There were times Lizzie had come home to see Ingrid either covered in fake blood or looking like a creature straight out of a horror movie. It was becoming more and more casual with each passing day. Though most of her props and creations lived in her studio a few blocks away, there have been one too many interesting pieces of her popping up in their place. The girl was internally grateful for Lizzie not kicking her out already. Ingrid stepped back and looked at her roommate with a proud smile on her lips. It looked pretty damn good, if she said so herself. “That’s the goal, Liz. That’s always the goal,” she joked thinking about scaring the public. She playfully waved her fake blood-stained hand at Lizzie and smiled. “That’s nothin’… Wanna know something crazy?” It was something she often didn’t share, but she felt it would entertain Lizzie for a moment. “There was this show on the Syfy channel called Face Off. It was a special effects makeup competition… Anyways, I was on it for one of the seasons.” And of course, Ingrid simply shrugged like it was nothing.
“What? You were on TV?” Lizzie asked, her jaw dropping for a moment. Every little conversation she had with Ingrid reminded her that she hadn’t had a friend in so long. It felt good to meet someone and to get to know them in the same way she had with Ingrid. It almost felt a little nostalgic, since the last time Lizzie really got to have a friend was when she was younger and less jaded about everything. But every conversation with Ingrid felt natural-- she didn’t find herself avoiding her like she thought she would whenever she found out she would need a roommate in order to afford rent. “That’s amazing,” she said. “Don’t be so humble! I’ve never seen it, but now we gotta binge watch your season.” She smiled. “Oh, here. My brother Julian loves anything on Syfy so I gotta tell him. Let’s take a selfie.” She pulled out her phone and turned on the camera, leaning into Ingrid. “Say cheese!”

Oh, she actually answered him. He was impressed, but also momentarily concerned that she didn’t remember him. He put that thought to rest quickly and flashed her a charming smile, nodding his head as she told him all about the plant life in the exhibit.
“Hmm,” he nodded some more, “Good to know. I had to come all this way over here just to find that out. It was driving me crazy.”
And with a turn, he began to walk away from her, but only for a moment. He swiveled back and faced her with a growing smirk. Taking careful steps back to her, he suddenly realized he had no clue why he was here or what he could say to the girl. It was moments like this where his spontaneity bit him in the ass.
“Hi,” he started simply and chuckled. “You just made me realize the other night I haven’t been to a zoo since I was a kid. Thought I might pay it a visit… Wanna show me around whenever you’re free?”
Gwen furrowed her brows as she watched Luke walk away, her lips parting momentarily to croak out some vowels in confusion. But then when he pivoted and faced her again, with yet another charming ‘hello,’ she couldn’t help but laugh to herself and nod. He got her that time.
“Hi,” she said, smiling softly at him. “Actually, I’m... pretty busy,” she narrowed her eyes at her clipboard, pulling out the pen and chewing on it before making long underlines through some sentences. “Yeah, it-- it looks like I’m going to be busy for the next few weeks. Wow.”
There was a pause before she flashed him a grin and snickered. “Gotcha. I should be free right now. Have you ever been to this one?”
AFFORDABLE COMMISSIONS ARE OPEN! *:・゚✧*
My previous blog was @dokicommissions. I started that blog about a year ago when I realized I was going to have a hard time transferring from my community college at home to a university about seven hours away. To keep it simple, I am offering commissions as a way to make a extra money on the side. I do not have a car here and rely on my significant other to drive me to work on the weekends (where I work little hours/get little pay). On top of that, any money that I had saved beforehand in order to be somewhat ~comfortable~ away from home has been totally wiped out by unexpected tuition bills and fees. By the time I finish paying my bill at the end of the semester, I will be totally wiped out.
If you’re not interested in commissioning me, I will be offering free goodies throughout the course of my time here! Or you can donate kindly to my Ko-Fi or ask for my PayPal information. Thank you <3

