the young skywalker is perceptive, he gives him that, but not perceptive enough to pick up on the traces of darkness that emanate from the sith, presence subdued. there’s the lack of vigilance, too. it’s clear to him already that he requires training, but it’s nothing that can’t be fixed (not when there’s so much potential within). it’s not a surprise that he doesn’t UNDERSTAND now, still so shielded from the galaxy and held from his purpose, wasting away on this farm he calls a home; the mundanity of the setting doesn’t befit him. the old couple he sees frequent the exterior of the complex must be his guardians, he realizes, the ones anchoring him to this place.
luke. the name he provides settles in his mind, a barely observable SMILE curling upwards on his lips. he would remember that. the handshake comes firmly from maul’s side. “to hunt. the remoteness of the landscape serves me well,” he says with a nod, “the rocks serve as navigators, every structure a landmark – my journey here has been fraught with danger, but now i remain.”
❛ To hunt, huh? ❜ Luke shields his eyes from the twin suns, squinting at Maul to get a good luck at him. He didn’t look like a hunter. He’d heard tales of some hermit who had gone into the desert and slain a kryat dragon, but Maul didn’t seem like the hero from a child’s fairytale. Searching his mind, he found a name for the stranger’s species: Zybrak. The red tone of his skin matches well with the Tatooine sands; it reminded Luke of the setting suns.
❛ You’re staying on the Great Chott? ❜ he thought that there would be slim-pickings out this far for a nomad. While the stranger was thin, however, he did not look starved. Luke turns his attention back to the speeder, rubbing some dirt from the windshield with the elbow of his tunic. Maybe the Zabrak intended to claim his own homestead out on the sand flat. ❛ Where’d you journey from? I don’t mean to sound rude, but you don’t sound like you’re from ‘round here. ❜
