The backstory is they were one of the primordial heroes and while the beasts were raging chaos they were almost corrupted they were brought back by pleas from the cookies for safety and the witches for help. The witches needed them to gather the beasts and distract them until the witches could trap them. So they gathered the beasts for one last talk and to plead that they change their ways it escalated to a fight where they lost their wings but before they were crumbled the witches sealed the beasts. The witches seeing them close to crumbling they healed them but they weren't able to fix their wings so they used the wings to make a new race of cookies (the faeries). After the beasts got sealed they went into self isolation from the grief of losing so much but came out of hiding due to new soul jam holders under the disguise of Salted Butter Cookie. When Dark Enchantress Cookie showed up and started to destroy stuff they tried to get the ancients to back down and let them fight alone. The ancients not wanting to back down and SB's stubbornness they left but when they got back everything was gone and so were the ancients saddened with guilt of thinking that they could have done something they hid themselves away again under the disguise of Choco Butter Cookie when they met the brave gang and the rest is history.