To disregard Audrey Abbott as emotionless was to think a wolf was a monster for hunting its prey. No, she was instinctive and methodical. The brunette had long learned what truly mattered to her; a life lived with purpose through good deeds and meaningful action. She chased a career in politics, landing her in congress – the youngest ever! But what had it cost? Gwen was a rarity in Audrey’s circles. She didn’t cling to her to advance her own agenda, or critiqued her political stance as an absence for maternal instinct. No, she just loved her… And Audrey just let her go. Never the less, she walked through the party toting a victorious grin. Since her landslide win, she’s made a point to show up to local parties. She still is, after all, a young woman. Best her brand reflected that. But amidst the handshakes and squeals, she spots an unmistakable shade of blonde. For a moment, she considers turning away entirely. But her better judgement she knew she’d regret it. And so, she walks forward. “Gwen.”
Gwen was more than ready to go as soon as she felt the pool water warm up to her skin. What the hell was she doing? This was against every empowering 80s break-up ballad that she sang like an anthem as a teenage girl, doing everything save making a blood pact with Pat Benatar that she wouldn’t dwell on her exes. But Audrey was the first person she’d ever felt like this about, let alone the first woman that made her realize a deeper part of her identity that had yet been discovered. She stood, putting her shoes back on, then gasping whenever she looked up and heard her name. “Oh,” she said, meeting Audrey’s gaze. “I didn’t see you there-- you spooked me. I was just... getting out of the pool.”

She grew to be an avid fan of his, sending off her farewells to the crowd who waved her a fanciful goodbye when she was whisked away. Had it not been for him then she would suffer another loss of a brain cell. That or she’d come to detest fashion when it was repetitive conversation again and again even if her own life revolved around it. Sometimes leisure from work truly meant it’s words. Sorina squeezed at his arm. “Have you been practising that in front of the mirror, or are you naturally used to flirting?” She couldn’t help but tease the male when sounded nothing short of flattery. She chose a flute of champagne before opting for red wine instead. “You know how these parties tend to lead,” she tutted. “I can stand on my feet for so long before someone else comes harping to me about some hope to collab. I ought to bring a date, or pay for a group of friends to keep me sane throughout. It’s all unnecessary now. I’ll just steal you away from your mother. I’ll make sure to send her a thank you card for bringing you,” she said in a teasing manner as she cheered with him with their glasses.
“I think I came out of the womb flirting,” Joey responded, snickering. “The doctors were really shocked. There was a whole documentary made about me and everything.” Of course now the boy felt a little more lax talking to Sorina. They both seemed to see past through all the bullshit that came with the fashion industry-- or hell, any industry for that matter, as he had had his own fair share of mind-numbing conversations about architecture in his time. But none of that really mattered anymore. They found each other and now they were most likely going to stick together for the rest of the night. He felt connected to Sorina in some strange way. “I think she’ll barely notice I’m gone. Either that or she might praise me for talking to you and bug me about us dating,” he said, chuckling. A beat. “I guess I prefer that over you bringing a date, though.”
kldjflkafla good morning guys, sorry it’s been so long. i’ve been stressed studying over a test this week but i should be back to regular programming over the weekend. thanks for being patient!!
I guess I went a little crazy, huh? No, you’ve always been crazy. This is just the first chance you’ve ever had to really express yourself.

“Stay still,” Ingrid hissed under her breath as her roommate squirmed under her fingertips. Applying latex to the girl’s skin, she watched as her vision came to life, Lizzie’s face being her canvas. Dabbing on fake blood to the wounds she created, she smiled to herself as it began to come together. “This looks sick,” she commented and took a step back to see the graphic head wound she gave her. It was truly amazing what brought the girl joy - gore, monsters, and all the gross fascinations she could create with makeup. “You know, you should be happy I didn’t force you into doing the alien look I have in mind. That would have taken at least a few hours…” Handing a mirror to her, she rose her eyebrows curious. “How does it look?”
Lizzie hated, hated having her face touched, mostly because it tickled, but also because she had always been insecure about her features. She felt the same way about manicures, knowing that whoever was doing her nails was probably talking shit about her nasty nail beds in their heads. So, she squirmed as Ingrid applied some makeup on her. She was getting used to her roommate’s touch, though she still couldn’t hold back giggles every so often. “Okay, okay, just hurry!” she egged on, looking over at Ingrid with a smile. Admittedly, whenever she found out Ingrid was into gorey makeup, it shocked her. It wasn’t every day your roommate came in looking like they just got beat up half to death and are just like “oh, hey, what’s up.” But now, Lizzie loved it. “Yeah, yeah, just show me,” she said, retrieving the mirror from her. When she caught sight of herself, she gasped, then laughed, always pleasantly surprised by her friend’s talent. “This looks sick! Yo, you think if I go outside right now I can make a little girl cry? You’re so talented.”

