When I'm done listening to mansplaining
2001: A CHILD’S ODYSSEY – Howard Johnson’s, the once-dominant chain of family-friendly restaurants and hotels, made a cameo in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. Along with appearing in the 1968 film, the restaurant operator produced a comic book that tried to explain the (in)famously cryptic sci-fi plot. Naturally, they gave it an awesome title: “Debbie and Robin Go to a Movie Premiere With the Parents.”

I realized by accident that there are a lot of Tim Curry gifs that perfectly express my feelings today.
Every fall and winter I make a very gradual descent into SAD. Even though I increase my effort to be aware of it each year, it comes on so slow that I don't even understand how low I've sunk until the sun comes back again and I remember what normal feels like. I've been like this for years and years, but somehow the change is so sudden that each spring I find myself overwhelmed. I felt the change so quickly and intensely this year that, out of curiosity, I went back to remember a song I wrote about my seasonal depression named "Seeds" (in reference to the seeds that Hades tricks Persephone into eating in the Underworld). Unfortunately, the full lyrics were swallowed by the void, but the metaphor is still extremely meaningful to me. "Misery loves company We suffer with Persephone" Every year I suffer with Persephone and every spring I rejoice with Demeter at her return.
Both sides of the valentine I made for my boyfriend this year.
