alice had been standing outside the Whyte Wyrm. she was debating with her inner moral as to whether or not she should go in. hal was busy tonight and she had nothing else to do. all of her summer assignments were already turned in. she shouldn’t have even gone to the stupid bar. it was full of stupid people and stupid memories. her hand was on the door handle when all of a sudden, it wasn’t.
everything was different. where was she? why was she here? this was NOT the inside of the bar that she had come to know and love. it was a town. that was unmistakable but what town? it wasn’t riverdale, that much she was positive of.
she moved to stand up, her legs shaking a little, the world moving around her. when she looked up after steadying herself, she found a strange woman pointing a gun at her. god, she hated guns.
“woah, you know you can put that down, right? i’m kind of unarmed and not a threat.”
it took natasha a few beats before she could process what was going on – the girl standing in front of her, their surroundings, the lack of THANOS. no more fight. no wakanda. slowly she lowered her gun, but kept her eyes trained on the stranger in front of her. she looked just as confused as natasha felt – but the spy figured that might have been a result of being held at gunpoint.
natasha pressed her lips together, kept her gun in her hand. this could all be THANOS’ doing. all of those years in the red room, all of that suffering would have been for nothing if the black widow let down her guard now, just because the girl asked her to.
breathe in. breathe out.
natasha wiped any trace of fear or confusion that she might have felt from her face, wearing instead the look of a woman confident in her reserve and curious more than lost. “what does the name THANOS mean to you?” she asked, green eyes only daring to study the area only around the girl. focused. a follower wouldn’t have been able to resist the chance to gloat about their overlord’s victory.
