Losing my shit researching Kaveh and Alhaitham's constellations. What do you mean Kaveh's constellation is the bird of paradise, which Europeans wrongfully believed to spend their entire lives soaring high in the sky, when in reality the locals who hunted them had cut their wings and legs off before selling it to them? What do you mean birds of paradise parallell the mythical Iranian homa bird, a phoenix-like creature also believed to spend its whole life soaring the skies, never coming down to Earth until they burn themselves to cinder and rise anew? What do you mean the homa bird is thought to bring eternal happiness to anyone who is lucky enough to catch even a glimpse of it?

And what do you MEAN the bird most commonly considered the real-life stand-in for the homa bird is the bearded vulture, when Alhaitham's constellation is the fucking Vultur Volans?

What do you mean Vultur Volans is one half of the two constellations that would later be assimilated into Aquila, the other being Antinous, named by emperor Hadrian after his male lover Antinous who he believed died as a human sacrifice? What do you mean naming the constellation that was a way to elevate Antinous to the status of a god, an idol who would be worshipped in the night sky for ages to come, but never again be in Hadrian's arms?