Three days. Three whole days past since he last saw Gwen and that picturesque night they had with one another. He didn’t know why she lingered in his mind, but it was impossible to shake. No amount of cheap or expensive booze could drown it out, which was often his method for unwanted thoughts. So, he felt like a fool wandering the city’s Zoo, dodging children and lingering families. Have you seen Gwen? He’d ask random employees which led him nowhere. He didn’t even know her last name for christsake.
Frustrated, he took a seat on a bench and stared forward through his sunglasses, wondering why the hell he was there. But then the hint of golden hair caught the corner of his eye, and there she was. So, she’s real. That made him feel a bit better about it all. He pushed himself off the bench and walked over to her, a smirk growing.
“Excuse me, ma’am… I was wondering if you could please tell me what kind of flowers are planted over by the Elephant exhibit. I’m just dying to know.”
The week began as it normally did for Gwen. As much as she liked her weekends off, there was nothing more refreshing than the feeling of a brand new week at the zoo. It fared even better in trying to forget the once-in-a-lifetime adventure she’d had with Luke that night.
After the day’s lunch, Gwen had already gone through and inspected her assigned exhibits. What she would busy herself with for the rest of the day was maintenance-- planting flowers, harvesting fruit from the trees, trimming shrubs. It was a hard day’s work, but it was what she loved to do. She liked to believe that if you put love out into the world-- like taking care of plants-- that the world would do the same and give love back to you.
She was crouched down and knicking off thorns from some bushes whenever she heard a voice behind her. Of course, on her off time, she’d sometimes get swept away teaching visitors about the plants, since the whole experience was educational too, after all. “So,” she said, standing up and turning around. When she saw it was Luke, she couldn’t help but laugh, but she answered his question. “We like to surround each animal with whatever habitat they’re most familiar with and would thrive best in. Elephants are herbivores-- they actually love eating the bark off our trees the most-- but, for good measure, if they ever want a snack, we plant those bright yellow wild hibiscus.” She actually pointed over to a bush of them across the way-- you could see them bright like the sun despite the exhibit being a ways away.

He knew better than most that all good things had to come to an end. Would he try to take her home? Would he ask to make plans with her in the future? Though all seemed very enticing, he knew that perhaps it was for the best to simply let this night be exactly what it was - a small but exciting adventure with a stranger. Perhaps he knew deep down that this girl was different. She reminded him of someone he knew once before. He looked at her and smiled fondly. “Sure,” he told her, figuring he’d do that much. Downing the rest of his drink, he nodded towards the exit and took her hand to lead her out into the city’s streets. His hand slipped out of hers and he stepped near the curb to hail a cab for her. Though most of the passing taxis paid no mind to him, he suddenly whistled loudly with his fingers. As a cab made a beeline towards them, he stepped back on the sidewalk and smiled at Gwen. “I had fun tonight,” he told her and licked his lips in thought. “Good luck with, ya know… Everything. The zoo. Tell some animals and plants hi for me,” he joked.
Back to reality. It hit her as hard as the cars drove by puddles in potholes after the day’s short rain earlier. Thinking back at it all, it was so strange how this had happened in one day-- but in the best way. She looked over at Luke for one last time before a taxi pulled up. Part of her wanted him to ask her for her number-- something, anything to maybe see each other again. Part of her wanted to be the one to do it. And yet, neither apparitions came true. “Yeah, and... tell your books I said hi,” she chuckled. “If you ever want, stop by the zoo sometime. Thanks, again.” She smiled softly and opened the back door to the taxi, looking over her shoulder at Luke one last time before getting in. Once seated, she said, “I’ll be seeing you.” With that, she shut the door and was driven away. Night sealed.
