HIIII, i have one question. Who fell in love first, Rin or Maus?
Oooh... Im gonna say Maus. But Rin fell harder when she did eventually fall.
It started more as infatuation than love i think, Maus was fascinated by Rin's past and violent tendancies, and also how she seemed to *not* act on them where her documents suggested she would do otherwise. That, and the fact that she seemed absolutely petrified by Kolibris. She wanted to know why, but she wanted Rin to tell her the reason herself rather than digging through her head to find it.
(both because she didnt want to further her apparent kolibri-phobia, and because she didnt want to risk melting Rin's brain on accident without meaning to..)
Then i guess she grew more and more affectionate of Rin as time went on. Infatuation turned to genuine curiosity turned to actually gaining feelings toward the Storch once she learned how similar they are to eachother; both Replikas who had been shunned and outcast by the others around them for things outside or their control.
Rin was, given her trauma of course and Maus' strange nature especially, Very much hesitant at letting Maus get closer to her both in the emotional sense and literal sense. It took... actual months, but finally Rin grew to trust Maus enough to let her in so to speak. And oh man, once she got a taste at what actual affection and care was like, she was immediately hooked. She still had her reservations about being so close and involved with a Kolibri of course, but she was a bit more willing to push past her fears (with Maus' help) now that she knew Maus was not, in fact, solely out to kill her in the most convoluted way possible.
Which of course makes how their story ends all the kore heartbreaking... Rin finally found something, someone that made her feel like she could breathe without a weight on her chest, only to be told to kill her so she can be replaced. Orders are orders after all, and she is a Protektor first and a lover second...
