. Skylar Daemon

We live in a world where our identity is constant. When born we are given a name; a name that society will expect us to stand by until our days have past. We have no choice in the matter of the name that is given to us, do we? I believe not. Yet the moment we realize our name has meaning we should begin to realize that name has placed us in a box. I have heard many people say something on the lines of: "You look like a [insert name here]." Excuse me. Sorry but I have name. Is normally my thoughts on that. 

Having a name that you identify with and society identifies you by carries with it an expectation. You are expected to be something with that name; do something under that name. Or do nothing. I believe that there is a social stigma in having a name as well as living by that name; whether it is negative or positive, the stigma will still be there. Now this post may seem random in a sense and the URL for this blog that begins with skylardaemon.... may seem like an odd random name as well. However, this name, Skylar Daemon, is very relevant. The name of my blog is called FIFTY SHADES OF GAY, because the idea of having an identity can come in many different forms. I have a secret identity, and I recently came out with my identity when starting this blog. My name on here is Skylar Daemon because on here I can be whoever I want to be. My secret identity is mine alone and it was not signed off by a doctor or a judge or even society. It was signed off by my life, the events that have touched me, both negatively and positively constructed. I have chosen this name because no one can box it. Skylar Daemon is not expected to do anything by society's view. Skylar Daemon cannot be placed in a box because he is my secret identity, and my secret identity cannot be touched by the likes of bullying, degrading words, a hetero-normative society, laws that prevent him from acting on certain rights our country may ban him from being a part of. Skylar Daemon is a secret identity that I have come up with because I needed a voice in a world where I felt pain. There is a song the famous singer Demi Lovato sings on her current tour, Neon Lights Tour. It is called: Warrior. And within that song there is a line that I wish to share with my viewers. "Now I'm a warrior. Now I've got thicker skin. I'm a warrior. I'm stronger than I've ever been. And my armor, is made of steel, you can't get in. I'm a warrior. And you can never hurt me again." Through my secret identity, Skylar Daemon, I am a warrior with armor made of steel, and society will not ever hurt me again. There are too many "shades" in the society we live in, too many boxes. Skylar Daemon lives outside of those boxes. He soars, always. I have a secret identity, not for me to turn and hide behind, but to stand up and face any pain; face any adversary that may stand in my way. I have a secret identity. His name is Skylar Daemon. Shhh. DO YOU HAVE ONE?
